Whether your body is battling cancer, or any number of diseases or disorders, manual stimulation of the lymph system will help you maintain a greater degree of health. The lymphatic system, designed to cleanse and detoxify body cells, is perhaps your greatest ally during the treatment phase surrounding cancer. However, when lymphatic tissue or lymph nodes have been damaged, destroyed or removed, normal lymph drainage is compromised. Through this nurturing Lymphatic Cleasing meditation, enhanced with soothing melodies and calming rhythms, you will learn to reactivate sluggish lymph glands, as your body creates new pathways for channeling and purifying the body's waste products. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Podoconiosis in Ethiopia
While in Ethiopia, we came across the disease, Podoconiosis.
I wish we would have had this book to help us with the disease progression.

While volunteering for the hospital, we were asked to make a video of the disease and I hope the readers find it as an adjunct to the book, please enjoy the video of the disease in Ethiopia.

5-0 out of 5 stars A weighty subject
The National Institutes of Health say that there is a virtual epidemic of obesity occurring not only in the US, but in almost every advanced country--except, curiously enough--France. Fifty percent of adults over 40 are overweight, and our children aren't much better off.

As a result of reading this book, I think I've found the cause, since I believe I have this problem with at least a couple of my more "aesthetically challenged" body parts. But getting back to the present volume, this book seems to be on a timely and weighty topic that seems to be weighing equally heavily on the behinds and minds of both the general public and our health officials.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
A superb guide to the disease with the shortest "denial" stage in the medical book. I found it particularly useful in coming to terms with my condition and even taking pride in it. Perhaps a lighter take on the subject is to be found in Ernest Woodward Price's earlier work "Er, Does Sir Dress To The Right?" ... Read more

Lymphoedema is managed most successfully when advice and treatment are provided at an early stage of its development. This book provides all the necessary knowledge and the skills required to identify risk factors for the development of the disease and to equip the health care professional in providing the best advice to the patient.

It includes a framework for the assessment of the person with lymphoedema, addresses skin care, compression, and the role of exercise and movement in lymphoedema management. It also examines potential complications of the condition and possible effects upon a patient's lifestyle.

Product Description

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is today an indispensable part of Physical Therapy. This compendium begins by explaining the anatomical and physiological foundations of MLD. Simple, clear diagrams show the lymph pathways, and readers will be brought up to date with more current perspectives on the lymph systems.

However, the emphasis is on the practical use of MLD. There is a large section devoted to lymphedema and therapy with photos of several different types of patients. Other chapters of the book are devoted to traumatic injuries, central nervous system disorders, dermatological conditions, rheumatic disorders and arthropathies.

Practical aspects of MLD are dealt with in a separate section at he end of the book. Therapy strokes are described and photographed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Informative
Informative, but wordingis somewhat outdated, and a little difficult to understand at times. Original Greek/Latin terms are used-- ductus thoracicus is used instead of thoracic duct. This book covers the applications and contraindications for the use of manual lymph drainage in a large variety of conditions- not just lymphedema. That makes this book good for a massage therapist who does lymph drainage massage. I read this book in preparation for my LANA (Lymphology Association of North America) lymphedema therapist certification exam, because it was on the reading list. I would recommend this book for other lymphedema therapists and massage therapists, but would not recommend this book to my lymphedema patients. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for the right audience
This book is a wonderful resource for the management of lymphoedema caused by lymphatic filariasis. I think the previous reviewer did not realize that the book was targeting people afflicted by this disease. Since this is primarily a tropical disease, that would explain why the pictures are of people from the developing world. I would recommend this book for anyone looking to improve the treatment of patients suffering from lymphatic filariasis.

1-0 out of 5 stars Limited Information
I have lymphedema and I have purchased this book.I have underwent therapy for my lymphedema and the complete decongestive therapy I went through gave me an understanding of the condition. This book is very vauge and indicates that the best management of lymphedema is elevation. The book does not discuss the four elements of CDT.The book does not even mention the most important point of CDT which is manual lymphatic drainage (MLD).

I do not recommend the book.It has alot of colored pictures of people with lymphedema from third world countries and did not provide me any useful information.Do not purchase this book if you have lymphedema and want to learn about CDT, because it will not help you. ... Read more

Product Description
Breast cancer! Few words strike more fear into one's heart than these. Yet the author faced that very diagnosis, twice! How did she cope? By picking up pebbles of wisdom like Princess Fanciful did in the fairy-tale world of The Pebble Path.

Following her cancer diagnosis, Fanciful travels down a shadowy path through the forest of treatment. Along the way she expresses her thoughts through poetry. The poems of The Pebble Path allow the reader to contemplate cancer's multiple facets. Sometimes the poetry is laugh-out-loud boisterous, sometimes meditative. It is always honest.

Since cancer generates emotions that tend toward the universal, The Pebble Path will resonate with any reader whose life has been interrupted by malignancy or who works in a cancer-related field. The ogres, hags and other residents populating the forest of The Pebble Path will fascinate those searching for meaning and humor in their lives. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Listening to your Body
If you know someone recovering from breast cancer, surely the best gift you could give her is a set of Alice Brydges’ audiotapes: Unbound! These “gentle movement lessons for breast cancer survivors,” are twelve beautifully presented Feldenkrais Method Awareness Through Movement lessons which lead the listening student on a journey towards change and self-discovery. A beautifully illustrated booklet accompanies the set so that the student is given a clear sense of comfortable options for each physical configuration in which a lesson will be done. The need for gentleness and ease in all the movements is emphasized, and it is pointed out that the results will be greater if there is no pain or strain. The booklet concludes with a biography of Moshe Feldenkrais and a helpful list of resources for more information on the Feldenkrais Method as well as a reference section offering suggestions for further reading. The opening comments by students who have benefited from Brydges' lessons are testimony to the integrity of her approach, and to its powerful effect. The calm and strength of Brydges' voice encourage self-respect and appreciation, as she teaches how one can awaken the wisdom of one's body. This is a journey towards finding options in the way one moves as well as a more integrated sense of ones whole self. The key to success in these lessons is enjoyment of them; the inner journey they map out can be transformative. Each lesson is approximately 45 minutes long and develops from simple beginning movements through gradually more complex and challenging ones.In the “Pulling Silk” lesson which concludes the set, soft movements of the hand are joined by those of the foot, then mouth, navel, and pelvic floor, all accumulating into a wonderful lesson on bringing the whole of oneself to a totality of intention in every action. This lesson, in particular, reflects Brydges' experience in Tai Chi, drawing on images of water and waves flowing on a path of least resistance. These tapes are a wonderful way of learning how to listen to one’s body in order to avoid injury and find greater comfort in daily activities.Because they present such a thorough exploration of classic Awareness Through Movement lessons, they are as valuable for the Feldenkrais enthusiast as they are to someone discovering the work for the first time..... ... A distinguished group of basic scientists, clinicians and physiotherapists attended the congress and were given the opportunity to exchange views and discuss new concepts in the field of lymphology. As the number of people involved in lymphology increases, so does the scientific value of work and publications produced. More and more national societies are being formed worldwide, and the International Society of Lymphology is growing at a fast rate, keeping up with the changes as they occur. All in all, a promising future seems to be on the charts for this rapidly expanding field. ... Read more
