Saying No to Naked Women
How one man conquered sexual addiction and porn values
The anti-pornography novel by David R. Yale
Unlocks invisible behavior patterns you must understand to solve personal problems

Jack Derritt doesn't realize he's running away from his troubleswhen he builds a shack in the Ozark mountain backwoods. But even in the forest, he can't escape the unpleasant truth: he feels like a kid, not a man, he hasn't found his ideal woman, and when he tries to daydream about her, his head fills with pornographic images he despises.

When a magical mentor appears at his shack, Jack begins to explore the causes of his problems. With his mentor's help, he solves the riddle that has kept him from truly understanding people of all kinds -- and finds the love of his life and the healthy relationship he's always wanted. You will discover how Jack:
* Learns to accept and enjoy people who are different from him,
* Conquers crippling guilt,
* Forgives his parents - and opens the hidden door to love,
* Turns despair into hope and confidence,
* Changes himself from a "kid" into a man.

A heartfelt and richly rewarding story that will leave you breathless with its insights into personal growth and happiness.

This is the novel that unlocks invisible behavior patterns you must understand to solve personal troubles and identify problem people.

"Saying No's strength lies in its warmth and in its insistence that people's limitations don't cancel out their goodness."

5-0 out of 5 stars A positive message in the form of a good novel
It's hard to resist something that your body wants with every fiber of its being. "Saying No to Naked Women" is David R. Yale's self-help manual against porn addiction in novel form. As Jack tries to escape from his porn addiction by sealing himself from the world, he learns that he can't run, and finds a better way to overcome his addiction and embrace others as human beings. Of interest to those dealing with such problems themselves or those who feel they are running from life, "Saying No to Naked Women" is a positive message in the form of a good novel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Therapeutic Healing Journey
" SayingNo to Naked Women" is an absorbing, beautifully written novel about finding one's authentic self. Author, David R. Yale, creates a wonderfully drawn character in the protagonist, Jack Derritt. Jack is an everyman of sorts, struggling with his painful past to finally and happily become his "own authority."

This novel not only takes us along on Jack's journey to the Ozarks, filled with Yale's colorfully written folks and out of the way places, far from Jack's New York roots, but more importantly Yale seamlessly and entertainingly, guides the reader through the real story of Jack's inward journey tobecome whole. In the Ozark's of all places, Yale has Jack learn to calm the voices of his unresolved past, come to grips with the internal obstacles that prevent him from accepting himself and others, to finally become whole, move forward and realize his dreams.

"Saying No To Naked Women" is wonderful tale of self-discovery, self- acceptance and ultimately self-fulfillment.Jack's journey is a great metaphor for the therapeutic process. A beautiful read that becomes a how-to manual of how good therapy can help us all become whole and happy. I loved Jack and his journey! I'll be recommending this book to my friends as well as my clients

5-0 out of 5 stars If at first you don't get it, keep reading.....
At first, I was a little disconcerted. It's not that the story wasn't engaging, but I kept wondering how the story was going to connect to a man with porn values and lead into his transformation through psychotherapy (as the back of the book suggested). I felt a little frustrated and almost gave up - sorry,I'm being brutally honest.

But, I'm very glad I hung in there. Now I see how the author was setting up the reader with the backstory so that the reader could understand how Jack got to where he was.

As a psychotherapist, I found the last two-thirds of the book to be quite engaging.

What a unique way to spread the benefits of psychotherapy! The book helped me understand myself better, and allowed me to incorporate Jack's emotional healing into my own. That being said, I had done a lot of my own emotional work prior to reading this book, and was fascinated to see how much of Jack's journey mirrored my own.

I found myself discussing the book with several of my clients. Just today, one client in particular, jotted the title of the book down. He said he would go right out to Barnes and Noble to order it. He is someone who grew up with deficits in the emotional intimacy department, and is wondering why he picked the partner he did.

I will gladly pass this book on to my colleagues and future clients, and wish Dr. Yale great success. Perhaps, some nervous soul, who would not otherwise consider therapy, will pick up your novel and find some direction.

A Review of SAYING NO TO NAKED WOMEN: A NOVEL
By David Yale
MA: Healthy Relationship Press (2008)

David Yale has produced a finely woven tapestry, deceptive in its simplicity and profound in its message. It is work that succeeds at many levels.First, it is an excellent novel.Yale's alter ego, Jack Derritt is a gifted but troubled "Jewish boy from New York City."In an effort to escape his demons, Jack's adult search for himself leads him to a small town in the Ozarks. As he comes to know, understand, learn from and love the people he meets, themselves tough nuts to crack, Jack's life, and theirs, begin to change-slowly, subtly, reluctantly, and powerfully. We are treated to a lively, tender love story.
Then, with a sudden, subtle turn, all the while caught up in the adventure, we find ourselves no longer simply enjoying life in the Ozarks, but discover that we are walking into the human struggle to grow and change, to name our "demons" and discover our "angels," within and around us.With the groundwork ofcommunity having been laid, Jack is ready for battle. When he meets and begins to wrestle, and dance, with God, in the guise of a mesugah Rabbi from New York, Jack enters into a life and death struggle with himself. With Jack, we are drawn into the conversion of heart that allows our spirit to go free.
David Yale is a genius and this book is a work of art.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read
This book is a must read for anyone facing their wounds and in desperate need of healing (relating to sex addiction or not). After reading several books related to sexual addiction I can say with certainty this is the best and most comprehensive book.I have since purchased several more copies to pass along to those in need of its wisdom; be it therapists, church leaders, spouses/partners of addicts, or addicts.

This edition includes an additional chapter (Chapter 8: Fitting All the Pieces Together, by Pastor Harry Flanagan) to answer the question, "How does this practically work in a small group or in a church setting?"

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful book on the topic
This is a GREAT book on the topic and well worth your time. Get it, read it and benefit from it. That's an order son! I have begun to give copies away now...

5-0 out of 5 stars Pure Desire
The information in this book is clearly and insightfully presented. As with any book that "hits the target" for what Gods desire is for us, it can be applied to other areas of our lives as well.
I would recommend this book to any one who desires a clearer view of Gods love towards us and the restored relationship He wants for us. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books I've read on purity!
I really like this book but I would not recommend reading it alone.I'm part of a women's purity group that uses this book and though we have different backgrounds, this book has helped each one of us dig deeper into our hearts. We read a chapter a week (generally) and meet every week to discuss the questions.I would suggest that everyone come with answers prepared since a lot of the work is done individually but our hearts can get exposed and encouraged in the group.Really really great book!Though written mainly for men, many women can benefit too. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Prayer and abstinence is NOT therapy...
I expected much different from this book.

With one or two exceptions, the "extreme cases" cited, described in vague terms rather that presented with detailed information, sound no worse that the escapades of the average american male. Most of the cases sounded like women your grandmother would have called "permiscuous".

On the other end of the spectrum, the author appears to be condemning ANY woman for ANY attempt to explore her sexuallity outside the bonds of marriage and the missonary position. God forbid she should even find pleasure in her experiences!

While there were some statistics included concerning the habits and tendencies of women with "sexual addictions", there seems to be very little offered in the way of specific issues or accepted methods of therapy.

Nowhere did I find any scientific description of what constitutes an "addiction". Nor was there any specific outline that would definitively answer the question of what constitutes a "sexual addiction."

The author has an ever prevelant bias towards god, religion and prayer. He even goes so far as to recommend PRAYER as a type of therapy to help his patients. Instead of presenting examples of specific theraputic actions or techniques, he recommends prayer and the church as a means of "help". Hardly acceptable clinical methods for controlling any "addiction".

While the modern woman is FINALLY beginning to accept and enjoy her sexuallity to the same degree that men have for centuries, there appears to be underlying themes of "sex is bad", "women should not enjoy it" hidden between the lines of this book. This type of writing could set women's progress with thier sexuality back 50 or 100 years.

This book would be very good propaganda for a catholic nun to use as a means of scaring young school girls away from the "evils of sex".

I found little use for this book. If you are looking for clinical information or any type of true psychological insight, look elsewhere.

If you are wondering if you have a "sexual addiction", do NOT read this book! I'll save you the trouble, per this book, if you are female and sexually active, even if only with yourself, you do!

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding description for Woman's sexual addiction
Dr. Weiss provides an indepth and accurate look at female sexual addiction. There are very few books on the market which target women's sexual addiction. In addition, he goes through what sexual addition forwomen is, and how we (women) react to the concept and the recovery.

Dr.Weiss uses testimony from women sex addicts to provide readers someone inwhich to relate to.

I highly recommend this book even if you just thinkyou might have a problem with sexual addiction. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Many Helpful Strategies
I admire the authors' courage to share the ugly intimacies of their lives in an effort to help others. That's what I like about this workbook. These are real methods that worked for real people. While it's true that a few unconventional approaches are mentioned, the author specifically states that these were among the many approaches that were tried and not tactics for every couple. The basis of the workbook is sound and logical. Clearly, the tone of the book is NOT one of "her love can cure his addiction."Rather, the author's position is that the addict must assume complete responsibility and can take control of his life (with the support of his life partner).I find the relationship building suggestions at the end of the book useful.Because Stone has a MA in education and Darland has a BA in psychology, I think that much of their background comes through in practical behavior management strategies. All in all, this is one of the most useful sex addiction self-help books on the market.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not helpful
The authors do not understand the psychological roots of pornography addiction.Pictures of dead and decomposing women do not un-condition a man who masturbates to pictures and videos.Man have free will and may exercise it as they choose.A woman who is really looking to help her husband should avoid looking to non-professionals (like this author & thier worksheets) who are unfamiliar with the neuropathways of addiction.Additionally, writing a sex story and acting out is part of a co-addict's behavior. You can not get sexier to make your husband ok.You can not be your husband's new porn target and help him overcome porn. The author is caught up in the delusion that her "love" can cure addiction. Can anyone say co-dependance?

It is not something I am or am not doing that makes my husband choose porn.Do not compete for your husband's porn attention!!!Dr. Patrick Carnes can help.Look for his books!

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Healing Guide
This workbook is all about healing your relationship after it has been damaged by pornography. It targets couples, specifically women who are dedicated to helping their partners overcome an addiction to pornography and men who truly want to change (but have not been successful). The practical advice has really been useful in dealing with this issue, and it has opened my eyes to the depths of this problem.Since we could not afford hours of counseling, this has been the next best thing. The activities have opened an intimate dialogue between my partner and me for the first time.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Help
As a couple, we tried many books to help us heal our relationship.Although we are religious people, other books were so saturated with scripture that they were difficult to drudge through (as they seemed to lose focus from the actual problem). This booklet aids in understanding and adjusting behavior through common sense, logic, and reasoning. The authors have clearly given this problem a lot of thought and devotion. This workbook was a great healing tool for us.It gave us a new beginning with a clear plan of action.I can finally envision an end to the fighting, failure, and trust issues.

5-0 out of 5 stars Couple's Guide to Healing
This interactive workbook takes a couple step-by-step through the healing process. After months of agony, this book really helped my husband and I resolve our issues. It opened his eyes to his behavior and how to change, while explaining why it wasn't my fault.I loaned this book to a friend with the same problem in their marriage, and it helped them as well. The 3-day program is very concrete and hands-on.This book is not saturated with religious quotes or filled with a bunch of clinical jargon. It is written to aid everyday people in healing their marriage. Also, this is not designed for individual reading. It is similar to couples counseling, and both parties must participate.I would recommend it to any couple struggling with pornography addiction. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I was extremely disappointed with this book and would not recommend it. It is poorly edited, has inconsistent verbage, and references a non exist support program. It appears the readers that found this book helpful were likely friends of the authors as they are from the same city. This is a painful enough topic to be personally acquainted with and following the advice in this poorly written book may make this difficult journey even harder to navigate should it be followed, in my opinion. I would recommend staying with the experts in this field and do highly recommend the Stefanie Carnes edited book "Mending A Shattered Heart".

Product Description
Empty. Corrupted. Tormented. Starved. These words describe the Christian sex addict. No matter what he (or she) does, he will not experience true freedom from the bondage of sexual addiction until he finds the life, love and acceptance he yearns for. The inner pull to feed at the garbage can of lust must be replaced with something real, alive and lasting... something so wonderful that the short-lived pleasure of sex is nothing in comparison... a love so powerful it overflows even the hardest heart with joy.The Road to Grace begins by providing the reader with the tools needed to break free from the bondage to sexual sin with a straight-forward, Biblical approach. But this is just the beginning of the journey, as gaining true freedom from lust is about much more than learning to control external acts. The Road to Grace delves into the wounds and lies in the heart that block the reader from receiving God's love, and then guides him to the place where he can accept the free gift of the abundant life in Christ that many yearn for but few believe they can have.Topics addressed include:* Biblical methods for overcoming sexual temptation.* Finding healing from shame.* How to stop a masturbation habit.* Facing and dealing with the core issues of the heart that drive sexual addiction.* Healing for sexual abuse and father wound issues.* Understanding and accepting the grace of God in the heart. * Healing for the wives of husbands who are sex addicts. * How to restore a marriage that s been scarred by sexual addiction/adultery. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Pity it is so hard to find!
As a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist, I have been referring people to this book for at least 20 years. EVERYONE I have recommended it to over those years has raved about how good it is. And I agree completely. It does with fairy stories what USES OF ENCHANTMENT did to psychology, but applying it to relationships. It focuses thinking and causes people to confront their fantasies about relationships, moving them toward more genuine and more intimate relationships. Pity it is so hard to find, and at these cheap prices I rather assume it will soon be out of print. Alas! That's why I bought a number of copies to have at my office for clients when they can't find it anymore.Ken McLeod,LCSW, ACSW; Houston, Texas

1-0 out of 5 stars disgusted and appalled
when i first saw the title of "Set Free! True Accounts of Those Who Have Been Liberated from Pornography, Sexual Addiction, Masturbation, Rape, Molestation, Incest, Lesbianism and Homosexuality" I thought it must be tounge-in-cheek. Not so! I am disgusted and appalled that books are still being published which view sex-positivity, masturbation, self-love and queer relationships as things needing rescue, or "liberation" from. That this book becomes suggested to those who are searching for sex positive resources is disturbing - and i protest that amazon would allow such a queerphobic and destructively self righteously narrowminded text to be stocked. ... Excerpt: Gay bathhouses, also known as gay saunas or steam baths, are commercial bathhouses for men to have sex with other men. In gay slang in some regions these venues are also known colloquially as "the baths" or "the tubs." Not all men who visit gay bathhouses consider themselves gay, regardless of their sexual behavior. Bathhouses for women are rare, though some men's bathhouses occasionally have "lesbian" or "women only" nights. Bathhouses vary considerably in size and amenitiesfrom small establishments with 10 or 20 rooms and a handful of lockers to multi-storey saunas with a variety of room styles or sizes and several steam baths, jacuzzi tubs, and sometimes swimming pools. Most have a steam room (or wet sauna), dry sauna, showers, lockers, and small private rooms. Many bathhouses are membership only. Unlike brothels customers pay only for the use of the facilities. Sexual activity, if it occurs, is not provided by staff of the establishment but is between customers, and no money is exchanged. Many gay bathhouses explicitly prohibit or discourage prostitution and ban known prostitutes. Records of men meeting for sex with other men in bathhouses date back to the 15th century. A tradition of public baths dates back to the 6th century BC and there are many ancient records of homosexual activity in Greece. In the West, gay men have been using bathhouses for sex since at least the late 19t...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=484125 ... Read more
