Product Description
In the United States alone, over ten million people--many of them women and young adults--are known to suffer from the heart condition known as Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome (MVPS). Countless others with chest pains, fatigue, dizziness, depression, migraines, or anxiety attacks are totally unaware that symptoms may be MVPS related or even that MVPS is treatable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars MVPS explained.
This book is great for anyone with symptomatic Mitral Valve Prolapse. It is like the nurse writing this book can read my mind.It has tips on how to control symptoms without meds.

5-0 out of 5 stars Changed my life
This book, discovered some years ago while I was suffering (unknowingly) from MVPS, explained so many things which had happened in my life.It led to my visiting the MVP Center in Birmingham, AL (the author was one of the founders), which resulted in my condition being understood. And treated. And I have been able to live my life sort of "happily ever after", which I was not able to do at the time.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book gave me hope!
I recommend this book to anyone who has been diagnosed or thinks they may have MVP. Lyn Fredrickson takes a rational approach and gives practical, medically sound advice for the person with MVP. After reading this book, I knew I was not dying, and I wasn't crazy. Ms. Fredrickson assured me my symptoms were real, and gave me hope for a life unchained from those symptoms. Don't pay any attention to the reader from State College, PA. They obviously did not read this book. Judge for yourself!

4-0 out of 5 stars solid book
First and only book on MVP I have read.Read it while my heart was jumping out of my chest, on the road 2,400 miles from home.Have suffered "palpitations" for 20 years that doctors never have diagnosed. This book just hit home with things I have been feeling for a very long time.Turns out my mother has MVP.I feel this book helped me very much to feel better about what I "may" have.It gave me a lot of useful info on what to do.It is a basic AMA approach and discourse.

1-0 out of 5 stars not worth the paper it is printed on
this book pokes fun at people with MVP and MVPS.the author spends toomuch time on her so called "neuroses" in people with MVP andMVPS.after reading this book i am convinced that the author wrote it onlyto convince people with MVP and MVPS that their physical condition isbasically all in their head.this is just another book that victimizes thevictom of a difficult to deal with medical disorder.also, book is veryout dated, and very much the opinion of the author not at all any realmedicine in this book. spend some more money on a more recent book on MVPand MVPS. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Not the best book on this subject
Too much information on what the symptoms are and how it affects our lives. I already know that because I have been living with this for almost 6 years. So I then bought "Natural Therapies for Mitral Valve Prolapse" and got the information I wanted. It is a small booklet that gets right to the point on exactly what to do and the suggestions are working, so far.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a relief!

I received very little information from my Doctor
about Mitral Valve Prolapse and all the side effects......this book gave me a piece of mind and also
the information I needed to help minimize my symptoms!

5-0 out of 5 stars Validation That it's Not "All in Your Head"
This book is a must read for anyone with an elusive diagnosis and suffering from fatigue, dizziness, disorientation, vague gastrointestinal symptoms, heart palpitations, anxiety attacks or migraines. I suffered from debilitating symptoms for nearly a decade before I was correctly diagnosed with an autonomic disorder by Dr. Watkins (wrote the Foreword for this book.) With the correct diagnosis, he single-handedly gave me back my life after I had been unable to drive a car, walk more than 20 or 30 feet and live a normal life for nearly a decade.

Today, I am seeking re-entry into the workforce, I drive and shop every chance I get, and I run 35 miles per week. But without the correct diagnosis, none of this would be possible. Imagine how many other cases of MVP/dysautonomia are undiagnosed and misdiagnosed, with patients suffering needlessly! Kudos to the authors for bringing awareness to MVP/dysautonomia with this well-written, informative reference guide.

4-0 out of 5 stars Who should buy this book?
Who should buy this book?a person who has had a diagnosis of mitral valve prolape but their physician has not gone into details with them about the systoms. It's a relief to know that there are things you can do to relieve and manage some symptoms. The only criticism is that the book is dated and needs some updating.

5-0 out of 5 stars very good book

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource
I bought this book a few years ago after being diagnosed with MVP.I read the personal stories and felt great sympathy for the people who were experiencing so many symptoms which I didn't have. However, in the past two years, I have experienced many new symptoms and this book has been so reassuring and helpful in giving me ideas about how to control them.I have found Dr. Scordo to have much more knowledge about MVP than any of the primary care physicians I have visited. This book has been immensely helpful to me and I would highly recommend it to anyone diagnosed with MVP.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!
At first I was a little concerned because of some of the negative reviews. But I did my research and found Dr. Scordo's information at the faculty site of her university. The book will speak for itself. It is excellent with excellent information. Love the stories of other people with MVPS and love all the helpful advice. I too am a teacher and appreciated the additional references in the book. Without any doubts, this is a great book for those who want to learn more about MVP!

5-0 out of 5 stars Response to: Disappointed in outdated information & lack of author creden, September 3, 2002
I would like to correct some misinformation in the review posted by Louis in Alabama. The author has a PhD in Nursing, Cardiac Physiology, not an "unrelated field."

5-0 out of 5 stars Life Style Saver
This book is the best one you can get on the market! She worked miracles when she led the MVP Syndrome Support group in Cincinnati! She is well educated, and I know she has a PHD in Cardiac Nursing! This book can be a life style saver, if you are willing to read it and apply the recomendations to your life. You can't go wrong with this book!It will validate everything you are experiencing! You will no longer feel like it is all in your head.Kris Scordo has studied, and worked with the MVP patients. Product Description
Sharon Anderson explores Mitral Valve Prolapse, a syndrome that has puzzled many for decades, and sheds light on a disease that affects so many and is addressed too little. The symptoms of the disease are not dissimilar from those of other ailments: palpitations, fainting, fatigue, shortness of breath, migraine headaches, chest pain, episodes of extremely rapid or irregular heartbeat, dizziness and lightheadedness. This makes diagnosing this disease more challenging, but Anderson explains why this disease s ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sharon Anderson shares important information that your doctor may not have told you about mitral valve prolapse
Ever since I was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse ten years ago by a doctor who couldn't get off of the phone fast enough after briefly stating the my echocardiogram showed that I had MVP and bombarding me with the "reassurance" that I have come to discover is the treatment of choice for this poorly understood, yet surprisingly common heart valve dysfunction, I have, as many others with this disease, found it excruciatingly difficult to get the kind of medical information that might help me to cope -- if only psychologically -- as my valve continues its process of steady deterioration -- and my quality of life declines with it.If you have a progressive form of this illness -- or wish to know more about what you can do to prevent the progression of mitral valve prolapse -- you'll find this book to be an eye-opener.In it, Sharon Anderson thoroughly traces the history of the discovery of the disorder and the frankly bizarre development of psychoneurotic hypotheses (which some doctors still mistakenly believe to be supported by research) of MVP's origins and symptoms. She points the reader in the direction of some of the most meaningful and informative medical research and theory development (such as that of Dr. John Barlow) on the disorder while weaving in her personal experience of both MVP itself and the medical negligence that led to unnecessary further deterioration of her mitral valve.Of all of the books, articles, and websites I have consulted on MVP, I found this to be the most information-rich.Although it's not a self-help manual, I've found that this monograph offers a lot of valuable insight that has helped to guide my own inquiry into the specfics of my own condition.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK Book
I recently book all the books on Amazon.com on MVP. The best one out of all of them is Taking Control--the latest edition. This book is OK but almost sounds like an angry person wrote it. I believe some of the advice is helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars informative

Product Description
Mitral Valve Prolapse is a heart murmur found commonly in the general public and can cause heart palpitations, orthostatic hypotension (dizziness upon standing), other symptoms of an imbalanced nervous system and anxiety/panic symptoms. Medical Research studies have found it to be even more common in thyroid disease patients, especially those with autoimmune type thyroid disorders. It is also believed to be about 5 times more common in females than in males. Many people with MVP do not experience symptoms while those who do are termed as having "MVP-Syndrome". The condition can also cause an imbalance in the "involuntary nervous system" (dysautonomia) and has been associated with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in some patients who have it.This in-print book, which is also available as an e-book title on Amazon, can help to provide the reader with a general education regarding the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of this very common heart murmur. ... Product Description
In this 10,200 word e-book I address nine common health conditions, affecting millions of Americans and many others worldwide. While this resource is not intended to replace diagnosis and treatment by medical professionals, it does provide a source of general information on these commonly experienced health disorders.

For some readers, it may help them identify an illness they suspect they may be suffering from (a definitive diagnosis must come through a medical professional).

Most patients desire an informative overview of the disease affecting them and a general idea about the diagnosis and treatments that are administered for it. It was my intention through this e-book, to provide such an information resource in regard to health disorders that often have lifelong effects.

The health disorders addressed in the chapters:

Osteoarthritis
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Mitral Valve Prolapse
Metabolic Syndrome
Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
Hypothyroidism
Pernicious Anemia
Sjogren’s Syndrome
Adrenal Insufficiency

Now writing for multiple sites, I was Thyroid Health Editor for BellaOnline.com from March 2008 to May 2009 and a general health writer for Suite101.com, where I was awarded Editor's Choice Awards. ... Read more
