5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for getting your
Dr. Brownstein offers an easy to understand book about how to overcome one of the most common health issues - thyroid problems. He addresses hypothyroid, hyperthyroid and Chronic Fatigue / Fibromyalgia.I was thrilled to see that he addressed the issue of poor converters of T4 to T3, importance of good thyroid supporting nutrients, diet and detoxification. Most doctors will just throw Synthroid at you and call it good without treating the underlying cause. He refers to the importance of iodine and that is covered in his other book "Iodine:Why you need it, Why you can't live without it."That is also an excellent book. All therapies mentioned can be performed by a Holistic Doctor, Alternative Medicine Doctor or Naturopathic Medical doctor.[...]

1-0 out of 5 stars He wants you to buy his other books
I am very disappointed. He keeps referring you to his other book on Iodine, which really makes me mad.
This book is also doublespaced, so as to make it bigger than what it actually is, a pamphlet.
This book is mainly about hypothyroid, which I am not.
He talks alot about CFS, Fibro more than he talks about anything else, and most of this info is on the internet already.
A waste of money because he's a scam artist trying to sell his other books. He is not trying to help anyone.
He must've paid the other people to write such glowing reviews.
Also, you would need a naturopathic doctor or regular physician to follow some of his suggestions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Overcoming Thyroid Disorders
This book can be purchased directly from Doctor Brownstein's web site www.centerforholisticmedicine.com for $15.00. I was appalled to see the markup on these books. When people have serious health concerns I think it is a crime to take advantage of them for the mighty dollar.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST for Thyroid Patients!
As a practicing physician and someone new to the "alternative" world of medicine, Dr. Brownstein's book was indeed helpful. My wife has Hashimoto's and the detail and references in this book have helped me to guide her therapy. Easy to read but detailed, this book supplements Richard Shames' "Thyroid Power: 10 Steps to Total Health" as an excellent addition to any thyroid patient's reference library!

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Brownstein has done it again
Once again Dr. Brownstein has put together a great book. This book provides an easy to read way to learn about a number of disorders that can be very difficult to treat.Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in particular have baffled M.D.'s for years and Dr. Brownstein provides a fresh and helpful view.I recommend this to patients and physicians alike. ... The author describes scans, ultrasound and biopsy techniques to
aid in the detection of thyroid diseases. There is an extensive
description of thyroid cancers and treatments. The lobectomy is

2-0 out of 5 stars thyroid balance review
If you are looking for a book that outlines traditional and alternative methods for treating thyroid disorders, this is NOT the one to buy. In fact,it covers this topic in the last quarter of the book and only in a couple of pages. Mostly covers the endocrine system, symptoms, signs, thyroid drugs, differences between hypo and hyperthyroidism. This information is ok for those who are newly diagnosed and need more information. Does not provide any insightful methods on alternative methods for treatment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well rounded book
I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease and am struggling between hypo and hyperactive symptoms concurrently.

The Thyroid Balance is informative and gives a general overview of thyroid disorders and treatment options (including alternative medicine options) for all thyroid conditions.

It touches on the topic of when surgery is necessary and when patients may benefit from another course of action (i.e. acupuncture or other holistic treatments, avoiding certain foods that may trigger the disorder)

I think its a great book to get started with and I would defintely reccommend it to a friend. However, it was published in 2003 so I would check with a doctor to see if any of the information needs to be updated or if additional research has been done.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just started and am astounded!
Well I've jsut started reading this book and am already astounded at the wealth of information.I have already learned details that i haven't in the other thyroid sources I've been reading.(they were good each for their own reasons though) This is the first book I've come across that seems to address T2 (something my doctor told me didn't exist!!!) as well as how other endocrine functions can really affect the thyroid.Even though I am still in tghe beginning chapters I am already so glad I bought this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
Just a great book, very well written, easy to understand with great insights towards the functioning of the tiroids and how it affects the whole body.

5-0 out of 5 stars No book is perfect, but this is a good one.
Really good book. Throw out every diet idea before it kills you, and soak up the advice Ann Gittleman (a recovering Pritkin - or any - "diet" fan) has to tell you. It's a great guide for women, and for anyone who wants to know some basics about good nutrition. No book is perfect, but this is a good one. Don't miss the many good reference sources she lists at the back of the book. ... Read more
