5-0 out of 5 stars A VERY worth while read
This book has much worth while information from the very start. I have a chronic cough, too easily a bronchial problem. This book taught me why. Now I take the cough drop with the high count of menthol, having learned that it doesn't just soothe. Combined with the use of a NeiMed thing to flush my nasal passages, I stayed out of trouble this last time and my cough that's been everpresent is nearly gone completely. If you have occasional or chronic serious trouble, read this. When I had surgery three years ago, the nurse emphasized oxygen so very much, and this book explains why. Breath deep!

Product Description
From Midwest Book Review....

The nose is an organ of the human body that can be afflicted with a number of serious ailments to health. These problems include such conditions as rhinosinusitis, allergic rhinitis, and empty nose syndrome (ENS). It has only been in recent years that physicians have come to understand and treat ENS. But there are still a great many doctors unfamiliar with this syndrome and the treatment options that sufferers have to choose from. An ENS sufferer himself, Christopher Martin has written a comprehensive and thoroughly 'reader-friendly' introduction to what ENS is, what can be done about it, and what to be aware of in various treatment options in "Having Nasal Surgery? Don't You Become An Empty Nose Victim! Christopher relates his own personal account of coping with ENS, offers an informed and informative evaluation of turbinate surgeries with respect to nasal conditions, provides an 'insider' look at the politics surrounding ENS within the medical community, and identifies the best treatments for ENS, many of which are also efficaciously applicable to sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, postnasal drip, GERD, and asthma. Invaluable reading for medical students, physicians, and non-specialist general readers, Having Nasal Surgery? is especially recommended for personal, professional, and community library Health & Medicine reference collections and reading lists.

"Chris is addressing a tremendously important issue in otolaryngology. Empty nose syndrome is a real entity that requires further investigation. Although Chris' book is written for the general public, I truly hope my colleagues in ENT will read this book and take it to heart."

5-0 out of 5 stars Having nosal surgery?Don't be an ENV
This was an extremely informative book that's a must to read before you get the surgery.Unfortunately my son had this surgery before reading the book and is now suffering from ENS.He is now on the journey to re-do what the surgery took out of his nose.So sad this surgery is still being done without informing the patient as to a possible outcome.Having Nasal Surgery? Don't You Become An Empty Nose Victim!

3-0 out of 5 stars OK for ENS patients, but not for others.
If you have ENS this book supplies quite a bit of information. However, I have been thinking about sinus surgery for a congestion problem. I just felt that this book was not geared toward the individual who may be thinking about having surgery as the title seems to suggest, as much as it was about how to handle a botched surgery.

5-0 out of 5 stars Human relations! When I recieved this book I can not tell you how much it meant to have someone relate to me. God Bless You.
I have been suffering for about (5) years now. After loosing my Marriage, jobs (due to sickness) and countless visits to the Doctors I FINALLY found an answer. This book has made me realize that I need to not be in denial anymore and to know that this is not my fault. I suffer from the (2) sinus surgeries I had back in 2000 and 2001. I am allergic to Pollen, Trees, and Animal dander enormously. I am disabled. I am more sick than not. I am still raising my (3) teenagers and have a wonderful man in my life who supports me. I am now on unemployment again and am afraid to go back to work. I am tired of faking that I am OK. I don't get enough air to my brain it feels like and I am tired a lot of the time. I found this book to be so helpful in just that I have someone that is going through the same thing as I. I have found myself in a great depression lately and this was a God send. I would rather have my leg cut off than to live like this. I have faith though. I pray that this book helps others as it has helped me. I wish I would have been told about the side effects of sinus surgery but I did not. Read this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Muchos Importante
This is undoubtly one of the most important issues facing the medical community today. The impact of this book is already far reaching and I am confident we will soon see a real turn-around in the ENT community in regards to these issue.
Point of fact: I just spoke to an Australian ENT, returned from training with the ex-president of the US Facial and Cosmetic Surgery Association who now agrees with the basic principals behind this book and "would not perform a partial inferior turbinate resection on a member of my family." And I was about to let my regular ENT perfom an 80% resection!... until I saw this book.
Get that. There's no denying this. It's real, and I pray for all the poor souls who will be inadvertantly butchered between now and when the new standard finally filters down into the offices of ENTs the world over.
Good luck Chris, and keep up the good work. Don't worry, by 2030 you'll probably have a bionic nose that can shoot lasers so you can go around zapping irresponsible ENTs.
They will call you: The Turbinator.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review from ENS Sufferer
If you are considering any sort of nasal/sinus surgery, you owe it to yourself to read this book first.I don't think there is much general awareness on turbinates and the important functions they provide, which is why many (including myself) get talked into over-aggressive turbinate reductions.

In this book, Chris does an excellent job of covering what your turbinates do, the problems he has experienced, ways to cope, surgical techniques to consider, home remedies and more.I think it should be required reading for all ENT's and Plastic Surgeons that perform turbinectomies.

Aside from the medical information, the book is also well written, and Chris's story is inspirational.Again, I would highly recommend reading this book before considering any nasal surgeries. ... Read more
