I've read quite a few books now to prepare myself for medical school and this one is by far the best.It gives you a good idea of how much a medical student needs to study, good advice on how to make your own schedule, and teaches you how to study. She tells the reader that studying in medical school is a whole different world than the studying done in undergrad. She shows you which techniques to use and which to leave behind in with your college books. Her stratagies make memorizing and understanding loads of information seem doable.Buy this book or learn the hard way.

5-0 out of 5 stars in therapy for over ten years
I had been in therapy, and still am in therapy, for over ten years. I had a very difficult childhood and a lot of the memories stayed with me and controlled my adult life. My therapist had explained PTSD and I thought I understood it well. This book took me further and really gave me some self help measures which I have used and to an extent rely on. Highly Recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars tool for healing,
What do you do when something beyond traumatic happens to you?
In my case,I forgot the whole thing!
But you don't,it's festering in your subconscious.
And then the nightmares came.

To make a long story short,I worked through my traumas with therapy and support groups and I recovered.
This book is one of the tools to be used.
Lots of exercises,excellent resource
Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best PTSD workbook for childhhod abuse.
I have reviewed a number of workbooks on PTSD. This was the best of many for the subject of childhood sexual abuse trauma. The book is very well organized and deals with all issues after the first 2 chapters of work to insure safety and ability to cope with subject matter. Best when used with a therapist to help guide the progression of the work. Each chapter full of simple, effective exercises to undertake towards the goal of a healing future.

4-0 out of 5 stars The PTSD Workbook
I think it is a helpful tool for people who suffer from PTSD like myself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Self-Help Resource
Do you suffer from PTSD or other effects of traumatic events? Are you a therapist who treats trauma survivors? Are you involved in a self-help group for trauma victims? This book will help trauma survivors overcome traumatic stress through a variety of useful exercises, questionnaires, journaling, and more. I've recommended this book to several patients and we've worked through many of the processes in partnership, since frequently working these exercises without the assistance of a therapist can be emotionally challenging. While the information is excellent in itself, I prefer to combine it with therapeutic techniques not covered in the book. Fred P. 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Information
My doctor recommended this book.It was so full of good info that as I read it, I used a highlighter.I felt like I was reading about myself and it answered so many questions I've had for years. It is written so anyone can understand...not just another doctor.

4-0 out of 5 stars Adrenal Fatique
So many people should read this book. We are all under so much pressure and stress and have no idea what we are doing to the inside of our bodies. this book explains how important it is to have healthy adrenal function. I was amazed at the impact the adrenals have on your health. Very enlightnening !! I am now on my way to recovery .... feeling so much better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Adrenal book yet
I love reading health books- it's my passion. Of all the information I can find on adrenal problems this book is the best. He also has a a cd that is a good supplement to the book. He obviously has a lot of practical experience from his clinic as opposed to book knowledge. I would recommend this book to anyone who has low cortisol levels, fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue.

4-0 out of 5 stars Adrenal Fatigue
My wife bought the book and read it and then started buying copies for her friends. Can't get a much better recommendation than that!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Self-Help Book for Chronic Burn-Out called Adrenal Fatigue
Adrenal Fatigue by James L Wilson, ND, DC, PhD is unquestionably the definitive work on low cortisol adrenal fatigue, written by the top expert in the field after compiling 2400 medical references. Originally intending to educate physicians about adrenal fatigue, a syndrome currently ignored by mainstream medicine, Wilson changed his mind, and wrote a self-help guide for all of us chronically stressed out members of the "rat race" suffering from this new 21st century epidemic.

Chapter 5, the Signs and Symptoms of Adrenal Fatigue contains humorous illustrations which communicate very clearly in non-technical language the symptoms of fatigue, lethargy, craving of salty foods, hypoglycemic episodes, decreased libido, stress intolerance, light headed upon standing, depression, loss of memory and cognitive decline, and prolonged recovery time from flu-like illnesses, which characterize adrenal fatigue, the net result of years of chronic stress.

In Chapter 7, Wilson explains that adrenal fatigue is not recognized by mainstream medicine because there is no ICD-9 code, and health insurance companies will not pay for diagnosis and treatment without a code. This is perhaps a simplification because the ICD-9 code 255.4 for adrenocortical insufficiency can be used.Wilson goes on to explain that that the only codes and lab tests are for Addison's disease which is complete adrenal failure, so even if testing is done, most people with mild adrenal insufficiency will be told the test results are normal. Thanks to Wilson's efforts to publicize the syndrome, hopefully this is changing.

Chapter 8 contains a lengthy questionnaire which will assist the reader in self-diagnosis.

I found Chapter 10 on physical signs of adrenal fatigue the most useful, describing findings on physical examination such as the unstable pupil, blood pressure reduction upon standing, and Sergent's white line test.

Chapter 11 provides complete coverage of laboratory testing for cortisol levels in saliva, blood, and urine samples, as well as ACTH stimulation. Wilson favors the 4 sample salivary cortisol test as the easiest and most convenient method, with the added advantage that salivary testing can at home without a prescription

The largest section of the book, Part Three, deals with treatment and recovery from adrenal fatigue discussing lifestyle, diet, food allergies, replacement hormones, and supplements, and a discussion of cortisol vs. adrenal cortical extracts.

Adrenal fatigue is the net result of years of continuous high cortisol output by the adrenals caused by chronic stress from job, family, illness, injury, and poor diet and lifestyle associated with high-tech modern living. After years of chronic stress, the two small triangular supra-renal glands poop out, and we become another casualty of adrenal fatigue, the 21st century epidemic.Since mainstream doctors can't seem to help, either ignoring the syndrome, or prescribing anti-depressants for it, this self-help book may be a life-saver. Thank you, Dr. Wilson.

Other books recommended are Safe Uses of Cortisol by McK Jefferies, Hypothyroidism the Unsuspected Illness by Broda Barnes, From Fatigued to Fantastic by Teitelbaum.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Roadmap to Treating Causes of Chronic Illness
BACKGROUND

I am a Ph.D. chemist. In my free time, I have been on a quest to find an overview on the cause of chronic diseases and how to practically treat them -- especially immune disorders (for example, allergies, arthritis, fibromyalgia) and blood sugar imbalances (for example, hypoglycemia, diabetes).

Here are some of the key books I have found over the past 4 years and where this book fits into that collection.

KEY BOOKS FOR HEALTH

The first book that actually helped was "Enter the Zone" by Ph.D. biochemist Dr. Barry Sears, which first taught me about how diet influences general health from a very scientific perspective and how to design your meals for ideal health.(The easiest way to implement it that I found was the book by nutritionists Gene & Joyce Daoust "The Formula".)This was the first book that provided an overview of how to try to practically control your biochemistry for health (for example, with this I was able to reduce hypoglycemia and chronic fatigue).

Another key book was by physicians Dr. Murray and Dr. Pizzorno "Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine" which indicated that organic thymus glandular can help normalize the immune system (for example, decrease the severity of your allergies).

The next book with practical advice that works (although I question the scientific validity of some of his explanations) is the book by physician Dr. Jordan Rubin "Heal Thyself" -- someone who brought himself back from the brink of death by following the information that he shares in this book. The major item mentioned that helped was the protocol with the RM-10 product (a mixture of Shiitake mushrooms, etc.) to try to restore blood sugar and immune balance (and helped decrease arthritis, along with taurine, glucosamine, and MSM).

The next great overview book was by physician Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum "From Fatigued to Fantastic", which provided comprehensive and specific information on how to treat fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue but from a big picture overview.

THIS BOOK: BEST COMPLETE RATIONAL EXPLANATION FOR CHRONIC ILLNESS

Perhaps the greatest of all of the books I found so far was this book.

Not only does it give a detailed link between stress and chronic disease but also provides concrete details on how to approach treating the disease.

In this book (that was well-researched in both the clinic and library in collaboration with conventional physicians and scientists), he managed to tie together several different key subjects -- stress, metabolism, natural medicine and chronic illness, creating a rational underlying explanation for chronic illnesses.(For example, he shows how stress can produce a hypothryoid condition.)

I should also say that I have been trying on and off in my free time for the past 4 years or so to do the same thing and had not yet been able to do so.This book successfully answers my key questions about the connection between stress and chronic illness.

I am grateful to Dr. Weinstein for sharing his years of experience in the clinic with the world at large.I now have a framework for understanding and trying to approach treating my own health issues.

In my opinion, if you have ANY kind of chronic illness (even those for which mainstream medicine claims there are no treatments), you should read this book.Properly implementing his suggestions should improve your health -- no matter how deteriorated it currently is.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for anyone concerned with their health!
This book blew me away.Dr. Weinstein approaches his subject with energy, compassion, and wonderful humor. His no-nonsense approach to stress and health is both clear and persuasive. He explains a complex subject clearly and backs up his argument with solid research references throughout (the bibliography at the back of the book is impressive), yet the book is very easy to read. The link he draws between disease and high levels of stress hormones caused by poor diet, overuse of anti-inflammatory drugs (ibuprofen, aspirin, and the like), and other (reversible!) lifestyle factors is both irrefutable and damning.Dr. Weinstein isn't afraid to put the drug companies and the processed food industry squarely in his crosshairs.

This a practical book written by a practical man.His advice is both commonsense and easy to follow, and includes a resource list which can help you get personalized guidance. No 'chicken-soup' or 'don't sweat it' platitudes here, but hard, solid, well-researched advice.Sufferers of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, or any of a number of ailments should find this in this book the tools to change their life and the hope and the reason to do so.I strongly recommend this book to anyone! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars At Last a Doctor That Includes the Spiritaul with Western Medicine
I was surprised at all of the insight the Doc put into this book with his personal experiences and health issues. The biblical references were very poignant and added a clarity to issues discussed that for lack of better example would make Homer Simpson go "DOH". Bible and science working hand in hand. What a concept (I dont know why this stressed some of the reviewers out so much). When the medical community concerns itself with only our physical self and ignores the spiritul we are only getting half treated. Even many research institues are studying the positive effects of prayer and why those who meditate heal so much faster than those who dont. Deals with our current state of society and our consumer mentality of more more more which is the cause of many an ailment. While some matters were more common sense that we ignore, and some information for self help book readers may have been covered somewhat, it was nice to have it all tied together with more meaning explained. I felt as if this guy really cares for people and not just out for a best seller. I thought it was so helpful that I am buying several copies to give to my stressed out friends. Happy unstressing!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Stress Book
As someone who has been plagued by stress for years, I would definitely say that Colbert's book is a must-read.Lots of good wisdom and practical tips.

3-0 out of 5 stars Love the explanation of metabolic syndrome; dislike biblical references
I really liked reading parts of this book that were the medical/psychological connection between health and wellness.Syndrome X (metabolic syndrome) explained very well and the "why we get fat" thing was interesting and understandable and how stress plays a part.
I really disliked all the biblical references. Was he "preaching." or writing a self-help book,or a medical-based theory or a psychology book on stress. Can't quite tell what his real purpose was in writing this book. His bias towards religion turned me off!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Book But Religion Biased
Unlike many other books in the same genre, Stress Less doesn't attempt to sell the author's practice or any exclusive treatment plan. Dr Colbert first explains how adrenal burnout can occur and affect a person's health in ways which may not be directly attributed to a single, treatable disease. He goes on to offer a lot of stress reducing thoughts, behaviour and habits which don't cost anything. I give him 3 stars for that.

There are also recommendations for exericses, supplements, including herbal supplements. This is one area which is completely outside the scientific paradigm of Western medicine and I think, it's best that doctors not trained in TCM do not make any recommendations in this area. Miracle herbs like ginseng may work wonders for some, but it can do more harm than good for people whose bodies are not suited to it.

I'm also not very pleased with Dr Colbert's religious bias. It's all right if he tells us how being a Christian has helped him personally, but I don't think he should persuade others to embrace his faith.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a practical, wonderful book
I am a medical student at Oral Roberts University, and I began to read this book because of it's practicality and the widespread amounts of stress I see in people everywhere I go.I began to read this book, and it is so good, that it is my inspiration for my senior paper - the etiology of stress as it relates to physical ailments and various life-threatening diseases. You really feel Dr. Colbert's sense of empathy and love for people. He writes with understanding.Happy reading! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Cool Stuff Makes Sense
This is a really cool book. It is easy but not stupid. Funny but not cliche. Not preachy. I bought it for some folks I manage and it helped them a lot. I want to keep my brain so I'm getting busy being less busy. Being smarter about it.

5-0 out of 5 stars From avoiding worries to accepting a complicated world
In Stress Reduction For Busy People, Dawn Groves showcases steps to alleviating stress and offers over-stressed folks a host of effective, "user friendly" coping mechanisms each of which require no extra daily effort to deploy. From avoiding worries to accepting a complicated world with the least stress, Stress Reduction For Busy People provides a strongly recommended guide to attitude enhancements which can in themselves reduce stress.

Eliminating Stress, Finding Inner Peace is an important step on the healing journey. Stress kills, there's no doubt. Stress eats away at our happiness and joy, as well as our stomach lining. This book and its accompanying stress-reduction CD will help you deeply relax. It will enable you to release the acute and chronic stress we constantly carry in our bodies and our minds. It can help you remove the blocks and obstacles to your inner peace and joy, and prevent and heal stress-related illness and disease.

3-0 out of 5 stars One's relationship with God
I was astonished when I read page 447: "Those who say they are indifferent (to God) are usually angry or contemptuous, and that's a problem."

In light of all the anger and contempt we see today from those who are definitely not indifferentto God, I see more peace, kindness and health elsewhere. I think this particular writing expresses a personal andunprofessional bias for a psychologist.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very insightful
Well worth reading if you suffer from chronic, generalized anxiety. While this book is not a substitute for professional help, it certainly gives suffers of anxiety and depression an excellent insight into the many causes of these disorders and offers ways to temper the effects of these afflictions.I would say this book is a very good adjunct to individual or group therapy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, comprehensive, a winner
This book has been a godsend to me. The author describes & discusses so many aspects of stress, and why we are so stressed-out in the early 21st century. The volume is densely packed with information, & I find that it helps me to link up my expectations of life, with the realities of limits, relationships, physical and emotional care, and the kinds of situations that help anyone to be healthy - or perpetually stressed. I am not done with this book yet; I want to savor & absorb all that it has to offer. I highly recommend it to you. It's a great read and a wonderful ongoing reference book. You will be glad to have bought it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great info buried in to many unnecessary pages
At 459 mind numbing pages I would suggest saving yourself about 15 hours of reading time and pick up "Stress free for good" by Luskin and Pelletier, both books have the same goal to reduce your perpetual stress mode, both authors have the same basic credentials however this book (Undoing perpetual stress) goes on and on about the author, his last book, his theories about stress, and all his opinions. "Stress free for good" gives you quick principle to use now. Buy this book if you find stress incredible fascinating and would like to study it for 15 hours. 3-0 out of 5 stars A classic, but outdated in terms of information!!
I am a former physiology teaching fellow and research biochemist. In my daily life, I do stress management work with executives and others. While this book is a classic, it is NOT current and mostly of historical interest. For an easy read that is more accurate, try THE END OF STRESS AS WE KNOW IT.If you have a good biology background, then my favorite book in this genre is WHY ZEBRAS DON'T GET ULCERS by Sapolsky.

The three rating is not because it's a poorly written book, just that it is so behind the times it could be misleading.I would rate it higher for historical interest, but not for solid information on the stress response. We know much more about it now and Selye was off the mark in some important ways.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Stress of Life
Hans Selye MD PHD,the discoverer of "biologic stress", the neuroendocrine response of the body to exposure to stressors, lays the foundation for mind-body medicine and takes the reader on a detailed journey of scientific discovery which impacts every human being. This three time Nobel Prize nominee was way ahead of his time documenting the role of stress hormones on the immune, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal and neurological systems.
Selye's interest in educating the lay public and health professionals and his committment to share behaviors and life philosophies that are protective or modulate life stressors are evident throughout. Strongly recommended for health professionals with an interest in the scientific foundation for mind-body medicine.A must read for the lay person with an interest in stress adaptation and how the brain processes life stressors.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic!
The "Stress of Life" is widely considered to be a classic work in the field of stress research. The "father" of the stress hypothesis, Hans Selye, lays out the concept of a "general adaptation syndrome" to stressors and presents evidence to show that the stress response of an animal or human is a short or long termattempt to maintain a state of physiological balance or "homeostasis" . A book that should be on the shelf of anyone interested in this topic. ... Read more

Book Description
Take two-they're small. And they perform miracles. Suffering a career-ending, potentially crippling injury to her back and right leg, a young dancer named Elaine Petrone tried everyone from orthopedists to yogis to turn her pain and prognosis around. Nothing worked-until she healed herself through a unique program of therapy and exercise based around the use of two small, squishy balls. From there she turned her passion into a mission that is helping the thousands of people who visit her classes conquer pain, stress, and injury.

Now, for relief for sufferers everywhere, comes The Miracle Ball Method, a healing kit containing two miracle balls and a fully illustrated book, all packaged together in an attention-getting clear plastic cylinder. The work itself is simple. Take a sore back: By resting your aching back on the grapefruit-sized balls and letting your body sink into them, you're unworking the muscles that hurt. Pain and tension drain out of the body. Petrone shows how proper breathing (which she demonstrates) works in conjunction with a range of unexercises that call for placing the balls under the back, head, knees, hip, elbow-wherever there's pain-and then resting, rolling, or rotating on them. She points out that relief can come in surprising ways: Lower back pain may be helped by placing the ball under your neck, or a bad knee might be helped by hip work. It's arevolutionary program of relief, from head to toe. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars so far i've had 2 great experiences on the ball
let me just say that i'm probably the only dude who uses these things, but I love them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful health aid
I use the miracle ball for any aches and pains that I have and always have a set on hand to give to friends when they have muscle pain.I do endurance riding in the high desert of California and count this tool as one of my most important in staying fit to ride.

5-0 out of 5 stars Years later and it still works
I have not read all the reviews yet, but I have not seen one saying that he or she has worked with Petrone herself. Well, here I am. For almost 2 years I suffered from what may now be known as "frozen shoulder." I could not lift my arm more than a few inches from my side without seeing stars! a combination of chiropractic, scapula massage and taking Elaine Petrone's class at a health club in New York in the early 00's that finally gave me my shoulder back pain free. while I was undergoing treatment, I went to her class once a week, bought a set of balls of my own and followed the video and cassette tapes that came with them. I am a personal trainer that still works at that health club and 3 others. I work with people with Multiple Sclerosis, overweight people, young and healthy people and with seniors. even when I don't have her balls to work with, I use her 3 basic stretches. I only have one person who says they do not work for her and that is because she is full of fear and has herself convinced that her neck should only move in one direction. her attitude is terrible and she does not listen, so nothing works for her and I don't insist. I tolerate her until our hour is done and don't let her take away from what the balls have to offer others in the class, who all love them. It is true that everything doesn't work for everyone, but it amazes me how many people make up their minds first or don't follow instructions to the letter and then expect anything other than having their worst expectations confirmed.

speaking as a fitness professional with 24 years experience and personal exposure to Elaine herself, I recommend them and put my money where my mouth is--I gave them as gifts to my clients this past xmas.

Since Elaine, there have been many other types, sizes and methods of ball work that have come on the market and they each have something to offer. I have tried others and always come back to Elaine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Much welcome comfort
I am a massage therapist, my husband a Chiropractor. We both recommend these very highly. We keep a few dozen in the office at all times to give to our patients in conjunction with their care. We also use them for ourselves!Must have for EVERYONE!

5-0 out of 5 stars was skeptical, but am a beliver
I had read about these little balls in a couple of different magazine and thought, "yeah, sure".I've suffered with low back, neck and shoulder pain for years, but I did something in Oct to my neck and shoulder and it was just getting worse and worse. The doctor keep giving me muscle relaxers and steroid packs, but nothing was helping.I got to where I couldn't even do simple things like write a check or needlepoint without pain.I was going to the Chiropractor twice a week.Anyway, I saw these at Barnes and Noble one night and was desperate enought to try them.OH MY LORD, they work.I wish I'd found them 10 years ago.It would have saved me a ton of money.
The only caution I would suggest is to be sure and listen when Elaine says, "If it hurts don't do it."I put the balls as the pictures directed and it hurt, but I toughed it out thinking the muscles would go ahead and relax.I paid for that.Find where you can comfortably lay on them.
I have found the ribs on the ball and shoulders on the ball especially helpful.I don't even do as many reps as Elaine recommends and I'm finding relief.I can't imagine how good I'd feel if I had the time to do the whole program every day.My husband/makeshift massage therapist, says he's never felt my shoulders this loose in the fifteen years we've been married.Thank you Elaine Petrone. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Did not buy this item
Don't know why this is here as I never purchased this item.

4-0 out of 5 stars Quite good
This is a collection of activities and exercises that you can use during training or meetings (or even alone) to reduce stress and make you more relaxed. Some of the activities are quite good especially the breathing exercises and the visualizations. However, there are quite a few activities that are quite ridiculous as well as others that are just not possible at work or in the training room.

For trainers, many activities are useful as icebreakers or as stress-reducers after a heated discussion. The reason I bought the book in the first place is because I could not find anything else in that category, so I guess there isn't really that much choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great stress-management techniques....
Personally, I think this book is easy to read and understand. The games presented in the book are unique and simple to apply. Many companys and businesses experience stress daily. Therefore, this book provides numerous ways to help relieve stress in the workplace. I strongly recommend this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not for the Workplace
I agree with the previous reviewer that this book is too focused on therapy-type games instead of games that teach more practical skills. I teach stress management for a municipal government, and the games in this book (particularly the visualization and role-playing exercises) are definitely not oriented toward the needs of most workplace environments. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Book Well Worth the Price
I wont bore you by saying 'good for a beginner', you wouldnt be looking at purchasing this book if you already used Crystal Reports. And it wouldnt make sense to buy it just to learn about any upgrades from 8.

For me, Dr. Murphy's book was a real surprise. Really reasonably priced yet chock full of the kind of detail I need to learn an application like Crystal. I just completed Business Objects online training for CR XI to the tune of $1500. I have to say in all honesty that Dr. Murphy's book far surpasses BO's four course package. Hmm, let's see, I guess my employer could have saved about $1450.01 by buying this book first.

Another reviewer complained about reusing reports, a really unfounded gripe, I thought. The nice thing about Crystal Rpts XI is that report titles can include up to 200 characters, so the report builder can name the report very specifically for easy retrieval. At the end of your training with this book, if you work through the examples patiently, you wont need to be saving any of these reports. And if you place them in the Workbench as instructed they are extremely easy to find and reuse if you need to.
The screen shots are accurate, the discussion is detailed. She uses humor to kind of lessen the inherent tedium. Im through Chapter 6 now, the only criticism I have so far is that the layout is a little wide on the page for this type of binding. That and the word 'then' is used consistently in place of the word 'than' throughout. A small and excusable error! I have scanned the rest of the book and believe it very closely follows BO's own training, but with a far greater degree of accuracy and detail. I love this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent investment
This book is particularly good for people who've worked a lot in Microsoft Access and who are just making the move to Crystal Reports because the author is extremely familiar with both applications.I've since added a second Crystal reference to my library, but this book's a great place to start as you're learning Crystal syntax and how Crystal 'thinks'.

2-0 out of 5 stars A little less than adequate and a little more than annoying
While admitting that this book does have some utility, I would be quick to add that it seems to have been crafted with little thought for the end user. The primary problem concerns the examples. Im all for learning by doing, but the methods used here create more headaches and hassle than a solid understanding of the program features. Essentially the reader is asked to create two or three files at the beginning of the book. Easy enough. Unfortunately the rest of the book consists of the reader making subtle changes to the file(s) again and again only to rename the file something else for each exercise. Can you imagine the number of files in the folder by the end of the book.(and all with a file that looks essentially the same). This gets to be a big headache when your asked to go back and find the old file from a few lessons earlier for the next exercise your planning to work on. This can be especially annoying if your like me and want to skip around and find program features that you might need. Also... Either way you use the book (straight through or hopping around), the examples seem too focused on the same type of tasks and the almost endless formatting changes available in the program. I would have appreciated more substance and less formatting fluff. While working through the exercises, I think I actually spent more time finding the correct file for the exercise compared to actually going through the steps to complete the exercise.

One tip. If you buy this book. Do yourself a favor and use their naming conventions to the letter. Otherwise you'll find yourself spending excess time searching for files you previously created for the next exercise.

3-0 out of 5 stars proceed carefully
This is the second book I used as a CR developer, and it got me rolling nicely. It could definitely be laid out better for beginners, so it gets 3 of 5 stars.

The information is accurate and extensive. The organization could be greatly improved. It is unclear where the author is explaining and where each exercise begins and ends.

The exercises of each chapter are based closely on the exercises of the previous chapter. If you deviate from an exercise to learn more or just to spice things up, you will be lost in the following chapters, so keep a "plain vanilla" copy of each completed exercise.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful hands-on exercises
Dr. Murphy has written an easy to use book that will enable anyone to start using Crystal Report XI.Her workbook exercises ensure that each topic is understood before moving forward to the next topic. ... Read more

Book Description
Peterson's Stress Concentration Factors establishes and maintains a system of data classification for all of the applications of stress and strain analysis and expedites their synthesis into CAD applications. Substantially revised and completely updated, this book presents stress concentration factors both graphically and with formulas. It also employs computer-generated art in its portrayal of the various relationships between the stress factors affecting machines or structures. These charts provide a visual representation of the machine or structure under consideration as well as graphs of the various stress concentration factors at work. They can be easily accessed via an illustrated table of contents that permits identification based on the geometry and loading of the location of a factor.

For the new third edition, new material will be added covering finite element analyses of stress concentrations, as well as effective computational design. The book explains how to optimize shape to circumvent stress concentration problems and how to achieve a well-balanced design of structures and machines that will result in reduced costs, lighter products, and improved performance. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Educator/College Counselor
Finally, a well thought out book for parents thinking about the college process! My favorite story is early in the book setting the tone for a great and helpful read. Early on, the author is clear that the process is out of control for many parents. As the Admissions Director for MIT, she makes it clear not to worry about college until it is time, rather than picking your preschool with intent to head to the IVYies....This book really tells us there ismuch more to learn on this road and truly this book is all about that journey in a healthier way!

4-0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth the read
I found this book to be useful. The author had several suggestions that we had not thought of and facts we were not aware of.The whole college admissions process is way harder than when I went through it, and I would say, there is a lot of negative as far as I can see.Her book is encouraging that the process can be a positive one, if you can step out of the frenzy that most other kids and parents seem to be embroiled in.The only reason I gave it 4/5 stars instead of 5 is because I felt there was some conflicting information between our school's college counselors and her and that's confusing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every parent of a high school junior should buy her book today.
Ms. Jones's advice on how the parents of high school juniors and seniors can reduce stress in the college admissions process is spot on.

I was lucky enough to receive Ms. Jones's advice when she spoke to a standing-room-only crowd at our Boston area high school. For those not so lucky, you can obtain the advice in her book, coauthored with pediatrician Kenneth R. Ginsburg.

Parents - and their children - will benefit from Jones's advice for two reasons:1.Jones explains WHY current parents are so hyper about the admissions process (partly due to the fact that we parents are from the generation which mistakenly believes we can accomplish anything!)2.And Jones gives practical advice on HOW each parent can reduce their child's stress in the admission process, including actions that can be easily implement right away.

Every parent of a high school junior or senior should buy her book today.

5-0 out of 5 stars Less Stress, More Success: A New approach to Guiding Your Teen Through College Admissions and Beyond
Really grounded for both parents and teens.A must to read before any other books on college, including the guides to colleges. This gets you centered on what is important and aligns your values; then you can focus on the facts about colleges. A great duo.....a college admissions dean and a pediatrician....both care deeply about kids and speak to what they need.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of two great books for stressed out parents
As parents who have seen many of our friends completely lose perspective as their kids apply to college, my wife and decided that we would not go down that road when our time came. Forget all the books that imply they will get your child into a "brand name" school. It's about discovering together a place where they can grow, and strenghtening your relationshipas you launch them toward their future. In the name of sanity, I recommend this book (and also a great one our own pediatrician recommended, "Getting In Without Freaking Out.") Stop hovering -- start helping your kids by not imposing your agenda. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars excellant
this is a really good book.i would recommend it to anyone recovering from trauma.you do not need to be an artist at all.

4-0 out of 5 stars What it is, and is not
This book provides a series of VERY structured (not just an oil pastel, but a *black* oil pastel; not just two sheets of paper, but two 12" x18" sheets of paper), very specific exercises one can use to nibble away at the edges of PTSD.If that is what you're looking for, this is a decent book.

If you are an artist, and are looking for a book that provides counsel on how to use your art to "manage traumatic stress," this is emphatically NOT the work you are looking for.

The 26 'art experiences' in this book are divided into three sections: 1. Developing basic tools for managing stress, which includes such exercises as drawing a safe place and making a 'comfort box'; 2. Acknowledging and regulating your emotions, which includes validating anger and making an imprint of fear; 3. Being and functioning in the world, which includes drawing your interpersonal boundaries.

The art supplies called for to use this book in the manner its authors would like is a pretty extensive list. They are quite specific as to what materials should be used for each exercise.Unless you're actively making diverse art, expect to shell out some cash for materials.

This particular book, it seems to me, is well-suited for art therapists or occupational therapists (and fairly well written to that end); not so much for the artist at home.

5-0 out of 5 stars A remarkable tool.
This extraordinary work enabled me to work through my great stress and associated feelings after my Father was diagnosed with stomach cancer which resulted in his death.I am grateful to the authors for creating such apowerful, accessible, and healing book. The instruction is clear, concise, and most importantly, easy to follow.Guidance is offered when challengingfeelings arise. One never feels left in the lurch. And I don't believeyou must be an artist, at all, to use this book, though you might beprompted to continue working with the simple and easily aquired materialsthe authors suggest.I can't say enough about the usefulness of this bookfor dealing withemotional trauma. ... I find this workbook to be very useful in my health promotion classes with nursing students. The exercises are clear, easy to use and meaningful to the students. I also use the exercises in my stress workshops for our graduated nurses. My favorites are the butterfly art therapy exercise and the journaling exercise. For the butterfly, I hand out new boxes of crayola crayons. I interpret the colors they have used. For the journaling exercise everyone gets a small, polished stone to describe. My participants have given excellent reviews and have written months later to tell me their butterflies hang on their refrigerator to remind them of their expression of feelings and they continue to enjoy journaling.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as others
I listened to a tape of Louise Hay's about fear from the library and it was so great so I ordered this. But this one is annoying to listen to because instead of the affirmations saying "I am safe" etc, it says "I am safe. You are safe." because Louise Hay says the affirmation that you are supposed to hear and then she also says the subliminal message that you usually don't hear. The other track just has music with the subliminal message under it. But there isn't any track that has just the affirmations (I am safe) with the subliminal part (you are safe) hidden. It is distracting to hear "I am safe. You are safe." I don't know why they did it this way.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST CD FOR STRESS REDUCTION THAT YOU CAN BUY!
In my opinion, everything that Louise Hay has written has been wonderful. Her very simplistic and down to earth writing really works for me. Since 1988, I have read Louise's books and listened to her tapes and CD's. I first bought this on tape in 1990 and wore out the tape! So I ordered the CD in 2005. When I first listened to this CD, I was amazed because it has both Louise's soothing words and also beautiful music with a subliminal message that will go to your sub-conscious mind. This CD gives you practical help in everyday living and letting go of negative and stressful thoughts and old beliefs. And because I feel that Louise Hays teachings, CD's and books really work for me, I own 14 of them! And This CD really works for me and I have it to use when needed. Thanks Louise!

5-0 out of 5 stars Louise Hay Always Does a Good Job
I haven't found a Louise Hay CD that I haven't liked.I especially like the subliminal component to this CD.It is nice to listen to the ocean and calming sounds - which alone help to relieve stress. Her tapes always work well for me and the clients I recommend them to.I would recommend listening to a CD consistently for 30 days then only as needed. It is amazing how you no longer struggle with the same Stresses after you listen to the CD for a while.I listened to it when I was driving from work. Now I have it on (subliminal side)in my office when clients come in.It creates a stress free office. She tells us that Stress is just a form of fear and if we fear something - we just attract it into our lives. This reason alone should make you want to de-stress.We really can't afford to focus on our fears...we need to spend our time focussing our what we want to create in our lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Relaxing and empowering
This CD has 2 parts- 1st, audible affirmations spoken by Louise.2nd, subliminal affirmations with relaxing music that is audible.Affirmations work only if you WORK them.Louise's premise is our thoughts create our life.If we want to change our lives, we must intentionally change our thoughts.Stress, she says, and I agree 100%, is a result of fear.Affirmations on this CD include

-I am safe when I express my feelings.
-I have a great relationship with my boss.
-I flow easily and effortlessly with life.
-I am comfortable with my finances
-I can be serene in any situation

Louise says we must conciously make this work, we use affimrations all the time, we must chose to to use positive affirmations, they are what change our lives in the direction we want them to go.

I have expirienced huge changes including confidence and peace.Awareness is critical.I pay attention to how I feel and when I notice negative affirmations coming up I tell myself "I am totally adequate for all situations" or "I can be serene in any situation" over and over and over... As I said, this works if YOU work it! I never would've believed if I didn't expirience it for myself.

Highly reccomend, it will change your life if you let it!

5-0 out of 5 stars More help from Hay!

This book has it all - yoga, meditation, pranayama (breath). I especially like the way the book breaks down the plan with a specific focus for each week and gives a plan for each day of the week. Well worth the commitment of 40 minutes a day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent - Do No Miss This!!!!
Managing Stress is one of the best textbooks I have seen and should be required reading at every school. The reason I enjoy the book so much is because it presents a whole new way of seeing stress - stress reframed from a positive, enlightenedperspective. The book is such a comprehensive volume of information, including just enough of all the most important topics related not only to stress, but to mind-body health in general, as much as any author can encapsulate in such a huge, broad, and growing field.

Managing Stress is so good because Seaward helps readers and students recognize an important need in our culture for embracing a broader perspective of wellness, one that encompasses and touches every nuance of life including business, education, the arts, government, and so on.

Wellness is certainly not solely about taking care of the body,it is perhaps even more importantly about taking care of the mind and spirit. This book is endlessly full of great supporting holistic mind-body health research and tidbits, including fascinating studies proving the efficacy of the stress-management modalities provided.Through the study of this text alone I believe one can develop an in-depth knowedge of not only mind-body health, but of the whole human condition, what it means to be a human being.I cannot think of too many other books that I can make that statement about.

If you want to learn how to change your life, study this text in-depth, and then choose topics from it you are most interested in, and delve into them using many of the additional resources provided.Yet, perhaps most importantly, learn to put these techniques into practice and then you will find not only the jewel of analytical knowledge, but, even more, the crowning jewel of wisdom and enlightenment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent !!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The only text I thoroughly read cover to cover in college!!!
