The thing is, the teacher developed behavioral strategies and explicit rules for the whole classroom, so my son was never singled out! My son's severe behaviors improved incredibly until they were exremely limited - both at school and at home. His relationships with his peers progressed amazingly. And his schoolwork blossomed; he was ranked #3 in the entire class. Alas, this year, when the strategies were NOT applied to the classroom, the whole year fell apart and we withdrew my son from that school. All goes to show, an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure, and this book gives TONS of prevention. Finally, there is a section for the parents that makes perfect sense. I liked the one about engaging in verbal arguments - it's ok not to have the LAST word as long as you have the LASTING word. This book is the Gold Standard of books on Asperger Syndrome. Along with Teresa Bolick, "Aspergers and Adolescence," I frequently recommend these books to everyone who has any tangential contact with Asperger Syndrome. THANK YOU Brenda Smith Myles for writing this book. I hope to read many more of your books.

The fact that the book was released in February and the reviewer states "It is now 2 1/2 years after I first started to practice..." means that they are not reviewing the book, but the book writer and his practices. I would almost think that the person has a vested interest in the success of the book. I may buy it yet, since I have only recently realized that I have prostatitis. I will listen to my physician's recommendations first, then look to alternative therapies, usually under the supervision of my physician. If you find that you are not comfortable enough to do the same, then I would suggest that you get a new physician, until you find one that will not only be responsible, but listen to your thoughts also. I fired 4 physicians before I found the one that I currently have, you can too. Doctors aren't gods, they need your business, not the other way around.

Among therapeutic approaches covered are manipulation, soft-tissue techniques, the Mckenzie protocol, sensorimotor rehabilitation, cervical stabilization, exercises, psychological management, and surgical. Clinical conditions include Cervical trauma, motor vehicle collisions, headaches, Cervical radicular and pseudoradicular syndromes, joint dysfunction, myofascial syndromes, vertigo, disequilibrium, orofacial pain, temporomandibular disorders, and neuropsychological dysfunction. Of all the fine information contained in this work, my favorite portions consist of the quite frequent "Clinical Pearls" interspersed thoughout each chapter. These are Dr. Murphy's own personal commentaries, practical clinical tips, and observations. They add immeasurably to the usefulness of the information in daily practice.
Traumatic inuries (i.e. fracture, dislocation, etc.) and soft tissue injuries are addressed as well as diagnoses and mechanisms of injury. Aside from the headaches, I had been perfectly healthy before taking the transdermal estradiol. My gynecologist told me this is something estrogen does -- makes the uterus and fibroids grow (not that he said one word about this when he wrote out the prescription!) If there was a warning about this in "Screaming to be Heard," I sure didn't see it. I have read on the web that this particular form of estrogen is the most potent at making fibroids grow. (Do a search for "Fibroids and Estrogen Therapy" and you can read the same article by Dr. Frederick R. Jelovsek which I read.) I wish I had never seen this book. Not only did the estradiol patches cause fibroids tumors to grow, but it only took the edge off my headaches -- not nearly as much help as I later found in another book I bought at Amazon called "Heal Your Headache" by David Buchholz. I would have been much better off if I had skipped reading "Screaming to be Heard" and kept looking elsewhere for better recommendations. ... Read more Subjects: 1. Health/Fitness 2. When I realized Dr. Teitelbaum's office is only about 40 min. drive from my home, I became very excited and wanted to make an appointment to see him. Then I learned that he charges $1,500 for the initial 3 hour visit, and this didn't include lab tests, which would be another $1,500 to $2,000! I feel somewhat betrayed! It might be better to make the book a gift to your regular doctor, and work with him or her.
However, my chronic fatigue turned out to be due celiac disease (gluten intolerance) which is thought by some researcher to have a prominence as high as 1 in 133 in the USA. Since fatigue is one of the most common symptoms (and sometimes the ONLY symptom), celiac disease deserved at least a mention in this book. There are no references to it (or to gluten as a potential toxin) at all in the book that I could find. As a result, I spent considerable money on recommended supplements which did nothing for me. Even so, one or more of the ideas in here might be just the ticket for someone else suffering from fatigue so it's definitely worth a look. If you're interested researching this possibility, check out "Dangerous Grains" by Hoggan and Braly or one of the many other excellent books on gluten intolerance for sale here on Amazon.com. After searching the net several times for something to help, I came across your book. It was an answer to prayer, literally! I didn't know how my husband would respond to trying the diet, but after he read the first several pages, he was able to identify with everything that was there and was agreeable to giving it a shot. It is unbelievable how just changing our eating habits have changed his life. And how delicious the recipes are. I have also been able to substitute safe ingredients in my own recipes, so some of his favorite dishes can now be enjoyed more than ever since he can enjoy eating again without wondering what will happen after he eats. We have been using the diet for 4 weeks, and for 4 weeks, my husband has been symptom free. He is a new man and feels as though he has been given his life back! Again, thank you for all the valuable information for IBS sufferers.
I've been following the book's recipes and tips for 6 months now and feel I have regained control over my health and my body. I have also rediscovered the joys of cooking and eating because it is the first time in twenty years I can eat food that will not leave me with the sad feeling that I've eaten the wrong thing again. I've got several books on IBS and constantly scan the Web for novelties but on top of the delicious recipes it contains, this book also provides the most comprehensive list of trigger foods, alternative ingredients, and solutions I've seen so far. It has opened my eyes about the dangers of several foods, namely egg yolks, fructose, and insoluble fiber. I have also followed links to some recommended products from other companies, peppermint capsules and hypnotherapy CDs, and these have had a great effect as well. So Heather has changed my life, really, and I thank her from the bottom of my heart.
This book is full of gourmet-style recipes. The recipes call for ingredients that are no longer exotic, since they can be found in larger grocery stores (even in places like Alaska), but are still fairly expensive. Also, while this book claims to cater to IBD as well as IBS sufferers, don't be fooled. The recipes in this book contain far too much fat, spices and insoluable fiber to be appropriate for IBD sufferers. Still, these recipes are lower in fat compared to traditional recipes. While many are gourmet-style recipes that look like they will take every bowl and pot in your kitchen to create, they do look tasty. So, if you have IBS, and are looking for variety without aggravating your condition... and you really like your kitchen, I have no reservations recommending this book. But, if you have IBD, be cautious about this book. You will most likely find that there are unacceptable ingredients and preparation methods in the recipes, unless you have a very mild form of the disease or are in remission. ... This work does a great service in making efforts to remove the stigma often associated with Asperger's. Although Asperger's is a neurological "difference" that IS on the Autism spectrum, it is not "autism," per se. Many argue the point that it is a form of autism, or a "milder form," but that question remains open. What IS known about Asperger's is that it is INDEED a spectrum condition and that it DOES share some autistic properties. Sadly, "autism" is such a highly charged term that it often eclipses the different challenges people with Asperger's contend with. This book does an admirable job of addressing this issue. I highly recommend this one for all people whether or not they are on the spectrum. It has good information and paves the way to acceptance.
Other than that, the book seems great. But I may never use it for the reason above. ... Read more Subjects: 1. Family relationships 2. Children with Special Needs 3. Janet Travell, MD and David Simons, MD were absolute pioneers when it came to myofascial pain and it's treatment. What makes these books even more amazing is that they were written a full quarter of a century before doctors even acknowledged that myofascial pain actually exsisted. . . What makes them interesting is that, in this, the most current edition, they have re-evaluated about 65% of the sites that before would only be considered for cortizone or saline injection and now recommend these areas be attended to by a Massage Therapist. They even go into strong detail as to stroke, direction and stretching. There are still plenty of sites that they recommend for injection, but only in a last resort situation. The chapters are laid out in an incredibly easy to understand manner, though that's not even the beauty of the book's design. If you know the name of the muscle in question, you simply look inside the front cover; the muscle are all listed with their coresponding page numbers next to them. Don't know the name or not sure which muscle it is in the group? No problem. You again open the front cover and there, in 5th grade simplicity, are charts for all the areas covered in the book. Flip to the area in question and look through the diagrams. When you find (in the super well drawn diagrams) the pain you are trying to treat, you are given, not only several treatment plans, but etiology and most likely direct verve aggravation associated with the pain. My only problem with the set is that the book are not as well bound as maybe they could be for the price. You'll notice, however, that it didn't have enough of an impact on me to give it any less that a perfect score. I STRONGLY recommend this book for ANY health care practitioner that deals with pain control and alleviation.

I've been coping with computer-related repetitive strain injury for over ten years, with this progression of diagnoses: bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome, epicondylitis, and thoracic outlet syndrome. I've also recently been diagnosed with Dupuytren's contracture (more in the right hand than the left). Only voice-recognition software has allowed me to continue in my work as editor and writer. I helped start an RSI discussion group at the university where I work some years ago, though it's no longer active. It was quite a mix of people, both faculty and staff, all bright people, and all pretty seriously affected by RSI. Hands down, we felt Pascarelli and Quilter's book Repetitive Strain Injury: A Computer User's Guide was the best source of information we had. How I wish we'd also had It's Not Carpal Tunnel Syndrome! back then, too. It's the first book I recommend now. Again, thank you so much for your fine book.
They provide just enough structural and physiological information to help the reader anchor themselves in a real understanding what's going on. A lot of the books spew out a lot of muscle names and nerve names kind as a way of groping for credibility, without really making sure that information is something the person can use. They're open to the ambiguity, and lay out alternative explanations, for some of the big imponderables in RSI -- such as why some people get injured others don't, or why some recover and others don't. They have pretty darn good descriptions of the nerve glides and stretches and so forth that a person needs to do. One of my great frustrations with even skilled physical therapists is that they describe a stretch and then walk away, without giving the patient good instructions that that they can follow when they get home. The most important thing of all is this: the book seems honest and clearheaded and genuine, and it's clear that they're really interested in helping to move the ball forward in understanding RSI. ...
