Book Description
This book has been created for patients who have decided to make education and research an integral part of the treatment process. Although it also gives information useful to doctors, caregivers and other health professionals, it tells patients where and how to look for information covering virtually all topics related to pubic lice (also Crabs; Lice - pubic; Pediculosis - pubic lice), from the essentials to the most advanced areas of research. The title of this book includes the word official. This reflects the fact that the sourcebook draws from public, academic, government, and peer-reviewed research. Selected readings from various agencies are reproduced to give you some of the latest official information available to date on pubic lice. Given patients' increasing sophistication in using the Internet, abundant references to reliable Internet-based resources are provided throughout this sourcebook. Where possible, guidance is provided on how to obtain free-of-charge, primary research results as well as more detailed information via the Internet. E-book and electronic versions of this sourcebook are fully interactive with each of the Internet sites mentioned (clicking on a hyperlink automatically opens your browser to the site indicated). Hard-copy users of this sourcebook can type cited Web addresses directly into their browsers to obtain access to the corresponding sites. In addition to extensive references accessible via the Internet, chapters include glossaries of technical or uncommon terms.Download Description

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll be itching to buy this book!
A brilliantly poignant, and, at times devastatingly moving account of one man's struggle with that most irritating of STDs, pubic lice, this book shows that there's no reason to be ashamed if you've a dose of crabs, and that, with the right treatment, you'll be able to leave your house and start talking to potential partners about sex after a couple of years or so. There really, really isn't anything wrong with having crabs. Nothing wrong at all. Really. Nothing. Crabs are great. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Book Description
The desire to write this book came from firsthand experience. Tracy is the mother of five young children, three sons and two daughters. When the children were all very small, they quite often came home with head lice. For years, it was literally a losing battle for the family to rid their home of the pest. The financial burden and emotional turmoil were almost too much to bear at times. Through God's intervention, Tracy discovered the secrets to ridding a home for good of this dreaded childhood disease. This was no secret that Tracy could keep to herself, so she began writing about her experiences with head lice. The secrets in this book have kept the Carroll home head lice free for years now, and hopefully this knowledge will help you too. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Book Description

Many different kinds of animals have adopted a parasitic life style on the skin and gills of marine and freshwater fishes, including protozoans, flatworms, leeches, a range of crustaceans and even some vertebrates (lampreys). There is a parasitic barnacle, described first in the 19th century by Charles Darwin, fish lice that change sex and bivalve molluscs parasitic only when young. This book explores for the first time in one volume, the remarkable biology of these little known and frequently bizarre animals.

The following closely interwoven themes are considered for each group of parasites: how they find their hosts, how they attach, feed and reproduce, the damage they inflict and how the hosts immune system retaliates. Based on the British fauna, but extending where appropriate to examples from North America, Australia and elsewhere, the book is essential reading, not just for the professional parasitologist, but also for anyone interested in fishes and in this neglected field of British natural history.

With the enquiring naturalist in mind, terms and concepts are explained as they arise, backed up by a glossary, and the text is liberally illustrated. An introductory chapter on fish biology sets the scene and common fish names are used throughout, as well as scientific names.
