5-0 out of 5 stars Hard Work, Takes Time, butWORKS
All I can say is that this book is fabulous. However, only for the diligent. If you are someone who is committed to changing- and actually will follow through, this is the book for you. It has taken me over 4 months, and I am still only 2/3 done with the book.It is not a quick fix and will not be something you can fly thorough. It is amazing, and has changed my life in the most amazing way.I have recommended it to so many people.

5-0 out of 5 stars best anxiety workbook ever! a must have!
This book changed my life. If you want results, I would certainly grab a copy and do all the helpful exercises. You won't regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars After 20 years of searching, finally an answer.
I have struggled with a phobia for nearly 20 years. I have tried everything to heal it, from popular audio programs(think late night infomercials) to eft to changing diet to just trying to muscle through it, to cognitive therapy, to hypnotherapy, to YOU NAME IT. I have tried it. This book HAD MY ANSWER. Really and truly, this book healed my phobia. I still get anxiety, but I don't fight it now. I'm practicing every day and shocking myself how much more calm I am, not only with my phobia, but with my life! This book has saved my life. I can't thank the authors enough!

1-0 out of 5 stars The Mindfulness & Acceptance Workbook for Anxiety
This product didn't help me.I find her voice too abrupt and without authenticity, like she was reading unfeelingly from a page instead of thinking about what she was saying. In the first part she asks us to breathe naturally, just noticing how we breathe, but she guides the speed of our breath by saying "in, out, in, out" rather quickly right after that.

4-0 out of 5 stars Acceptance is the beginning
As a mindfulness psychotherapist and author of 'The Path of Mindfulness Meditation', I welcome this book. The problem is always in how we relate to our inner traumas and painful emotions. Do we accept them and give them our full attention or do we react out of habit with aversion and resistance? Acceptance is not about giving in and resignation, but about the first step in choosing to form a real relationship with our suffering based on openness of mind and heart. ... Read more

Product Description
More than half of all Americans suffer from one or more phobias at some time during their lives. This book draws upon the extraordinary wealth of current scientific and clinical research on phobias, including Dr. Gardner's own experiences with patients, to answer six pressing questions for anyone who suffers from phobias and for the friends and relatives of such sufferers:* What is a phobia? What are its typical symptoms? How do I know if I have a phobia?* What causes phobias? Are they inherited or learned?* Who is vulnerable to phobias? Do phobias indicate mental illness?* How can phobias be diagnosed, managed, and overcome? What therapies have proven most successful in treating phobias?* What can I learn about my specific phobia? Does it have a name? Do others suffer from it?* What resources are available to help me overcome my phobias or help a friend with phobias? This book is a hands-on guide to recovery from the bondage of phobias. Although the authors certainly do not claim that this material will cure all phobias, they are confident that the inquiries, guidelines, and checklists contained here will guide readers toward the help they need in understanding and overcoming phobias. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars this book is broader than just phobias
As a psychologist specializing in fear and phobias, I found this book very helpful. It gives a lot of great advice about phobias. It is written in everyday language and is very easy to understand i.e. avoids academic jargon. My only complaint, and some may not see this as a negative, is the title is mis-leading as it doesn't just concentrate on phobias. I'd estimate that about half is on phobias and the other half covers more general anxiety. Now it could be argued, which the authors do, that general anxiety fuels phobias. I'd say they are probably right. However, if you are after a book to quickly treat your phobia then this might not be the best choice. If on the other hand you are after a book that offers a lot of life skills for managing phobias and long term stress and anxiety, then this book is gold. It has some great advice such as the list of 40 simple things to reduce anxiety (all covered on 1 page), tips on different forms of therapies e.g massage, acupuncture, exercise, diet and medication etc.
I believe that the more information you can find out about anxiety and phobias, the better a position you'll be in to manage it. This book is well worth a read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life Saver
For years I've known that I've had an extreme social fear. However, finding
someone, even a therapist, to understand, is very difficult. No matter how I explained my situation, people just did not get it.I was more surprised that the therapists also seemed mystified and could not help me sufficiently.I gave up and decided that I would not engage in any social activities within my control. It was to embarrassing, humiliating and hurtful.
I found this book at the library and while reading it, I felt my world opening up to new possibities and hope.I, as a reader, felt that this author really cared and had a passion for healing people with this condition. The author took his time and defined not just social phobia but other phobias as well.He compared simple shyness with extreme shyness so that the reader could get a clear understanding of the difference. He organized a list of symptoms for each type of anxiety (phobia). He offered a number scale for the reader to participate in inorder to find a general idea of their own condition. He wrote about treatment options that were available at the time that the book was written.Best of all he offered tips on how to find good help within the readers living area.
Everyone who has any sort of anxiety (phobia) should definately read this book. You owe it to yourself. It is a life saver.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Comprehensive Study of Social Phobia
I have social phobia. I have undergone therapy and drug medication in its treatment. I first was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I read this work as I was coming to better understand the true nature of mydisorder. If you'd like to understand what my life has been like, pleaseread this book.Marshall's "Social Phobia" is acomprehensive study and explanation of not only the syptoms of SocialPhobia, but also a synopsis of current research into the work. Not tosuggest that the work is in any way esoteric. Marshall portrays thecharacter of this disorder through numerous case-studies from his work atthe Anxiety Clinic at University of Wisconsin - Madison. He first gives avery full picture of how social phobia manifests itself in peoples' livesbefore going into theories as to why. He is wonderful at telling thesepeoples' stories. From this starting point, he moves deftly into hisacademic knowledge of the subject, offering the reader easy access to theprofessional's knowledge. Marshall's book offers the real-life story ofSocial Phobia and an objective study of it. I found both of great value; heshowed me that there are others out there like me and also helped me tobetter understand (and thereby recover from) Social Phobia. At the end ofthe book, he summarizes current treatments of this disorder, offers anAppendix which differentiates Social Phobia from the other AnxietyDisorders, and provides a suggested reading list. Marshall's work has beenan enormous help in my own life, and if you wish to understand thisdisorder, it can be of immense value to you, too. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Granoff saved my life!
I was suffering from what was initially believed to be a heart problem- tachycardia, sweating, high anxiety, faintness, for no apparent cause. These symptoms began quite suddenly, for no apparent reason. Later, the symptoms became so severe that I developed phobias that put great restrictions on my ability to live and work. Because I love life and the outdoors, and needed to keep working, I began to do my own research. After several doctors told me that there was no such thing as a true "panic attack," I found Dr. Granoff- practically in my own back yard. I ordered the book and video, and learned that not only was I NOT alone, but that there was a treatment for my problem which would allow me to resume a normal life. Anxiety and panic are real, not something one can simply "snap out of," and these are illnesses that can be treated and managed. Dr. Granoff will work with you regardless of your circumstances. He really cares!
I have been a patient of his for almost 10 years, so I know of what I speak. His wife Ann who runs the office, and Yellow Lab "Nugget" who greets the patients with a kind brown eyed gaze and wagging tail are wonderful too and the three of them make a team that is hard to beat.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT Resource for Anxiety or Panic Disorder Sufferers
This is my very first review, although I have been using Amazon for many many years... This book is incredible. It is clearly written, easy to follow, and provides a vast amount of information in a condensed 90-page book. This book outlines what many other books written about this topic do, but builds on it by offering a real, no-nonsense guide to selecting a qualified medical professional to assist the reader with help.It is well-documented that therapy is one of the most effective treatment options for people suffering from anxiety disorders, especially panic disorder in particular. I speak from personal experience, as I have suffered from both anxiety and panic disorders for many years. As someone who has scoured all available resources in an effort to educate myself on this, I am truly glad I found this book. Simply put, if you or someone you know is dealing with these issues, this book is a great place to start.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dated; Really pushes the Medications
Written and updated way back in 1997; would have been better to have the latest information on the medicines in the intervening 10 years. His insistence on pushing the anti-anxiety medications - despite their addictive qualities - made me uncomfortable. He also seems disdainful of alternative methods of treating/overcoming anxiety/panic disorders.I had hoped to really like his book and find it useful and reassuring, but instead, I felt annoyed at reading it - as if the author was arrogant with his opinions and attitude about treatment options.I cannot recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Read!!!
Prior to reading Dr. Granoff's book I had tried numerous medications, psychotherapy, CBT, desensitization, etc. etc.Nevertheless, the panic remained.I was on the fast track to complete agorophobia.Subsequent to reading his book I met with him and now I am living my life again and pursuing a career path and life that seemed impossible before. With the CORRECT knowledge, treatment for what is a physical condition, and some personal work; you can overcome panic disorder.I highly recommend his book.In short, Dr. Granoff is a REAL consumer advocate for those suffering from this crappy disorder.

5-0 out of 5 stars EYE OPENING
Dr. Granoff's book is superb. For anyone who has ever suffered a panic attack, this book should be the first one that you read.

The well-credentialed Dr. Granoff begins with a thorough, yet understandable, analysis of what occurs chemically in a person's brain when they suffer a panic attack. (The list of symptoms will absolutely surprise you. You may find that panic disorder has been manifesting itself over many years, sometimes worsening in the absence of appropriate treatment.)

An interesting fact that I discovered in this book is that benzodiazepine is a naturally occurring chemical in the brain. Dr. Granoff compassionately, yet analytically, explains how this chemical functions in the brain, and how panic attacks can occur when there are deficient quantities of naturally-occurring benzodiazepine.

Dr. Granoff does not say this, but, it is possible that, after you read this book, you will conclude that the pharmaceutical industry deliberately pushes its new, PATENTED, EXPENSIVE drugs, while at the same time dogging the benzodiazepine family of drugs (Xanax, etc.) because the exclusive patents on the benzodiazepines have expired and they are, thus, a cheap (and perhaps more effective) means of treating your panic disorder.

Of course, only a competent psychiatrist can properly determine your clinical diagnosis, but, Dr. Granoff gives an accessible view of panic disorder and its solutions.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, however, Dr. Granoff gives you lots of hope by sharing his substantial clinical experience in treating this potentially debilitating disorder. If you can stop panic attacks, then that is a victory for you and your loved ones, and Granoff explains how victory is possible.

Many thanks to Dr. Granoff for writing a book that steared me in the right treatment direction. I consider it providence that this plain-looking book would have helped me so much. I was unable to carry on my profession before I sought the appropriate treatment after reading this book. I have a life now, and a hope. And that is more than I can say that I had two years ago. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good primer for learning more about anxiety and panic attacks, etc.

My 88 year old mother started having panic attacks a few months ago. This book was excellent in helping me to develop a basic understanding of what the heck is happening to her.
Easier to understand than others I've looked at. Just a good reference book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Look No Further! Author/Therapist Reneau Z. Peurifoy is the Doctor House of Psychologists
I met Author/Therapist Reneau Z. Peurifoy in Sacramento, California almost 20 years ago. I used his book faithfully and met with Mr. Peurifoy for therapy sessions once a week over a two year period. I was insured through Kaiser Permanente and diagnosed with Depression and Panic Anxiety Disorder. I was an absolute basket case at the time and continued to get worse while be treated by a Kaiser psychiatrist. Unexpectedly, a Kaiser employee, seeing that I was abnormally distressed, approached me and said that I would never recover if I continued getting treatment at Kaiser. I was then referred to someone out of their network: Mr. Reneau Z. Peurifoy who was one of the few therapists back then that really knew anything about Panic Anxiety Disorder. I didn't have medical insurance that would allow me to see Reneau Peurifoy and had to pay out of pocket. He let me pay what I could afford and continued to help me. I think the most I paid him was $20 a session which was cheap even in the late 80's. Needless to say, this man saved my life.
He saved my marriage and kept my family together. He was always there for me and I am forever thankful. Every now and then I think about how he helped that younger version of me who was an absolute lunatic. He gave me the courage to move forward and made me see that the world wasn't as scary as I thought it was. Buy his book as it is well worth the investment. However, you must do the exercises as he suggests and endure the discomfort that he will challenge you to overcome. He speaks the truth and really has a deep understanding of human behavior. He really is the Dr. House of
psychologists and I thought that I would pay him this compliment because I accidentally came across his book while browsing through Amazon's Listmania.

5-0 out of 5 stars Please consider reading this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars A published infomercial
I purchased this book to aid in an upcoming flight after not flying for 2 1/2years.I was hoping it would help. I was wrong. This book is basically a published infomercial for the author's website. It was a HUGE disappointment and not helpful in the least.I'm amazed that anyone would publish it.I couldn't finish it and moved quickly on to a different book that I had purchased at the same time and found that one to be filled with information of use to me.Skip this one.Trust me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This book is very helpful for someone who has panic attacks. Geert knows firsthand what it is like and who but someone who has experienced panic, should write a book about how to stop it.His advice is easy to understand and put into practice in your own life. I have had panic for about 40 years and have read a lot of self help books but this one is the best, by far.I use his techniques and they do work.I have not had a panic attack for over a year.I am driving again too, thanks to this book and Geert's advice. My mantra now is "Whatever happens, it's ok."Read this book and get the help that you need with panic attacks and anxiety.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but not the best
Although this book provides useful information about cognitive (thought) and relaxation strategies that help reduce anxiety, it is not the best available.A better self-help book is THE ANXIETY & PHOBIA WORKBOOK (3rd. Ed.) by Edmund Bourne. Bourne provides more detailed information about and a wider variety of relaxation techniques as well as more information about the rationale behind and research support for the techniques.

4-0 out of 5 stars Noteworthy primer on addressing anxiety and phobias
This is a small book but it has all the essentials one needs to address anxiety and phobias. Babior and Goldman have done a fine job condensing necessary strategies and providing examples.

3-0 out of 5 stars Useful but not enough
While I liked what this book offered, it did not offer enough. I wanted something that gave me a great deal more information and insight and not just a few basics and exercises. What the authors do, however, they do well. I like how they write. After I read this book I read Diagonally Parked in a Parallel Universe which I found much more enlightening, insightful, personal and useful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Insurmountable Help
I read the book, and am fortunate enough to reside in the same town where Shirley Babior practices.I can't say enough about how she, and the advice in her book, have changed my life.I refer to the book very often because it is an ongoing process to overcome difficult Panic and Anxiety disorder. This book saved me from a future that was certain to be wracked with a lot of unnecessary worry, fear, phobia, and anxieties I thought would never end!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Reveals nothing, explains little. Phobia Dictionary, I guess?
For being auspiciously titled "Phobias Reveled and Explained," it is neither revealing nor explanatory.

All that this book does is give a very, very brief definition of many phobia names and in many cases the word origin. It's peppered by vaguely related color images.

I was hoping for some more substance to this book (facts, figures, trivia, notable historical figures who had the phobias, ways we come to acquire phobias, which phobias are most/least common; something!), but there just wasn't any. There was about a 1-2 page exegesis at the start of the book relating to phobias, but that was about it.

Honestly, I feel like this book was a waste of my time and money, which are both precious commodities these days. If I wanted the barest definitions of terms I'd just Google them or use [...]

Can I get back my money and the 1/2 hr of my life I spent thumbing through it?

1-0 out of 5 stars not what I expected
not what I expected. Nothing was revealed or explained. I did purchase the book for under $5, so I can't complain too much, but I was expecting a beginners guide to phobias, not a picture book. Most definitions are just mild translations of where the root of the word came from. (ex. crystallophobia - the dread of crystals originates from the Greek word crystallo, which means glass or crystal).I would not recommend this product if you are interested in a more in depth analysis of fears and phobias. ... It is meant for both:- the commitment-phobe, - and the partner of the commitment-phobe.This is a workbook, not an academic dissertation or a formulaic self-help book: - It is short (49 pages), thought-provoking and substantive. - The concepts are laid out clearly and concisely.- Charts and pictures help you see that there is a logical way to work through the issues, without losing touch with your feelings. - Challenging questions help you figure out where you stand, and what to do... from the inside out.- This book prompts you to take a proactive approach. There is space for you to write in the book, so your thoughts and feelings become literally part of it.------Before being published as a book, this material circulated widely as an e-book. Sample comments from readers:"I am taken by the approach, its simplicity, its directness and invitation to be open to what is rather than what should be." "I thought the concepts were clearly presented, well developed, and the format thoroughly engaging. The flow charts are quite an inventive device, and I liked the logical sequencing that followed after choosing one of the options. (edited by author) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sexual Aversion, Sexual Phobias And Panic Disorders
Sexual avoidance disorders are the primary complaint of many patients seeking help for sexual dificulties and have been recommended as a new diagnostic entity in DSM-III-R under the category Disorders of Sexual Desire.

Now, Helen Singer Kaplan, author of the widely used volumes, The New Sex Therapy and Disorders of Sexual Desire has written a pioneering book that provides the first integration of brief psychodynamic therapy with antipanic medication. She demonstraties that both psychotherapy and medication have valuable but entirely distinct functions in the treatment of these sexual disorders and both are needed to help patients with drug-responsive sexual anxiety.

Sexual Aversion, Sexual Phobias And Panic Disorders provides a detaied guide to the diagnosis and treatment of these disorders. It first describes the clinical features of the sexual avoidance syndromes and panic disorder. Then a pluralistic concept of the etiology of sexual phobias is presented, stressing the interplay between the patients biological vulnerability and the efects of cultural, neurotic, and relationship stresses.

Following is an unusually valuable chapter on Sexual Disorders and Medication written by Donald F. Klein, M.D., one of the country's foremost experts in psychopharmacology. He discusses the appropriate prescription of medication following the careful differential diagnosis of anxious and depressive states in patients complaining of sexual disorders.

Succeeding chapters cover an integrated approach to treatment that combines medication with brief psychodynamic therapy; conjoint sex therapy with couples who have problems related to their separation anxiety and rejection sensitvity; and some hypotheses about drugs and the psychodynamic process.

Throughout the volume, detailed cse studies make clear the diagnosis and treatment of patients with sexual avoidance syndromes.

Sexual Aversion, Sexual Phobias And Panic Disorders is an indispensible volume for all physicians and couples, and familes with sexual problems.

Product Description
If you are preparing to apply to colleges and universities in the United States-you need this book!

College is one of the most expensive investment students will make. Therefore, helping students find "the right college" for them not only makes for happy students, but helps parents feel more confident about the result. College is not only a big decision that students have to make, but it is also the foundation of their future success.

Students and parents are discovering that schools that a few years ago were considered second- and even third-tier schools have elevated their standards significantly. With substantially more students applying, and in some cases fewer spots available, for the select colleges across the country, schools are demanding higher grades and have higher test score criteria, which seemingly place college out of reach.

The applicant pool changes annually, thus nothing is carved in stone as to which students are accepted and which are not. However, the best chance of getting in to the school of your choice is to display your passion as to where you are headed in life, starting in 9th grade.

High school seniors and college transfer students know how difficult it is to get into the top-tier colleges today. Creating a persuasive, eye-catching application requires creativity, foresight, and a marketable presentation as to what you can offer that will attract schools. That is why the process has to start with a resume.

The student applying to college today must show schools why they are different from every other student applying. If you showcase your abilities through the development of a talented resume and a strong essay, admissions committees will have no choice but to fall in love with you!

Students must figure out how best to present themselves to admissions committees; difficulties arise when students begin feeling anxiety, their parents begin applying real or perceived pressure, and the student crumbles.

The Applica-phobia of College Admissions: Why "Getting in" Starts With Your Resume is a how-to guide for students navigating the "Applica-phobia" of the application process. Oftentimes students don't know where to start, and the entire experience becomes overwhelming. This book offers a program that assists students by mapping out the plan that will best suit them.

The book addresses how to explore your talents, skills, and aspirations-to create a picture of who you are; how to identify the schools that are right for you; how to determine which type of application to submit (early action vs. early decision, binding vs. non-binding); exercises to help determine what you can bring to a college or university that will create interest; ideas for essay topics, a step-by-step guide to writing a college application essay, and sample essays to get your creative juices flowing; techniques you can use in the interview to convince admissions committees you are the right candidate for their schools; how to put your summers and out-of-school time to beneficial use (with internships, jobs and/or community service); and more.Students who fall under The DREAM Act and Student Adjustment Act will have an opportunity to understand this favorable bi-partisan legislation and the benefits it offers them and their communities. This section also includes a listing of various grants, loans, and scholarships for which students can apply.

Colleges and universities across America have one goal: to get the best students that "fit" within their ideals, thoughts, and personality. Your job is to figure out what those components are and how you fit in-and this book will help you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes perfect sense
Dr. Harold Levinson really points out how there is some clear connection to how the triggers to anxiety and panic are related to the ear scrambling messages before the brain receives them give the feedback from the brain that you should be scared, or start to worry about the given situations. I myself mainly picked this book up when my anxiety came back for the second time. I was anxiety free for 2 years and then again one day it hit me and I was floored much like the last time. I ordered this book, read it, and tried to follow the procedures with my doctor but he wouldn't listen and just fed me Zoloft. Which I took, but I just now weened myself off of that horrible medication. I am not depressed I told him, just worrying over things that really should have no concern to me. This book is very positive in a way that you find out there are doctors out there that don't want to just feed you an SSRI because it mysteriously treats anxiety/panic attacks. They are trying to find a root cause. My opinion is by this book, keep a positive attitude and you will overcome the anxiety and fear, just make sure the doctor agrees to walk through the test in the back of the book with you.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Worth the Money
This book was ok but it contain very little useful information. I wouldn't suggest you get your hopes up when buying this book. The author does not discuss any physical problems, only phobias & panic. I expected to find information like pain in your ears, or physical symptoms of some kind. NADA, nothing. He suggests OTC meds but doesn't explain what to take & when or how. I know you need a Dr's advice but anyone with anxiety or panic knows that a DR is not going to listen to other suggestions for anxiety treatment.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most important book on phobias and their treatment.
A lot of people suffer -- and I do mean suffer -- from one or more phobias, and a lot of techniques are offered by various therapists to treat phobias. Unfortunately, while some of these treatments may reduce phobic symptoms somewhat, relatively few phobics are actually cured. In this excellent book, Dr. Harold Levinson explains the reasons for this situation. One is that there are three different types of phobias, a fact not generally recognized. About 5% or so of phobias are caused primarily by a neurotic condition of some sort. These phobias often respond to conventional psychotherapy whereas most phobias do not. Another 5% or so of phobias are caused by a severe trauma, such as being bitten by a dog or being in a plane that almost crashes. These phobias are often helped by desensitization therapy. But if phobias that are caused primarily by neurosis or trauma account for only about 10% of all phobias, what is the primary cause of the other 90%? Dr. Levinson's brilliant discovery is that the root cause of most phobias is a disorder of the cerebellar-vestibular sustem, called in lay terminology "the inner ear." Dr. Levinson also found that inner ear disorders are the primary cause of dyslexia and that there is a very high correlation between dyslexia and phobias. About 90% of people who are phobic or dyslexic are both phobic and dylexic. Fortunately, Dr. Levinson has found that about 80% of cases of both phobias and dyslexia respond to at least one of the inner ear medications currently available, including dramamine, scopolamine, and Benadryl. Inner ear disorders are relatively easy for trained audiologists to detect and verify by the battery of tests available to them, but they seldom are detected by routine examinations made by general practitioners or even ear, nose, and throat specialists. If you suffer from phobias and/or dyslexia -- as I do -- please read this book with an open mind. It may literally change your life for the better. In my case, thorough audiological testing -- as described in this book -- revealed that I do indeed have an inner ear disorder which was not detected by routine examinations. Based on this finding, my physician tried the inner ear medications listed by Dr. Levinson and found one that has given me significant relief. Therefore, I am recommending this book from personal experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for those suffering from OCD and Phobias
This is beneficial information for those suffering from OCD.Dr. Levinson's theory has led to my complete recovery. His theory attributes the disorder to a "medical" condition of the inner-ear called a cerebellar-vestibular dysfunction and is easily treated and corrected with a combination of antihistamines, antimotion-sickness, and antianxiety medications that he prescribes.Soon after starting the medication, the disorder was gone.Calmness and total control were shortly established.Prior to this were many months of unsuccessful behavioral therapy treatment with no relief occuring.Dr. Levinson's treatment doesn't just give some relief from OCD, it rids it!His book "Phobia Free" is extremely helpful and describes in depth how the cv-dysfunction is related to all anxiety. It describes why obsessive thoughts occur and how they are thoughts that are just not being properly filtered. The title of this book, "Phobia Free," is truly ! ! a perfect description of how an OCD sufferer feels after being treated by Dr. Levinson for this "medical" condition called the cv-dysfunction. ... Renowned anthologist Donald R. Gallo calls on eleven top authors to explore what happens when fear takes on a mind of its own.

Everyone is afraid of something. But for those who have phobias, that fear is exaggerated and their reactions are extreme: the heart races, sweat beads up on skin, the eyes narrow, and the throat tightens. The ten stories in this fascinating anthology all present people with debilitating
anxiety — from Alex Flinn's gripping psychological portrait of a teen with agoraphobia to David Lubar's humorous tale of a boy faced with dread incarnate in the form of his girlfriend's cat. Whether the trigger is clowns, knives, string, or crossing the street, the characters in these riveting stories confront, are confronted by, and, in some cases, ultimately succeed in overcoming their worst fears. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This book saved my life
I used to crawl on my hands and knees to the restroom because I was afraid to stand up. I had severe panic attacks and anxiety and was a literal basketcase.

I ran across this title in a book of home health remedies I was reading. The article said "Blame it on your ears." I had noticed a "full feeling" in my ears that coincided with the onset of this and something clicked. I wrote down the title (Phobia Free)and the name of the man I credit with saving my life, Dr. Harold N. Levinson.

I told my Doctor about the book and my symptoms and she prescribed the first medication listed in the book, Anti-vert (meclizine). 45 minutes after a took the first pill, my anxiety simply vanished!! I hadn't felt that good in over a year.I was normal again!

I haven't had a panic attack since I started taking the medication and it has been 14 years. The medication my Dr. prescribed is targeted specifically at the inner ear which lends serious credibilty to Levinson and his work in this area.

This book is full of case histories of both phobics and panic patients and is written in a manner that is understandable to anyone who decides to read it.

Also, I recently obtained an official diagnosis of an actual inner ear disorder known as endolymphatic hydrops just to confirm what I knew to be true from reading Levinsons work. If you are phobic this book will change your life!
