Product Description

This book fills a gap in developmental books dealing with the normal prenatal mammalian brain. Most books that approach this topic work with non-human, non-vertebrate models. Mammalian Brain Development focuses on both the pre-natal and the peri-natal events that lead to brain damage as seen in the prospective of medical and research professionals, as well as examining the traditional “nature versus nurture” argument in the spectrum of brain development. The major topics addressed, in detail, in the book are sexual dimorphism, epigenetic action of gonadal hormones, environmental “programming” effects, autism, developmental learning disorders, seizures, and the etiopathogenesis of epileptic syndromes in young humans. The book also covers the general aspects of postnatal and pediatric neurological disorders in a unique and novel way by offering definitions of heredity, inheritance, genetic-epigenetic, genomic, molecular, developmental, and innate aspects of the mammalian brain in regards to its development.

Product Description
In the 15 years since publication of the first edition, Steps to Follow has gained a worldwide reputation among professionals as a unique practical guide to the treatment of neurologically impaired patients.

This second, completely updated edition incorporates significant practical advances in early and later neurorehabilitation and in the understanding of the problems confronting both patients and those who work with them.

The relevant therapeutic activities to improve functional ability and quality of life following a stroke are described in detail with the help of 750 photos showing patients in action during treatment.

-Practical ways in which patients can be helped to interact more normally with their environment and so regain their independence, in spite of the perceptual disorders often associated with hemiplegia
-More detailed explanation of hand function and more in-depth analysis of normal walking
-Revised chapters on the various therapeutic activities, including new ways to retrain selective movements and prevent or counteract increases in muscle tone
-Deeper understanding of abdominal muscle activity, which is relevant to retraining balance reactions and sitting and standing
-A new chapter demonstrating how David Butler's concept of the mobilization of neural structures throughout the body can be of inestimable value
-Examples of ways in which therapists, nurses and relatives can help to avoid the development of secondary complications such as pain and loss of range of motion or overcoming existing difficulties
-Ways in which the patient can maintain mobility and continue to make progress even after cessation of treatment, by exercising at home and participating in sporting and other leisure activities ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome.
My son has a traumatic brain injury and right side hemiphagia. He doesn't talk, eat, or walk.I have purchased many books over the past year to help me help him. This book is the best practical guide with great illustrations and common sense suggestions for hemiphagia patients.I am looking forward to reading her other book (Starting Again).

5-0 out of 5 stars Good guide for caregivers
The book gives a well presented description of the ailment and how to go about the rehabilitation of the patient.

3-0 out of 5 stars wrong edition
way to old of an edition for me to use for school, I'm not sure if I read it wrong or it wasnt' listed.I can't get back to the description.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book, but advanced
A very good book, but advanced for the new grad (at least it was for me). It does contain wonderful information and utilizes NDT. It certainly is easier to understand after an intro NDT course teaches the basics. I dig this book out from time to time to freshen up my skills with CVA patients.
