Product Description
In March 2001, the National Institutes of Health issued the following warning: "The number of Web sites offering health-related resources grows every day. Many sites provide valuable information, while others may have information that is unreliable or misleading." Furthermore, because of the rapid increase in Internet-based information, many hours can be wasted searching, selecting, and printing. Since only the smallest fraction of information dealing with Menkes syndrome is indexed in search engines, such as www.google.com or others, a non-systematic approach to Internet research can be not only time consuming, but also incomplete. This book was created for medical professionals, students, and members of the general public who want to conduct medical research using the most advanced tools available and spending the least amount of time doing so. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Menkes wrote a medical thriller!
Every pediatrician knows Dr. Menkes as an author of Textbook of Child Neurology or a discoverer of 'Menkes kinky hair syndrome.' I haven't read through the thick textbook yet, but I finished The Angry Puppet Syndrome tothe last page. I don't like the ending and the scene of some Japaneseresearchers making a blunder, although it is quite realistic, unfortunately. I found the author a very good storyteller and learned someof the research funding system of the US which is quite different fromJapan. I expect his next novel eagerly.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good read
A timely and almost too true well-told tale. The protagonists are real and the conflict perhaps increasingly common. It is not only a good story but a needed warning. As an old mystery reader, I'm glad a friend touted me on to it. The author not only knows his subject but his people as well. Ringstrue.

5-0 out of 5 stars A tale of the 90's, of good and evil
John Menkes has woven a striking, intense story of medical, legal, and business intrigue. In the atmospheres of medical academia and class action legalism, a mediocre researcher who is an astute and dedicated clinician isthreatened and embattled by his superiors and by the hierarchy of apowerful drug cartel as he attempts to force recall of a newly approvedantidepressantassociated with devastating, yet inconstant, side effects. Working with a brilliant and attractive woman attorney, he facesinnumerable illegal and immoral roadblocks as he struggles to preventfurther distribution of this potentially useful but dangerous drug.Well-written, medically and legally erudite, this book is a fascinating,quick-moving tale that provides both nail-biting entertainment and valuableeducation. The details of the development of the drug, of its clinicalusage, of its bizarre side effects, of its monetary value to the drugcompany, and of the legal maneuverings by both plaintiff and defendentcould only have been written by someone privy to the most intimate detailsof medical research and the judicial process. ...
