Product Description
Syncope: Mechanisms and Management is the principle text and sole source devoted to pathophysiological, clinical diagnostic and therapeutic information in this field.

The second edition has been completely updated and remains the most comprehensive and useable reference ever published on this common clinical entity. It is a ‘must-have’ purchase providing up-to-date coverage of virtually every known cause of syncope, integrating knowledge of pathophysiology with practical guidelines for diagnosis and management.

This book includes new chapters and new data from the ISSUE trial, as well as results of the multi-center trials using device therapy in patients with syncope and organic heart disease. It also contains updated information about the mechanism of neurocardiogenic syncope, carotid-sinus hypersensitivity, syncope in childhood and adolescence, chronic fatigue and orthostatic hypotensive disorders.

Syncope: Mechanisms and Management is thoughtfully structured to make this large quantity of diverse information easy to digest – each section is designed to stand alone while also being part of a coherent whole, forming a solid foundation for further development in this rapidly expanding and increasingly complex field. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Heavy on the autonomics
You can where the emphasis is going to be tell by who edited this book. This is what I expected, what I wanted and what I got.
This is an excellent complete well written and edited book that provides electrophysiologists and cardiologists, who are asked to manage non-arrhythmic syncope whether we like it or not, with a basis to do so.
This novel is an excellent compedium of knowledge for the general cardiologist or electrophysiologist providing a very practical knowledge of non-arrhythmic syncope with an appropriate level of basic science.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Clinical Syncope Text
As a practicing cardiologist, I routinely treat patients with syncope, and this text, edited by one of the leaders in the world on the subject, is excellent and has been very useful to me.There is enough basic science here to be useful (and you cannot treat syncope without understanding the underlying mechanisms) without becoming tedious, and is included to the extent necessary. The text is very direct regarding how to optimally proceed to attempt to establish a diagnosis, and options regarding treatment are clearly spelled out.In addition to chapters on the various types of syncope, there are also chapters on special populations (young, elderly, athletes) as well as chapters on the legal aspects of providing care to this population. For any health care provider who routinely provides evaluation or treatment for patients with syncope I simply cannot recommend this book highly enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
It's an excellent book, because it have information that you don't found here in Mexico in the library about Dysautonomia.

5-0 out of 5 stars essential reference for anyone with autonomic dysfunction

Many patients spend years trying to get acorrect diagnosis, and after diagnosis, they struggle to find some helpfultherapy. Many family practice physicians may see a patient with prodromalsymptoms for years before referring them to a specialist. This work helpsexplain why these problems are often brushed aside. ... Product Description

Why is it that the modern conception of literature begins with one of the worst writers of the philosophical tradition? Such is the paradoxical question that lies at the heart of Jean-Luc Nancy’s highly original and now-classic study of the role of language in the critical philosophy of Kant. While Kant did not turn his attention very often to the philosophy of language, Nancy demonstrates to what extent he was anything but oblivious to it. He shows, in fact, that the question of philosophical style, of how to write critical philosophy, goes to the core of Kant’s attempt to articulate the limits, once and for all, that would establish human reason in its autonomy and freedom. He also shows how this properly philosophical program, the very pinnacle of the Enlightenment, leads Kant to posit literature as its other by way of what is here called the syncope, and how this other of philosophy, entirely its product, cannot be said to exist outside of metaphysics in its accomplishment. This subtle, unprecedented reading of Kant demonstrates the continued importance of reflection on the relation between philosophy and literature, indeed, why any commitment to Enlightenment must consider and confront this partition anew.

Possibly enough, the tracing produced by asphyxia, and that resulting from the perturbation of the circulation above described, may be the same, for during the pause in the heart's action it is probable that the arteries and capillaries are almost empty, and that the blood has accumulated in the venous system. But there was no possible cause of asphyxia in the cat, and however similar the results, the primary and sole cause was the chloroform.Deductions.—It may be interesting and important to notice some of the consequences of the above principles. It will be readily granted that an agent which produces deep anaesthesia is to be regarded as a force of very considerable intensity. It may be laid down as an axiom that no force acting with great intensity on the animal system can be suddenly removed with safety. Hence, if we could conceive of the internal force, the chloroform in the blood, being removed as suddenly as the external one, the same consequence would follow, namely, syncope. We can readily imagine an agent capable of being so suddenly removed—a substance of slight solubility, but so powerful that a small quantity of it might suffice to produce deep anaesthesia. These were just the very characteristics of amylene, and furnish one reason why, in the hands of the late Dr. Snow, itproved a treacherous and dangerous agent, the result being the very reverse of what its introducer expected. It further follows from the same principle that if the external force, instead of being removed suddenly and completely, were slowly withdrawn by allowing the percentage of vapour gradually to diminish, the tendency to syncope would be altogether obviated. Another obvious consequence is, that if the external force be not suffi... ... Read more
