From the supplier: RespiGam, a respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) immune globulin, appears effective in preventing or minimizing the severity of RSV infection in premature infants and infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia. In one study, RespiGam reduced RSV lower respiratory tract infections by 62% and moderate or severe RSV infections by 72% when compared with those in a control group. Side effects include fever, headache, and nausea, in addition to wheezing or respiratory distress in a small number of patients. RespiGam is administered intravenously, and is quite expensive.

Product Description
Abstract: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the most common cause of lower respiratory tract disease in young children, including infants. Its role in respiratory disease in elderly patients is less well understood. Mathematical models of the estimated adult disease burden indicate that about 10,000 deaths each year in persons >65 years of age in the United States may be due to RSV. The development of vaccines and antiviral treatments against RSV may be important, but the epidemiology and health effects of RSV infection in adulthood must first be better defined. ... Read more
