Product Description
This new book is devoted to leading-edge research developments in lupus which is a condition of chronic inflammation caused by an autoimmune disease. Autoimmune diseases are illnesses that occur when the body's tissues are attacked by its own immune system. The immune system is a complex system within the body that is designed to fight infectious agents, for example, bacteria, and other foreign invaders. One of the mechanisms that the immune system uses to fight infections is the production of antibodies. Patients with lupus produce abnormal antibodies in their blood that target tissues within their own body rather than foreign infectious agents. Because the antibodies and accompanying cells of inflammation can involve tissues anywhere in the body, lupus has the potential to affect a variety of areas of the body.Sometimes lupus can cause disease of the skin, heart, lungs, kidneys, joints, and/or nervous system. When only the skin is involved, the condition is called discoid lupus. When internal organs are involved, the condition is called systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). ... Read more

Product Description
Donna Hamil Talman is a psychotherapist with an interest in the mind/body connection that predated her diagnosis with lupus erythematosus, an auto-immune disease which affects many more women than men. Her desire to find a greater meaning in her illness and recovery, and to discover why she developed an auto-immune disease (in which the body reacts against its own tissue), led her to examine the ways in which unresolved and unexamined feelings could influence her health. This is an inspiring book for anyone confronting illness, with special meaning for those with an auto-immune disorder. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good book for newly diagnosed lupus patients
I found this book to be of little use to my own self, as I have had lupus for over thirty years. However: the author's appendix was the best part of the book to me.
For newly diagnosed lupus patients, I believe the author does have a lot to offer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heartsearch: Toward Healing Lupus
As anyone with the painful orphan disease fibromyalgia knows, finding relief is a full-time job.Learning how others have dealt with chronic diseases is one path that can lead to relief, and I want to share mypleasure in finding Donna Hamil Talman's touching, informative book,"Heartsearch: Toward Healing Lupus."Believe me, this is notjust for those unfortunate enough to have lupus. In fact, anyone who isstruggling to overcome any adversity could benefit from it.

This book isthe story of a courageous woman who faced a devastating disease andpossible death with a determined, intelligent search for healing.Sheexplored every path she could find, from meditation to diet, from massageto therapy, from acupuncture to prescribed medications, and she neverbacked down when the going got tough. She is an example for us all.

Icouldn't help but recognize (and hopefully acknowledge) myself throughoutthe well-written narrative of her personal struggle, but the part of thebook that I reread most is the appendix: Guide for a Self-HelpPrescription.This section alone would make the book worth buying.Itlays a foundation for healing that can save her readers years of researchand painful struggle.I give this book an A+. ... Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Lupu," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Lupu in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Lupu when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Lupu, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

Product Description
During the past 50 years, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) has been the main subject in the field of immunopathology. Each individual discovery was followed by the discovery of a multitude of related immune phenomena. This book reflects the present status of our understanding of this protean disease. Various animal models clearly show that different gene combinations can lead to the final clinical expression of SLE, with HLA class II genes probably responsible for the targeting of the autoimmune response. Similarly, research on cytokines in SLE patients has shown that SLE is a syndrome depending on different pathways. Finally, the question of prognosis is discussed. Fortunately, with every passing decade, the prognosis for patients with SLE gets better and better. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars God's Plan Included Lupus
God has nothing to do with Lupus. This story is about a self-centered man. Don't buy it or read it if you have a brain left.

1-0 out of 5 stars This Book Stunk
This book stunk. Their are no victims with lupus - especially in this book. There is the wife who is a survivor and then there is the husband - uneducated and self centered when it comes to lupus.

1-0 out of 5 stars Of all the books regarding lupus, I was most dissatisfied.
Very one-sided.I suffer from lupus myself and I felt very sorry for the wife.It seemed as if the husband ( the author) was the victim...he didn't realize that his wife suffered a great deal.I would not recommend thisbook to anyone, especially someone who has the disease. ... Read more
