Product Description
Liza, Kellyanne and Billie are ambitious heroines chasing their dreams in the demimondes of media politics, reality television and rock music. Their journey unfolds thrill by thrill, shock by shock in an unputdownable story about the illusions of glamour, the dark side of success, the elusiveness of love and the fragility of relationships. Three incidents will change their lives forever: a career free fall, a surprise pregnancy and a brutal murder. And it all happens during one unforgettable season at a summer share in the Hamptons. "Tan Lines - A Valley of the Dolls for the 21st Century" - portrays their passions, triumphs and heartbreaks with a sly intelligence and a wickedly sharp prose that will be loved by fans of Jackie Collins, Jacqueline Susann and a whole new generation of readers. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Excellent writing... Just too raunchy for comfort!
The author is excellent in his writing skills, but Tan Lines is just smut. I've read novels before that contained sex scenes, but the sex scenes in this book were just too much. They were disgusting and completely perverted at times. If it weren't for the raunchiness of the book, I might rate higher. On the contrary, however, if it weren't for the really excellent story-telling skills of J. J. Salem, I would rate lower. This book, unfortunately, does not deserve its keep on my bookshelf. I am still debating if giving a two star rating is too much.

5-0 out of 5 stars I had no expectations at all about this book but it was one of the best reads I've had in a long time
I had no expectations at all about this book but it was one of the best reads I've had in a long time. Very, pacey, very sexy and lots of fun but it's not a fluffy read either, it gets you wondering about what's important in life and what really makes a woman happy. The book details the lives of three women; feminist and columnist Liza Pike, Kellyanne Downey wannabee actress and mistress to a rich older man and Billie Shelton, a rock goddess who is on a path of self-destruction. Friends since college the three meet up in the Hamptons for a summer of fun, bitching and partying. The humour and one liners are razor sharp and the story runs like a train. I stormed through this book and wanted more. Definitely recommend.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pure trash
This was one of the worst books that I've ever read. To put it on a level with Jacqueline Susann is ridiculous. I am ashamed to admit that I read as much as I did, hoping that it would get better. Most of the characters have very little redeeming value and the crudeness of the language was just too much.

2-0 out of 5 stars Jackie Collins Wannabe
It's obvious from reading the author's website that he wants to be the next Jackie Collins. The problem is he tried way too hard and fell way too short.

There's a difference between a "smut novel" and smut. This was nothing but smut. And while well-written, too much was left hanging and unexplained, which made for a very unsatisfying read.

1-0 out of 5 stars Depressing Trash
Tan Lines is one of the worst books I've ever read.I was disgusted by the majority of the characters.Apparently the author doesn't realize that his main characters should have some redeeming qualities.Instead he fills Tan Lines with awful people doing reprehensible things.I started the book disliking his characters and story and ended up truly hating both.If you want to waste a couple hours of your life wallowing in depressing filth buy this book.Otherwise steer clear. In the future I will pass over anything written by this author. It's sad, because it's clear that he knows how to write. If he'd dialed back the cynicism and given his characters some basic morals it might have saved the book from being atrocious. ... Excerpt: Ultraviolet (UV) light is electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength shorter than that of visible light, but longer than x-rays, in the range 10 nm to 400 nm, and energies from 3eV to 124 eV. It is so named because the spectrum consists of electromagnetic waves with frequencies higher than those that humans identify as the color violet. UV light is found in sunlight and is emitted by electric arcs and specialized lights such as black lights. As an ionizing radiation it can cause chemical reactions, and causes many substances to glow or fluoresce. Most people are aware of the effects of UV through the painful condition of sunburn, but the UV spectrum has many other effects, both beneficial and damaging, on human health. The discovery of UV radiation was intimately associated with the observation that silver salts darken when exposed to sunlight. In 1801 the German physicist Johann Wilhelm Ritter made the hallmark observation that invisible rays just beyond the violet end of the visible spectrum were especially effective at darkening silver chloride-soaked paper. He called them "de-oxidizing rays" to emphasize their chemical reactivity and to distinguish them from "heat rays" at the other end of the visible spectrum. The simpler term "chemical rays" was adopted shortly thereafter, and it remained popular throughout the 19th century. The terms chemical and heat rays were eventually dropped in favor of ultraviolet and infrared radiation, respectively. T...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=31990 ... Read more
