Deeply rooted in Indian philosophy, perplexing, soaring in imagination, wonderfully improbable, intelligently abstruse...

... in these stories Dinker Charak weaves fifteen tales around characters whose insanity verges upon philosophical proclivity, whose simplicity only intensifies trifling incidents, whose circumstances rouses their dexterity, whose loneliness daunts and whose indiscriminate intelligence saves the day.

5-0 out of 5 stars The images stay in your mind
I've read about half the stories in this book. Some of them are also on the net (try searching for the author).
The stories have this dreamy, Borges-like feel to them. They leave you with images that flash into your mind days, weeks later. For example, "Waiting for the Rain" had me trying hard to get the image of God with blank eyes out of my head - and failing. "The Boat Ride" sparkles with the splash of an oar in the water.
But the big one, the title story, is rather different in scope from the rest. It is a long play of ideas from physics, AI, anthropology, mathematics...like a novel compressed into 30 pages. I had to read it several times to grasp all of it.
Definitely worth a read...there'll be *something* in there you'll think was meant for you. ... Read more

Product Description
Are you a God-Buff? Or does the topic of religion give you the “HeBGB’s?” Either way, you’ll find inspiration in Heart Murmurs by Joan Butman.

A series of essays that began as testimonies given by Joan at her Bible Study group, Heart Murmurs celebrates everyday spirituality by exploring topics such as forgiveness, worry, plastic surgery, and putting up the Christmas lights. Avoiding the “in your face” approach to Christianity, Joan uses humor and a hefty dose of humility in her reflections on Scripture:

“…I’d like to sign up for liposuction of the heart to suck out all of the pride, anger, resentment, jealousies, and grievances I keep harbored there…then follow it up with a Botox injection to infuse me with the fruits of the spirit: ‘love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control’ (Galations 5:22-23). Now that’s my idea of reconstructive surgery.”

Whether you’re a God-Buff, a Bible Babe, or anyone whose heart could use a lift, Heart Murmurs will bring a smile to your face and warmth to your soul. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Food for thought.......
I happen to know and admire Joan already and her book just reinforced what I already know about her wonderful character. As a wife, mother and denizen of the same Connecticut town I know exactly of what she speaks when she writes about all the pressures we face on a day to day basis.I received the book in the mail yesterday and read it cover to cover.I couldn't stop thinking about it and will be rereading it today. For me, finding God in my everyday life is a journey that I have just started.I'm glad she is along for the ride. ... Product Description

Have you ever ignored a coincidence and wished you hadn't?
Have you ever disregarded a hunch that was later proved as fact?
Have you ever had a dream...and watched it come true?

If prayer is about talking to God,
Signs and Wonders is about listening for God's answers.

Albert Clayton Gaulden, founder and director of the Sedona Intensive, believes that God speaks to us personally in a language that is rich in symbol and coincidence, offering messages and guidance we can put to use every day to solve our problems and gain peace, joy, and direction. In Signs and Wonders, Gaulden teaches us how to open ourselves up to the language of God, and open ourselves to a more meaningful life.

How can we listen to God? How can God help us to understand the answers to our prayers? How can we learn to ward off worry, fear, doubt, and despair? Signs and Wonders contains practical strategies, anecdotes, case studies, and stories of personal transformation that can help us to clear God's channel -- the way we listen -- and master a new form of communication. For when we learn to be receptive to God's language, we can begin to benefit from its grace. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars amazing
This book will help any doubter re-affirm their beleif in GOd, and his importance in their lives. It absolutely did for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tune In: The Universal Language
I really enjoyed reading this book! I related to many of the "new language" experiences, and was happy to have confirmed that what I sense, hear, and feel is not only in my imagination. I especially enjoyed that the message is universal in approach, as it does not preach to any specific (man-made and/or institutional)religious beliefs. You will enjoy this book if you have had strong intutitive moments, and would like to explore the many ways that "God" (or whatever you choose to call the force that connects all life), speaks to us everyday.

5-0 out of 5 stars 1st time user, now life time user :-)
I've ordered two books from Amazon since Christmas and I am very happy with my purchases.I also love the fact that Amazon offers the used book offer.I ordered one book from that venue and I am equally happy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Now you can learn what God Communicates to you
Hello -

I have to totally contradict the first reviewer here, who seems to have missed the whole point... you can look around you at the wonder of the world, and learn to interpret how God speaks to you.The author is anything but narrow-minded -- to the contrary, he has worked with the likes of James Redfield (Author of "The Celestine Prophecy"). And, Paolo Coelho (Author of "The Alchemist") praised his book as, "an important step towards a new consciousness that will change the planet."Gaulden himself writes that though he uses the male pronoun,"He", to reference God in the text, you should choose "whatever fits your understanding of God."This book is the exact opposite of "cult-like" thinking -- instead, you learn to hear what God has to say to you... and make your own choices accordingly. The introduction speaks of "removing the intermediaries between God and us" -- no cult leaders would embrace that concept.

So... let me just tell you why I give this book a five-star rating:If God talks to us through signs and wonders that we can learn to perceive and interpret, is there anything more important to learn about? Finally, if you, like I, have talked to God and ever wondered how to hear Him, then this is the book for you.

1-0 out of 5 stars This book is nonsense
This book is nonsense. It spreads the same lies and cult-like thinking that causes good people to strap bombs to their backs and blow themselves up. If you are looking for a message from GOD here it is: GOD DOES NOT REQUIRE YOUR SERVICES ANYMORE. GOD CAN TAKE CARE OF THINGS HIMSELF. IF GOD NEEDED YOUR HELP HE WOULD NOT BE GOD. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Murmurs
Call me biased.I practice medicine less than an hour from Dr. Miksanek and attended medical school with him. This is the most underappreciated book I've read.Tony's witty style and incredible insight into the nuances of medicine are presented from a very unusual perpective--the prince of medical diagnostic instruments. The stethoscope nearly always hangs around the doctor's neck and thus exposed to many aspects of medical care otherwise missed by nearby (human) observers. The stethoscope is not bound by the limits of confidentiality that other observers would be.The stethoscope being mere steel and plastic is an unbiased reliable observer free any "spinning" of the truth.

Dr. Miksanek has written THE BOOK for those who want to experience the trials and travails of being a doctor and want to see who the REAL HEROES of today's world are (and, no, it's not the doctors).I would especially recommend this book for those aspiring to the medical field.

Should be a best seller *****... ... Read more
