The dispute has never been resolved, and MPD has become the most controversial syndrome known to mental health professionals. Currently, very little balanced academic material on this disorder is available, and much of the literature aims to disprove its existence as a psychiatric disorder. In the past, general understanding of MPD was guided largely by this medical literature, but in recent decades the disorder has been widely exposed to both professionals and the public through the mass media.

This timely work examines MPD from an empirical viewpoint, describing the research that has been done on the disorder, as well as providing in-depth analysis of how MPD has developed over the years in relation to the media. An intellectual blitz (blitz being good)
North, et al., do an excellent job tearing apart their opponents-- with surprisingly humble rhetoric.

The science is sound, the premises are solid, and their opinions have been borne-out by time.I only wish the culture-at-large got their paws on this knowledge morsel sooner. . . or ever.

The rhetoric is not just an added bonus.They needed to come at this problem with enough force to make people respect them, but also with enough gentleness, so that one might be entirely defensive to their argument if it ran counter to their ingrained thought.The rhetoric in this book should be examined and imitated by scientists, because our knowledge must be palatable before it can be swallowed!

I enjoyed this book. It was different than the many books on demon oppression/possession out there. I believe he is right on track biblically. A Slight Disappointment
I borrowed this book from the public library mainly because I couldn't find the book I was originally looking for.I was mildly disappointed in this book because all the other books I've read on multiple personalities was far more interesting as far as explaining why the person was the way they were.This book does that too but I feel like it was a rather lazily written book.The details were left out and you were left to wonder about the significance of some events that were cited.I wasn't wild enough about this book to want to include it in my personal collection as I have so many other books that I've read from the library.As a study in multiple personalities it seems too clinical for normal reading.I enjoyed it for what it was but will not be putting it on my book shelf.

Intense
This unforgettable account of the author's discovery of her dissociative identity disorder ("split personality"), and her battle to integrate her personality, is gripping and honest, yet Madison Clell is able to maintain a sense of humor about it. It's almost unbearable as she slowly recalls, in her healing of herself, one childhood trauma after another. At times the lettering and even the art is so frenzied, it can be difficult to read, but the style fits the subject, and it is well worth taking the time to unravel the content on each page.
