1-0 out of 5 stars Useless
This book was so generalized, it was of no value. The book is small, but none of the information was worth reading. If someone has even heard of insulin resistance, they know as much as they would get reading this book. Very disappointing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Wonderful book on insulin resistants for beginners.Well written, and easy to understand.Buy this book if you have pre-diabetes, or diabetes.Very helpful!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book!
A great book about insulin resistance, what causes it and who has it.It's super easy to read and understand - no big medical jargon to deal with.I've bought several copies for friends and family.Everyone has enjoyed it and has gained insight as to what is attributable to their weight gain and how being insulin resistant is at least, partly responsible. Not only does it explain what insulin resistant is but explains what you can do to correct the situation and avoid the inevitable, destructive path ahead of you - a burned out pancreas and a life of diabetes - if you don't make changes in your life. Great book!I applaud the author!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great synopsis
I bought this for a friend who needed the information but was unlikely to read anything overly detailed. This is just what she needed to get the information. ... Read more

Product Description
Insulin resistance (IR) is the condition in which normal amounts of insulin are inadequate to produce a normal insulin response from fat, muscle and liver cells. Insulin resistance in fat cells reduces the effects of insulin and results in elevated hydrolysis of stored triglycerides in the absence of measures which either increase insulin sensitivity or which provide additional insulin. Increased mobilization of stored lipids in these cells elevates freefatty acids in the blood plasma. Insulin resistance in muscle cells reduces glucose uptake (and so local storage of glucose as glycogen), whereas insulin resistance in liver cells results in impaired glycogen synthesis and a failure to suppress glucose production. Elevated blood fatty-acid concentrations (associated with insulin resistance and diabetes mellitus Type 2), reduced muscle glucose uptake, and increased liver glucose production all contribute to elevated blood glucose concentration. High plasma levels of insulin and glucose due to insulin resistance are believed to be the origin of metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes, including its complications. ... Read more

Product Description
IgA glomerulonephritis (IgAGN) is one of the most common forms of primary glomerulonephritisworldwide, accounting for 25?50 % of all patients with primary glomerulopathy. The hallmarkfor diagnosis is the deposition of immunoglobulin A(IgA) in the glomerular mesangium, leading tohistological damage of various degrees. A broadspectrum of clinical presentation and variableprognosis is typical for the disease and approximately 25?30 % of patients eventually developend-stage renaldisease (ESRD).After the descriptionof the disease in the late 1960s a considerable body of information has accumulated especially on theprognostic features and etiology of IgAGN. The purpose of the present series was to furtherinvestigate the prognostic role of insulinresistance, inflammatory markers and alcoholconsumption and to gather data on the use of thebiomarkers available in evaluating alcohol consumption in patients with IgAGN. ... Product Description
Diabetes mellitus is one of the most prevalentmetabolic disorders in the world, and in fact inmany regions in the world it is actually the mostcommon metabolic disorder. The role of Insulinresistance (IR) in cardiovascular diseases isunclear and deserves further investigation. Themainobjective of this study was to explore whetherthereis an association between IR and left ventriculardiastolic dysfunction in patients with impairedglucose tolerance (IGT) and type 2 diabetesmellitus. We found significant differences among the patientsin groups with normal glucose tolerance (NGT), IGTand diabetes regarding HOMA-IR and QUICKI (P<0.001for both). The pulsed Doppler transmitral variableswere significantly different between groups: E wave(P<0.001), A-wave (P=0.006) and E/A ratio(P<0.001).The E/A ratio correlated with HOMA-IR and QUICKI(P<0.001, for both). Multiple linear regressionmodel showed that IR (assessed by QUICKI) was anindependent correlate of diastolic dysfunction(P=0.034). In conclusion, in subjects with IGT and patientswith type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance isassociated with impaired diastolic function of theleft ventricle. ... Read more
