5-0 out of 5 stars Highest recommendations!
Although I have neither of these conditions, I know people who do. This book has given me great insight for which I'm grateful. Ms. Shomon has done it again -- written a book that makes sense and educates without being dry and boring. Thank you!

5-0 out of 5 stars If You Want to Live Well
Just finished reading the book and feel very charged up. The information provided is well organized and well reasoned and it makes sense! I'm actually believing again that it is possible to live well with fibromyalgia.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Terrific and Comprehensive Book I Wish I'd Had From Day 1!
I got my copy and sat down and read every word right away (not having a fibro-fog day today!), and had to come over here right now to write this. All I can say is, "WOW!" But I really wish I had this book 4 years ago when I was first diagnosed with fibromyalgia. It only took me 3 doctors over 2 years to get diagnosed...hah...I'm one of the lucky ones I guess. I wish I had this book, because the overview of symptoms would have already helped me cut to the chase and go right to a doctor who would figure this out more quickly. As it was, I went to my primary care doctor, and an infectious disease guy, and an orthopedics doctor, and even a chiropracter, before I finally saw a holistic doctor who specialized in fibromyalgia. Even then, I was so tired, and everything hurt really bad, and the last thing in the world I could stand was the idea of having to start surfing a hundred different web sites and books trying to figure out what I should be doing. Even though I had a good doctor, he didn't have much time to explain everything.

Mary Shoman did all the homework that I would like to have done when I was so sick, but when you're flat on your back on the couch and you can barely move, it's kind of hard to do much. She talks about regular drugs, vitamins, herbs, diet, alternative things you can do, and includes a list of experts from around the country who specialize in treating fibromyalgia and CFIDS. There's a long list of web sites -- I'm going to start checking them out as soon as I finish writing this review -- and suport groups even.

I've read a few of the books on fibromyalgia and they were pretty good, but this one really made sense to me. It doesn't tell me that one particular thing will cure me, but it goes through how I can find out what's going to work best for me. And it was really good to see that I'm already doing some of the things she talks about in the book, so that tells me that my doctor and I aren't totally off base. I'm about 75% back to where I was before I got fibro, but I want to feel 100%.

I can't wait to bring it in to my doctor to talk about some more things we might be able to try that I read about! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Book That Started it All
Dr. Crook was one of the first to write about CFS,this book does have cartoons which make it easier to understand. This book changed/saved my life. My daughter & I were diagnosed in 1983(a rarity in itself back then)and told "good news is, yes there is something wrong with you. Bad news is there really isn't a standard drug or treatment. Except expensive immunoglobin therapy that your insurance won't cover since they don't really recognize CFS as an illness!" I didn't get the book until 1990 and read it from cover to cover the first night. Remember no real internet then and GNC carried vitamins and body building supplements, no St.Johns Wort, forget Acidopholous and CoQ10 sounded like a Star Wars character.THANKS TO DR. CROOK these things plus many others in the book made a complete difference in my health. Yes the other books listed are more informative, they were published later. If you can still find this one read it first. P.S. I was searching AMAZON because my 2nd copy is now so tattered and covered with notes from people I've loaned it to that it resembles a high school yearbook complete with heartfelt comments:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Information
This book had extremely helpful information for those suffering from symptoms that relate to Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The author gives practical advice and explains the cause of often misunderstood symptoms such as itching, headaches, nausea, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, etc. If you are suffering from CFS, Fibromyalgia, or allergy symptoms, I highly recommend this book. This book was far easier to read and understand than many books on the topic. It also address overconsumption of sugar as a problem, which many authors are reluctant to address.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother
I've read other Yeast Connection books and they were much better than this one. The book has an over abundance of cartoons used for illustration and instruction, so much so that they are extremely distracting and make it very difficult to read. All of the information covered in this book can be read in the Yeast Connection Handbook and others. It basically repeats other books and adds too many cartoons to fill in the pages. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book on apnea
Like my title says, this is the best book around on sleep apnea. The authors do a superb job of describing the symptons and treatment of sleep apnea. They also dispel common misconceptions about sleep apnea- like "thin and young people can't have it"-something which, most dr.s still believe. Unfortunately, most dr.s are very ignorant about sleep disorders, and often, it's the last thing they check for.

My only problem(s) with this book are: that it doesn't elaborate on Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome, a close cousin to apnea and hypopnea; and while it states that UPPP surgery can eliminate snoring w/o treating the underlying apnea, it doesn't explicity state that it's possible (albeit admittedly less common) to have apnea w/o snoring in the first place. Finally, IMO, the authors should have stressed the importance of heated humidifiers in CPAP treatment (a breathing machine, which is the most common treatment for apnea).

This sounds like a lot of "complaints" but the overall excellence of the book doesn't keep me from giving it the 5-stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book but ....
I am not a very successful CPAP user. I find this book easy for reading and technical material is converted to an interesting and well-organized book. The negative side is that it is too positive and optimistic, giving a wrong impression that CPAP is the ultimate panacea. If it can say more about the numerous and various problems that CPAP users encountered, and give more practical though not perfect advices, this book will be much better. Hope also it talks more about smart CPAP.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Recent Overview: Honest and Direct
Although my dad was a champion snorer, I never suspected that I myself had inherited a tendency toward sleep apnea. However, I've got it (moderately), and Pascualy's book has been a big help in allowing me to navigate this new medical field in which I am now an unwilling participant.

Before I went to a sleep clinic for a formal test, I read this book. It prepared me for what was to come, which was not particularly pleasant, despite disclaimers which say that the procedure is painless and non-invasive. That largely was true, but the same might be said for most enemas, and they, too, are not particularly enjoyable.

I was prescribed a CPAP (continuous positive air pressure) device, and I currently am in the midst of trying to adjust to it. To be blunt, I loathe the thing. Were I not married, I doubt that I would have the willpower to try to solve my moderate problem which, though annoying (that is, a gnawing and nearly constant fatigue), is livable. But to please her (who has endured my snoring for years), and because she does have my best interests in mind, I will persist.

The three chapters on CPAPs in this book are essential for anyone who wishes to truly solve his/her sleep apnea problem with one. There is no chapter of the support group AWAKE in my area, so Pascualy's words of encouragement and wisdom on the subject have been transformative for me. If I succeed with a CPAP, it will be because I read this book and took it to heart. Otherwise, without question, I just wouldn't bother.

I am a high-school teacher, and I have at least three colleagues who have got sleep apnea and either are undiagnosed or are in the midst of trying to troubleshoot/solve the condition. When I mentioned my dilemma to my current classes, a substantial number of students had fathers who used a CPAP. I acknowledge that this truly is a widespread problem in America and that the CPAP doubtlessly is the best solution currently available.

Read this book if you, too, are a sufferer (or the spouse of one); but be prepared for a substantial period of adjustment to the CPAP and its "magic"!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars easy reader
I found this book to be very brief and to the point. They have a lot of tips that can be incorporated into your daily life routines. The testimonials let you know that you are not alone and that just because of this diagnosis of fibromyalgia may slow you down a little, it should not stop you from living a meaningful life. It brought up to speed and provided some clarity on how to get myself back on my feet again!!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Book helped me be in control and not the disease.
I found this book extremely helpful to myself and a 17yr old girl who was recently diagnosed. We applied the charts and routines and really payed attention to the information. Any disease can gain control of you if you let it. I have a history of chronic heart disease and have learned that there is more to controlling a disease and recognizing how is the beginning. For this book to be helpful you must be open minded and really listen to the message and be honest with yourself in order to get control of the disease. But I can guarantee anyone with the disease if you apply this book thoroughly it will make all the difference in the world. My doctor read the book in order to help treat me and that helped even more. We are only in the beginning of understanding this disease so don't expect your family and friends to know or understand it, most doctors don't consider it unless there is nothing else to call it. But it's real and debilitating. Try It!

1-0 out of 5 stars Authors need to be more educated
This book sends some very bad messages. It does not explain how the course of fibromyalgia can be mild, moderate, or severe. Some people with severe FMS have incapacitating pain. This book implies, that, if you have incapacitating pain, you are 'just giving into it', and 'you need to find better ways of dealing with your pain than laying in bed'. Unfortunately, people who do not have FMS read books like these, and get the wrong messages about people with severe FMS. I would not recommend this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It Gave Me Back My Life
Dr Wilson's book and a Doctor that listened to me gave me back my life. About 4 years ago I sold my business because I was to sick to continue. I decided I needed to go on a seach to find out what was wrong with me. My health was at the point that I thought I was dying and all the doctors I went to couldn't figure out what was causing my problems. I even thought maybe I was going crazy it must all me in my mind. I was doing all the right things resting, taking time for me to heal and recoup, eating right, taking vitamins and I just kept getting worse. I was exhausted had mood swings, depression, anxiety and panic attacks where I was afraid to leave my house. Nightmare, headaches. Just to name a few of the things I was plegded with. I then found Doctors Wilsons web site and read all I could. Sent for his books and headed for my Doctors, saying I think I found what is wrong with me. She and I went on a learning journey together. I began Dr Wilson methods and about 6 months later was on the road to a life that I had forgotten about. It took a while to get healthly, but it did happen. I continue to do great and hope that everyone that hears about Wilson's Syndrome will give it a try and fine the life out there that is theres to enjoy. ... . ... . Good Luck

4-0 out of 5 stars Must Read For Anyone With Low Body Temperature
Dr. Wilson explains how DTSF/decreased thyroid system function can cause numerous debilitating symptoms, strikingly similar to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and not show up on routine blood tests. He explains how treatment with the active hormone T3 using his protocol has provided therapy to many patients. Case studies and discussion of symptoms are provided.

A Doctor's manual is also available which provides complete detail for treating Wilson's Syndrome.

This book could be an answer to prayer for a multitude of people and combined with the Doctor's manual gets 5 stars. ... Read more
