5-0 out of 5 stars healing psoriasis
Worthwhile book.I appreciate ordering
from the internet & having book delivered
to my mailbox.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful.
For two months, I followed the regimen very strictly.I also added vinyasa yoga (3x/wk) and uvb phototherapy (2x/wk).I read that narrowband uvb is best; however, due to costs/insurance, I was only able to get broadband uvb and at 2x/wk. To supplement that, I made sure I got an additional day per week of tanning in the sun (no more than 40 min). This is actual sunshine; tanning booths scare me. I also used a prescription steroid/vitD combo ointment maybe 1-2x/wk and dead-sea salt baths 1-2x/wk. In two months time, my p reduced 50% and I dropped a size.I was getting compliments on how "healthy" I was looking. The whites of my eyes also began to look, well, white, as they should be, and my skin was clear and glowing.I was on a very good road.A life event happened that caused a lot of stress for me, which made me start to eat crappy food again and reduce yoga to maybe 1x/wk.I also started drinking again, and although I only go out maybe 2x/week, 2-3 drinks each time was not good.Major flare-up.The only constant was the uvb phototherapy, which although I think kept the flare-up from getting too out of control somewhat, cannot fix the p on its own.THE REGIMEN IN HEALING PSORIASIS WORKS. I don't know if it's a cure, but after a month of straying and seeing its negative impact, I am a believer and am getting back in that saddle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Healing Psoriasis: The Natural Alernative
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RVU96I9G5Q30U Here is an interview with Dr. John Pagano, author of Healing Psoriasis The Natural Alternative. It is the first of 6 parts - all of which can be found on youtube, search for "Dr. Pagano Speaking Holistically." In this 1 hour interview Dr. Pagano discusses his books and his treatment for psoriasis, based on the Edgar Cayce readings. He starts off speaking about Cayce & blindness in part 1. The rest of the interview delves into his treatment for psoriasis, including the diet, and before & after photos.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Information, some disagreements with nutrition
This book provides a wealth of information for the patient new to psoriasis. With the lack of help most conventional doctors give you when they prescribe topical steroids, one needs a book like this to provide alternative theories and supportive advice. Well written for the non-medical reader, and upon cleansing, psoriasis is certainly improving.

However, there are some tiny disagreements I have in terms of internal cleansing in general, that this author seems be pretty main stream on. These include: skim milk products, coffee and sugar. In other cleanse books I've read (See Ann Louis Gittleman for great information on cleansing environmental toxins), uncultured dairy, caffeine and sugar are to be avoided completely. Pagano hesitates to make this clear amongst all of the other dietary restrictions (maybe so he doesn't scare anyone away from trying the cleanse). Perhaps they do not inflame psoriasis, but they certainly don't help along the digestive or filtration process. I'm not a nutritionist, but this is one issue I had with "healing psoriasis". Otherwise, a recommendation.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good and necessary reference!
After years and years without any outbreaks, last winter I found myself suffering from one of the worst outbreaks of my life. I had it bad over both lower legs, one knee, part of one arm, patches here and there on my body, and both elbows. I don't have any idea what precipitated it, and I was at a loss as to what to do outside the normal ointments, lotions, etc... I read the book Healing Psoriasis, and only implemented the use of witch hazel, After about 1 month of use, 1 month off, and some FL sunshine, I'm almost free of any indication of psoriasis - other than the redness which subsides after awhile. I'd also used an Rx before starting the witch hazel, but not once I started the witch hazel. I don't know if it was the witch hazel or shear dumb luck, but whatever it was, I'll take it!

I think "Healing Psoriasis" is a good book, one well worth reading if you suffer from psoriasis. Before this, I found that the antidepressant, Cymbalta, worked really well at keeping my psoriasis at bay - even though it didn't do diddly for pain - which is what it was prescribed for. I had psoriasis so bad this time my doctor wanted me to go on a biological, even though there were good reasons why I shouldn't. I vehemently opposed, even though he was really pushing me, and it wasn't until the dermatologist agreed with me that he let up. Just goes to show there are alternatives, and dangerous medicine doesn't always need to be employeed. "Healing Psoriasis" offers good alternatives to those dangerous drugs which completely knock out the immune system. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Really a Miracle guide
I had psoriasis for last 15 years and I was on steroid. During pregnancy and after I had my baby I was advised not to use steroids. So, my psoriasis was at its worst. Then fortunately I found this book. I would say it's a miracle pill for me. After I read the book, I changed my diet. The big no nos in the book were my staple before. After following the diet as mentioned in the book, I saw results in two weeks. Of course my psoriasis was only 1% of the body area. My skin started looking smoother and itchiness reduced by almost 80%. I strongly reccommend this book to others. I wish I read this book earlier.

Thanks to Deidre for writing this book that can alter lives of millions suffering from this incurable disease. This definitely altered my life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Your Healing Diet: A Quick Guide to Reversing Psoriasis and Chronic Diseases with Healing Foods
I'm 58 and have had psoriasis for 50 years. I had been to numerous doctors and all the creams and ointments didn't work. The injections did but with terrible side effects. In looking on the internet I found an article by Deirdre Earls and I ordered her book. That was last May. I've lost 30 pounds and my psoriasis is 95% cleared up. This is the first time in years I can shave my legs without my tub looking like a crime scene. I want to yell to those doctors, "read Deirdre Earls' book". I would never have thought diet would make that much difference. I haven't had meat or fried foods in a year and don't even miss them. I've enjoyed trying new things. I'm so glad to have found this book. If you have psoriasis please try it - you won't be sorry.

1-0 out of 5 stars a rather poor excuse of a book
'The Psoriasis Cure' by Lisa LeVan has many faults. For starters, its title is most unfortunate.Like most autoimmune diseases, psoriasis is incurable. One can treat it and become potentially 100% clear of symptoms but once treatment stops the symptoms almost always returns. In addition, Lisa LeVan is obviously not a medical researcher or medical doctor. The basis of much of what she writes about is her own personal experience (having psoriasis). But this hardly makes one an expert, nor is it prudent to take the "if it works for me it will definitely work for you" attitude.Lastly, her "cure" includes taking about 25 different vitamins, minerals and supplements ... indefinitely. We are talking about some 50 pills/capsules per day.In my opinion this represents a glorious waste of money.

Although imperfect, John Pagano's "Healing Psoriasis:.." is a much more sensible approach. That book should be required reading for all psoriasis suffers.

Bottom line: a very unhelpful book bound to discourage psoriasis sufferers.Best avoided.

1-0 out of 5 stars Visit the [...] website before purchasing
Not impressed and got nothing out of the book. One can visit the psoriasis organization for more "valid" information or from a good dermatologist. One can also visit the Mayo Clinic and review if there is any substantiation to what she recommends regarding primrose or alternative medicine. They rate the "alternative" medicines.Think I will trust the Mayo Clinic and WebMd before trusting her and a few courses at college, as this is all she has. Her book is full of "may also have some potentially serious side effects", or "it was reported that a patient"."other side effects that "may" occur with treatment".
Telling everyone Psoriasis is curable needs to be told to all the medical research in place or the dermatologists that treat it. Why hasn't she been able to convince medical research? How come her cure has not been announced?

She alludes to the fact that physicians are not fallible, basically bad mouthing them from a death in her own family. My health is my responsibility.Doctors are not perfect nor is medicine an exact science. You seek a second opinion, or a third if necessary. Not impressed and basically already know a healthy diet, exercise and stress relief can help any problem.Don't waste your money.

2-0 out of 5 stars A "feel good" book lacking real answers.
This book is great at detailing the emotional aspect of psoriasis, but fails miserably when it comes to treatment options. Calling it "A Patient's Guide to Treatment" is misleading. If you are having problems handling psoriasis emotionally, this is the book for you. If you are looking for concrete medical information, The Handbook of Psoriasis by Charles Camisa would suit you better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Booklist:"Author Speaks Wisely..."
Psoriasis is an unpleasant, disfiguring disease, whose sufferers often hide away from life or are pushed away. Its cause is unknown, and there is no cure.It can affect people of all ages, and sufferers can die from the disease or the complications of treatment.Cram has long dealt with psoriasis patients and understands current knowledge of it and how patients and others react to it.

Stress doesn't cause it, yet reducing stress often can help in managing it, and psychological scars are usually the main problem associated with it.Cram speaks wisely about those matters, drawing on stores of his patients to show how such scars may affect all aspects of life and how they can be handled effectively.

Many HMOs will not pay for adequate care, so Cram's advice on finding a doctor is important. In addition, he describes various treatment methods, speaking especially well of psoriasis day-care centers. Self-acceptance is the major goal, he says.-William Beatty--Booklist, Sept. 15, 2000 ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars it's interesting
basically, i'm writing this review to express outrage at the used prices people are asking (over $200)!i bought the book at cover cost, $32.it's okay.unfortunately i'm not a disciplined person, so the diet hasn't worked for me because i didn't follow it.the recipes are pretty bland and limited.saying that, i believe that's the theory behind the diet.but is the book worth the ridiculous high costs?no way no how.i hope these thieves don't sell a copy.there is another recipe book out there and i would search the net for recipes.sorry, but i'm sick and tired of people ripping others off, especially when it comes to health issues.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cured me
I read the book, followed the advice and had a MAJOR outbreak clear in about 3-4 months.

I had immediate benefits within the first few days as the psoriasis sores were lest inflammed and then slowly began to fade until 99% gone within 4 months.

I drank tea, took hot Epsom salt baths a few times per week.Pretty near eliminated alcohol and nightshade vegetables.I went to my naturopathic doctor and got a few other supplements as well.I started taking fish oil, fiber and a good multi-vitamin daily.I also reduced the amount of white bread and flour I consumed.

In the 4 months I went from 205Lbs to my HS weight of 185Lbs.My blood presure went from borderline high to IDEAL.

I wish I would have stayed on the diet because I have regained the weight and blood presure although the psoriasis remains cleared after almost 3 years.

You are what you eat.We have such crappy diets in America and we wonder why we get sick?If you fed your plants or pets the kind of corporate food products most of us eat, they'd be unhealthy as well.We just don't make the connection until you get an illness.

This book provides a simple way to heal yourself.I highly recommend it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-read for people with psoriasis
Simply put, if you have psoriasis, be sure to read this book.Even though there's currently no reliable cure for psoriasis, knowledge is still power in this situation, and this book provides plenty of useful knowledge.

The authors are two dermatologists with strong qualifications, and the book addresses all major facets of psoriasis, including basic biology, types of psoriasis, comorbidities (eg, psoriatic arthritis), epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment options (including the latest "biologic" treatments), and psychosocial considerations. To my surprise, there's even some discussion of CAM treatments.

The book is written for patients rather than physicians, so some people (like me) will wish there was more technical detail, but the book still covers plenty of ground and should meet the needs of the vast majority of patients. While the question/answer format causes some repetition in the information presented, it also makes the book quite easy to read, so I think the format works well overall. Moreover, the writing is clear and finds a good balance between technical jargon (with definitions for all key terms) and ordinary language.

A book like this can't be summarized, but I do want to draw attention to the following from page 11, keeping in mind that the general rate of psoriasis in the population is about 2% or 3%: "When one twin has psoriasis, the chance of the second twin being diagnosed was 58% in one study, based on 141 sets of twins. If a sibling has psoriasis, the chance of another sibling developing the disease is lower, around 6%.When one parent has psoriasis, the chance of a child acquiring the disease is below 20%, but if both parents have psoriasis the chance increases to 65%."The downside of these striking findings is that psoriasis clearly has a strong genetic component, but the more important upside is that psoriasis also has a very large environmental component, which means one can likely do a lot to control psoriasis (as clinical experience attests), and therein lies hope.

Again, I highly recommend this book to all psoriasis patients. At the very least, reading it will give you a better sense of your options and will enable you to have more productive discussions with your doctors. ... Read more

Product Description
This is a book for the determined, not for the quick fix crowd. A clear understanding of the underlying causes of psoriasis is presented, one that flies in the face of current drug-oriented treatments, nevertheless one that recognizes the causes and alleviation of psoriasis that have been known for decades. Leading edge strategies are also revealed, and resources are listed. The book is blunt, and does not coddle the reader. Rather, it requires participation if the reader is to be healed of the condition, and very specific solutions are offered in a comprehensive plan of action. Uniquely, the author offers his personal help when readers are registered through links that are provided in the book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It works!!
My psoriasis began with a small itchy spot on the back of my head. For several years it would come and go.Then the summer of 2005 it suddenly covered my entire head in a matter of a month. What misery! It itched so at times I could hardly stand it and a good night's sleep became a thing of the past.I went to a dermatologist and he pronounced my fate. No cure. But I could wet my hair each night before I went to bed, put on the "junk" he prescribed, and cover all with a shower cap. That should help. Yeah, sure.Try sleeping with that clammy mess and your head still itching like the dickens. So I checked the internet, found this book by Jerry G. Scott and began to apply his recommendations, which is mainly a change in diet.Within a month the psoriasis was gone and did not return for nearly three years. Then one day a new little spot appeared at the back of my head. I had eased off following the diet, but still, except for rare occassions, had refrained from drinking colas of any kind and only indulged moderately in peppers, tomatoes, white potatoes, and a few other forbiddens foods.I went back on the diet and that little spot disappeared. If I know of someone who has psoriasis, I tell them about this book. Today, seeing it in my bookcase, it occurred to me to do a review, even though I've had the book since 2005. My advice is to try it.It can't hurt you.I'm certainly glad I did. Eunice Boeve, author of Ride a Shadowed Trail

5-0 out of 5 stars Psoriasis: The Real Way Out
Loaded with information that your doctors won't discuss, even when asked. Have blazed right through this book and now I'm going back over it taking notes and planning MY way out. Outstanding!

3-0 out of 5 stars Very Mediocre Book, but better than perscription medicine
If you are looking at this book review, you probably suffer from psoriasis, like I used to. Buying this book was one of MANY steps it took to clear up my condition. This book explains some VERY important concepts, but the knowledge itelf will not clear up your skin. The author is clearly NOT a doctor, which while it hurts the validity of the text, retroactively makes it easy to understand. I have seen skin care professionals who knew less about psoriasis than the author, however. To clear my skin, I used the concepts from this book and did a lot of other research on the internet and through doctors and naturopaths to come up with this recipe for clear skin:
1. Drink 16+ cups of water per day
2. Take 'Psorizide Ultra' homeopathic drug with nickel. Side affects are nil, drug is safe.
3. Take 'Primal Defense' (a pill,) which helps line your stomach with healthy bacteria so you can process food better and toxins don't leak out of your intestinal lining and affect your skin (this is explained in the book.)
4. Tan in both regular sun and in tanning beds twice per week.
5. Stay away from certain foods especially saturated fats. This helps many other problems as well.

So this is not a perfect book, but was an important research tool in finding a method for me to cure myself of my case of psoriasis. You must research your own case because everybodies body is different, and that's why doctors have a hard time finding out why you are breaking out. Also, shelling out 20 bucks for this book is less than a fraction of the cost of one visit to a dermatologist and will yield you much better results than the standard answer for psoriasis which is: "Take this and see if it works. No? Okay try this."

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent primer on self-healing
For eleven years, I have had severe psoriasis (76% PASI - if you have it, you know what this means) and moderate (sometimes severe) psoriatic arthritis.Aside from working with my physician, I regularly read books and do research on the treatment of psoriasis.I methodically try different therapies to try to help myself. This was just another book on my list this year, but has been the most valuable in my collection. This is one of the few psoriasis books that was not written by a designated expert of some kind, but rather someone who was sick like me.I have been quite strict in following the book's psoriasis healing recommendations for almost two months now.I have only recently begun to experience signs of improvement. The flare-ups are noticeably less severe and I have cleared several long time trouble spots.I am not completely clear and that is to be expected, but I am continuing with the methods and have no doubt that further improvements will follow. What is surprising is that my overall health has improved significantly - I have lost over 32 lbs and blood pressure has returned to normal levels without medication.I feel better in general. Please try it yourself but be patient. The method in the book is a lifestyle commitment. It's not easy, but if you have it as bad as I did, you will have the discipline to do it.I have spent 11 years trying to do quick fixes with various drugs that have worked with some degree of success in the short-term, but invariably are not long-term solutions because of bad side-effects or expense. As I said in my review title, this book was a gateway to the world of self-healing.This book has introduced me to a whole new way of thinking about personal health care.I have taken responsibility for my health. This book shows you how.No one cares about your health as much as yourself.Good luck.DON'T EVER GIVE UP.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dont care if the book is well writen, what matters, is cure
If the book delivers what it promissed, i.e. natural cure from Psoriasis, no matter what the descipline that needs to be followed is, that deserve 5 stars. I dont agree with the above comments. I dont care if the book is well presented, will writen, full of anecktodes, what really matters, is to get a begining of a cure from that deseas.
I am buying the book from Amazon now, will keep you informed when reading it, if things have improved. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy This ...unless you want another Eat For Your Blood Type book!
I should have noticed there were no reviews for this book and NOT bought it.It will make a great doggie chew toy.If I wanted a list of 'foods to eat according to my blood type' book, I would have bought one.I feel this book is just a way to rake in $17.00 for paperback and $36.00 for hardcover. It is a waste of money and I wish I could get mine back!It contains lists of foods for each blood type a, ab, b, and o (that's it).Helpful for some, but not for me.I wish they had NO Stars for the rating! ... Product Description

In the past decade it has become increasingly clear that psoriatic disease, both of the skin and joints, can be a significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenge for the physician and a debilitating illness for the patient. At the same time, advances in genetics and immunology have increased our understanding of the pathophysiology of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. This text contains a comprehensive discussion from an international group of experts in psoriatic disease of the pathomechanisms, genetics, diagnosis, and treatment of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. The information is presented in parallel in order to emphasize the similarities and differences of these two diseases that so commonly occur together. We believe that this approach will make this text an important resource for all practitioners who treat patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.

Product Description
Separating truth from myth can be hard when it comes to skin problems.

Apart from medical advice, there seems to be a puzzling array of creams and potions, herbal remedies and alternative treatments. Understanding Skin Problems helps sufferers maximise the benefits of advice, from whatever source, so that they can learn to live with their condition more easily.

Written from a psychological perspective, Linda Papadopoulos and Carl Walker show that, although seldom life-threatening, skin diseases can be very distressing for both sufferers and their families. As a source of information or just as general interest, this handy guide will help you to understand the importance of the mind-body connection, and how it can help in dermatology. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars VERY EASE READING AND A LOT OF HELPFULL
IS GREAT TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLORE THE PSHYCOLOGICAL ASPECT OF THE SKIN DISEASE. YOU CAN ENTER THE MIND OF THE ILLNESS TROUGH THIS READING.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bravo!
A stunning text that delivers the scientific insight expected from a Dr Walker publication. The revelation here though, and in essence what separates this book from others, is the development of the scientist (and one time 'enfant terrible' of Psychology!) as a story teller. One hesitates to use the word genius - a term all too frequently applied in these celebrity obsessed times - but history will certainly look upon this title very favourably.

If you only read one dermatology self help book this year, then make sure that it's this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast paced, exiting, heart stopping page turning book
I read this book within a matter of days, it's perfect for the beach or if your pennies don't stretch that far then you should read it with a box of chocolates and a glass of wine within easy reach. You will not be able to think about anything else until you have finished it, and even then thoughts will keep popping into your head.

About the best book Dr Walker has ever written. This will always be his classic masterpiece, his epitaph even.
