Dr. Hougie's new book is a real gem. Only someone with personal involvement in the field, over a long time, as well as a talent for writing, as Dr. Hougie has, could have condensed so much information, and so clearly, in only 184 pages. I read the book from cover to cover, and found delight in each page.
Most books of Thrombosis and Bleeding are enormous, dry, and written for the expert. This book is a wonderful exception. I recommend it very highly to all health professionals longing to understand the difficult field of Hemostasis, from its historical beginnings, to the most recent concepts. Very good book but with the most typos I have seen in any medical textbook published in the West.Some of them pertain to drug doses. Therefore would not recommend to a novice.But a good review if you have some knowledge of the subject.I hope the authordoes a better job getting the next edition Proofread before it is printed.

What we now call deep venous thrombosis (DVT) has been elucidated by a diversity of investigative approaches during the past four centuries. The authors of this book survey the history of the field and ask: why has one of these perspectivesthe haematological/biochemicalcome to dominate research into the causation of DVT during the past 50 years and to exclude alternatives? In answering this question, they show that the current consensus model is conceptually flawed. Building on the work of William Harvey, John Hunter, Rudolf Virchow, Ludwig Aschoff and a number of pathologists in the mid-20^th century, they offer a revised account of the aetiology of this condition. In the process they retrace and review the 160-year-old philosophical and methodological schism in biomedical research and, using DVT as an example, propose how this schism might be bridged to the benefit of both research and clinical practice.
