5-0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile--Suggest Buying Used
This book will probably be helpful to anyone dealing with renal cancer.More recent is the Kidney Cancer Association's free publication, We Have Kidney Cancer, that may be read as an e-publication online.Given that there are several copies of 101 Questions available used for less than $2, I would recommend this as a reasonable ordering choice.I have worked with all the authors and their knowledge is solid.Their book may be a bit dated, as therapeutic advances are being made rapidly in this disease.

5-0 out of 5 stars 100 Questions & Answers About KidneyCancer
I found out I had kidney cancer and this book answered everything I could possible think of and more.

5-0 out of 5 stars A "Must Read" if You or a Loved-One Has Been Diagnosed
This book is written and organized well for kidney cancer patients to read and understand as a reference tool during their cancer experience. It is not over-simplified, nor does it assume prior knowledge.Skip researching the www for the latest medical information on kidney cancer -- it's all in this book!I received this book about 3 weeks after being diagnosed with kidney cancer and wish I would have had it even sooner.I was the second person in my family to be diagnosed with kidney cancer and, although, I thought I knew what I needed to know from our family's first experience, this book provided me much more information based upon current research and practices.Kidney cancer can be a "death sentence," but it is also a very curable cancer when found early and many people don't know that good news.Thank you to the doctors who wrote this book.It was comforting to have such a good resource at my fingertips during my experience with kidney cancer.I'm blessed to have a happy ending to my kidney cancer experience and in a very real way, this book spared me unnecessary fear and stress during my diagnosis and treatment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource
This is an excellent book on Kidney Cancer and provides complete information and treatment options available. It is explained in an easy to read format and is a book that I continue to use as a reference book.

2-0 out of 5 stars 100 Questions about Kidney Cancer
Instead of receiving 100 Questions about Kidney Cancer, we received 100 Questions about Liver Cancer. The order was lost in our system for 3 weeks (not the fault of the sellers),However, we were going to order 100 Questions about Liver Cancer anyway and I have ordered more Kidney Cancer books from Amazon. It was just disapointing to find we had received the Liver Cancer books instead of Kidney Cancer books. ... Product Description

This is one of the first books to deal specifically with diagnostic imaging of the entire spectrum of kidney cancers. Both new and conventional imaging modalities are fully considered. After an introductory chapter on the histopathological classification of kidney cancers, the advantages and disadvantages of the various imaging modalities used in the diagnosis and assessment of disease extension are documented. Subsequent chapters offer an exhaustive description of the radiological features of the different histological subtypes of kidney cancer, with radiological and histological illustrations and tables. The latest innovations in interventional and minimally invasive procedures are also well covered. The book benefits from carefully chosen and technically excellent images. Each of the 24 chapters is written by an internationally acclaimed expert, making this book the most current and complete treatment of the subject available. It should be of great interest to radiologists, oncologists, and urologists.

Product Description
The last two decades have seen ground-shifting changes in the epidemiology, genetics, diagnosis and management of renal cancer. Advances in diagnosis have led to many tumours being identified at an asymptomatic stage. There have also been parallel advances in treatment, such as nephron sparing procedures and radiologically guided ablative procedures. However, these changes have brought with them dilemmas such as our ability to evaluate the nature and aggressiveness of early stage tumours and how best to identify those patients who will benefit most from early treatment. This practical, clinically-oriented volume focuses on these current diagnostic and clinical challenges, making it relevant to all members of the multidisciplinary cancer care team. ... Read more

Product Description
There is considerable evidence suggesting that chronic cigarette smoking has adverse health effects: it is the major cause of disease and death in developed countries, inducing several kinds of cancer, chronic obstructive lung disease and severe vascular pathologies. Cigarette smoking is also a risk factor for diffuse atherosclerosis, ischemic heart disease and peripheral vascular lesions, renal microvessels being another potential target. Furthermore, the relationships of chronic cigarette smoking and nitric oxide with endothelial dysfunction and vascular disease are well proven, and the association between eNOS gene polymorphisms and vascular disease and their dependence on chronic tobacco smoking has been stressed. But although there is definite evidence that the risk of progression of acquired or genetic renal disease is higher in chronic cigarette smokers and the negative effect on patient survival in chronic dialytic treatment is well known, these issues are still neglected by clinical nephrologists and the mechanisms involved have not yet been classified. It is for these reasons that the present volume has been put together: the questions addressed will be of particular interest to renal researchers working on an experimental basis as well as for oncologists and toxicologists. ... Product Description

The main purpose of this book is to produce a fully comprehensive textbook of the whole subject of kidney cancer, providing theoretical and practical knowledge for both the basic researcher and also the clinical practitioner. In this way, the hope is to produce the definitive text in the field, wherein the theoretical basis of molecular, genetic, and patho-physiologic aspects will precede the practical aspects of surgical and medical-oncologic therapy. Unquestionably, at the time of writing, the contemporary management of kidney cancer is a hot topic in urologic oncology and it is this constantly evolving landscape which is the primary driving force underpinning the writing of this project now.

Contemporary clinical management of patients with kidney cancer requires a clear understanding of these newly-emerged issues. Urologists, medical oncologists, and general practitioners are likely to welcome a comprehensive textbook that places the state-of-the-art of this field in context, within one volume. Ultimately, the book will be along the lines of Campbellā€™s Urology, aka "the Bible of Urology," which is still relevant decades after its original publication.

Furthermore, the book will be innovatively designed and arranged, using many colour illustrations and figures to augment the text of each chapter, thus providing a less daunting and more readable work. Similarly, the intended format is such that all key points in the text will be highlighted in the left-hand column of each page, for ease of topic summary and overview. In conjunction with the range of highlighted phrases and bulleted tables accompanying every chapter, the general presentation will constantly assist the reader in quickly recognising the salient points of each specific topic at hand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes a great gift of hope to a cancer patient.
Great book for someone dealing with cancer.Lots of useful info. The author, Larry Burkett, did eventually die of his illness so this book is a little dated but still relevant. It outlines things he did to prolong his life after the initial diagnosis and treatment. He discusses treatments he tried that didn't work, and alternative treatments still worth checking into, along with diet, finances, etc.Reading the book can have a calming affect and give hope to the person struggling with this diagnosis.I have given a copy of it as a gift several times and I have always received thanks and good reviews.

5-0 out of 5 stars Living with Cancer
I read this book as a follow-up to the author's first book, "Hope When it Hurts", which I also read recently. This book was published in 2003. Larry Burkett died 7/4/2003. Mr. Burkett's feelings come through in the pages of Nothing to Fear. At times light-hearted, at times very serious, at times on a mission, this book radiates the emotions of someone going through this horrible disease. Yet, he also encourages the cancer patient to have faith and trust in God. He also suggests looking at alternative therapies, which he believed helped him to have a better quality of life. I especially liked his facetious explanation of the aliens establishing fast-food restaurants in 1947 so that when they return they will have a fattened food supply. I do recommend this book to any cancer patient as well as their close family members. If I had been in his situation I don't think I would've gone to all the expense of therapy and would be more inclined to modify my diet more than he was willing to do, but that's just me. I say this not as a cancer patient, but as someone who has gone through extreme dietary changes in order to remedy other life-threatening diseases. In addition to this book I highly recommend the book entitled, The China Study, as well as Eat to Live, and Eat for Health by Dr. Joel Fuhrman [...]. I was very blessed by this book and am very glad to have spent the time reading both his books. They will by one of my first recommendations to any cancer patient I cross paths with. Thank you Burkett family for publishing these books. I feel I know more of who Larry was and my respect for him has grown. He was a wonderful man and I am sure he is missed by many.

5-0 out of 5 stars Here's To Inspiration!
Hello.I recently sent this book to a friend who was preparing to go into surgery to remove cancer from his colon.Needless to say he was very apprehensive about the procedure and actually felt like his time on this earth had come to its natural end.

Last night, I got the great news that the surgery went well and my friend is resting comfortably. His brother told me this book helped tremendously and gave my friend the hope and inspiration he needed as he prepared for this dreadful cancer removal procedure.

There's nothing like direct, positive feedback.God bless my friend and here's too many more years of good living!

Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Steven Allan Spielberg, (born December 18, 1946) is an American film director, screenwriter, and film producer. In a career spanning six decades, Spielberg's films have covered many themes and genres. Spielberg's early science-fiction and adventure films were seen as an archetype of modern Hollywood blockbuster filmmaking. In later years, his films began addressing such issues as the Holocaust, slavery, war and terrorism. He is considered to be one of the most influential filmmakers in the history of cinema. Spielberg won the Academy Award for Best Director for Schindler's List (1993) and Saving Private Ryan (1998). Three of Spielberg's films - Jaws (1975), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), and Jurassic Park (1993) - achieved box office records, each becoming the highest-grossing film made at the time. To date, the unadjusted gross of all Spielberg-directed films exceeds $8.5 billion worldwide. Forbes puts Spielberg's wealth at $3.0 billion. Spielberg was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to a Jewish family. His mother Leah Adler was a restaurateur and concert pianist, and father Arnold Spielberg was an electrical engineer involved in the development of computers. He spent his childhood in Haddon Heights, New Jersey and Scottsdale, Arizona; an upscale city in the Phoenix metroplex. Throughout his early teens, Spielberg made amateur 8 mm "adventure" films with his friends, the first of which he shot at the Pinnacle Peak Patio restaurant in Scottsdale. He charged admission (25 cents) to his home films (which involved the wrecks he staged with his Lionel train set) while his sister sold popcorn. In 1958, he became a Boy Scout and fulfilled a ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=26940 ... Read more
