5-0 out of 5 stars Help yourself reduce incidents of kidney stones
If you've ever had a kidney stone, let alone multiple ones, you have probably gotten to the place you'll do anything to reduce the chances of forming more. This book by members of the medical community is very reader-friendly yet very informational. The best thing you can do for yourself is educate yourself on things in the diet which effect the formation of stones, and the importance of drinking vast quantities of water. That may be a pain, but not as painful as a kidney stone!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best kidney stone book I have read.
"No More Kidney Stones" was the best kidney stone book I have read in regard to prevention.
The important prevention ideas include:
1) to drink water late in the day.
2) to eat early and quit eating early, if possible.
3) a list of common medications for prevention.
4) a list of high oxalate foods (some oxalate lists are contradictory on the internet.)
I'm grateful for the book....Robert

5-0 out of 5 stars An Explanation of Facts
After two painful kidney stone attacks, I was definitely searching for answerers-and this book is filled with information. First, a detailed explanation of the urinary system is given, and you see how the kidneys play the main role in balancing the chemistry of your body. Next, the reader learns how kidney stones are formed, what they are made of, and how to avoid the foods that cause kidney stones.

A typical kidney stone attack is shown and explained. You see typical symptoms (been there-done that), as well as the many treatments available.

The reader is then offered suggestions about how to prevent a future attack. You learn what food to eat, the amount of water needed per day, and about healthy portions. PLUS, you will read about why it is so important to drink all that water.

My book isDreams in August: Life, Love, and Cerebellar Ataxia

5-0 out of 5 stars ...from one who knows...
For any stone former this book should be thoroughly read, highlighted, and PERIODICALLY REVIEWED LIKE A TEXT BOOK to refresh ones memory!!! Dr. Rodman has many excellent suggestions for prevention of all types of stones. If you are a Calcium-oxalate former like I am, may I also recommend the Low Oxalate Cookbook Two as a companion book. It contains more recent research and data which supplements and reinforces these data presented by Dr. Rodman. If you make the life changes suggested by Dr. Rodman and DRINK YOUR WATER you will have a much better chance at a stone free life. I forgot to review, I got lax about my fluids, I now have one kidney!!

5-0 out of 5 stars No More Kidney Stones

Reading this book has given me so much useful knowledge and I highly recommend anyone with Kidney Stones to read it, especially as we all know the pain associated when one has a Kidney Stone is excruciating, and unforgettable

But reading this book was painless!

5-0 out of 5 stars must read for those in pain
this book is excellently written. It help my family get through a very difficult and painful time. since we read this book there are no more stones. there is no book out there like this plus i recommend their web site.

4-0 out of 5 stars Vital guide for kidney stone sufferers
I have suffered through three kidney stones myself, with the most recent by far the worst. My therapy since then has been simple but (so far) effective: whenever I feel the least bit thirsty, I fill up a jumbo plastic 32 ounce cup (acquired from a local fast-food restaurant) with water and down the entire contents over the next half-hour or so. I may spend the rest of the day in the bathroom, but I haven't gotten a kidney stone since.

For those who want more information about possible therapies (and causes) of kidney stones, there is this book, which provides an excellent overview of the numerous types of stones, what causes them, and what can be done about them. There is strong encouragement to confront one's doctor to make greater efforts to diagnose causes along with information on just what these efforts should be. One key chapter covers what one should or should not eat, which is again divided according to types of stone. My only quibble is that an occasional looseness in terminology causes confusion: generally a stone is referred by type, which can include calcium or oxalate. However, at a couple of points, there is a reference to a calcium oxalate type. I have no idea how that fits in with the other types.

But that's a very minor point. Overall this is an excellent book and absolute must reading for anyone with serious kidney stone problems (i.e., who has gotten more than me!).

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is not a must-read - it's a MUST-HAVE
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It is co-authored by a kidney stone sufferer.Gail Savitz knows what she is writing about. The other author is a urologist that is able to put the kidney stone nightmare into laymans terms. This isn't a book that you struggle to read; it is easily understandable and is written in "real" English, rather than Doctor Speak. The book explains what a stone is, the 5 most common chemical risk factors, common questions/answers, and many other things. Most importantly, it tells you steps to take to prevent another stone.Anyone who has suffered through this horror will appreciate knowing how to keep it from happening again. It is also an excellent book for the friends and family of stone sufferers. These people must learn what you are going through. This book gave me the information that my own doctor failed to give me.I recommend it highly!

5-0 out of 5 stars Written by someone who knows what you're worried about.
The author is especially sensitive to the first time stone sufferer.Having gone through may of the treatments for stones herself, she describes what you might go through when you are facing treatment.Very helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars GOODGLORYANNA !!!!!
Everything said by the previous reviewers is True, True, TRUE!!!Finallya book with some answers as to why kidney stones occur and moreimportantly, how to PREVENT them.Do yourself a favor...get a copy of thisbook, AND tell your doctor to get one too.Mine had never heard of it. Theinformation we received from his office was of little help, and incompleteat that. The medical community needs their patients to keep them informedjust as much [or MORESO] than just depending on the quarterly articlespublished by the AMA!My doctor said a big THANK YOU!!! ... Book Description
Do you feel wasted? -- Get It Out!

Passing a kidney stone is considered one of the most painful experiences the human body can endure.Diverticulitis causes a stabbing pain in the belly, and can lead to internal bleeding, infection and death.Prostate enlargement can torment a man day and night, just as menopausal hot flashes, sweats and imbalances can destroy a woman's quality of life.Cervical dysplasia and yeast infections plague young women, who must now also fear cervical cancer. And the medical industry says they don't know the cause of any of these conditions, but they can schedule you for regular check-ups, sell you drugs, and perform surgery when needed.Millions of people suffer from one or more of these problems.

Get It Out! explores this wasteland of disease, explaining in clear, concise language how the body works, and how our private lifestyles can get in the way of its proper functioning.Singer and Grismaijer, the husband-and-wife medical anthropologist team internationally acclaimed for their revolutionary book, Dressed To Kill: The Link Between Breast Cancer and Bras (Avery, NY 1995), hold nothing back in this insightful, entertaining, and unique book that explains how our cultural taboos and secrets can be our downfall.

Get It Out! is your answer to feeling rejuvenated, refreshed, and revitalized. At last, you can prevent and cure the diseases that plague our culture. You need never feel wasted again. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Wacky...good bathroom reading
The concepts set forth in this book are a bit too farfetched to be believed, but they are thought-provoking to say the least.I agree with the general premise that many disorders may originate from insufficient elimintarion. However, the writers take the point too far.The letters at the end make for a good laugh.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just Eliminate it you will feel better
Although the writing style of this book is significantly different from their book Dress to kill, I thought that some parts of the book provided some interesting concepts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get It Out!
This is a very down to earth easy to understand book.I enjoyed reading it because it takes a revolutionary look at health problems. The book is quite frank to the point of great humor in some parts.

My only reservation was that it was a bit short in content...I would have liked to read more in one volume. ... Read more
