Excellent!
This book is a wonderful test of your grey cells.The only problem I found was that I personally thought the scoring was set a bit high.All in all, it is a feast for the mind.

Very appropriate title!!
This is a different kind of quiz book. And it is fun too. For every alphabet (almost every as some alphabets are combined together like J and K) there are 50 questions and their answer word(s) begins with that alphabet. So you know that the answer word(s) begin with A or B or ... before even reading the question!

Positives:
1> The questions are very varied ranging from movie stars to plain scientific knowledge.
2> The level of questions is also varied so you will always be able to get some right and not feel frustrated :)
3> All questions have 1, 2 or 3 (rare) word answers.

Negatives:
1> The questions on people, movies and television are old and concentrated in the 1975-85 range which makes them more difficult than they really are.
2> A distinctly large number of questions are focussed towards US, but maybe that is intended.

All in all a very good and enjoyable book which fully justifies its title. It really gets you a feel of how "literate" you are. And literacy is indeed different from the ability to read and write. ... Read more

The Photograph
Paul Pervenche, a loss adjuster in an insurance company, has a sigle passion: photography. One day he shows his old mentor, Armand, a photograph of which he is particularly proud, and Armand points out that it is missing something. It needs soul, a body ... perhaps a corpse?

Paul gradually becomes obsessed by this idea. He comes to see, in Armand's subsequent suicide, a signal from the old man that the combined elements of beauty, desire and death will lead him to a photograph of total perfection.

Paul returns again and again with his camera to the scene of the photograph, waiting for a chance to take it again and this time make it complete. To succeed he must transcend his own life, and cross the boundary separating him from his dreams. Distinctions between truth and desire, fact and artifice, become blurred. His girlfriend, his colleagues, the little girl on whom he comes to depend, are all lost to him.

A somber, fascinating and macabre novel tracing the bleak descent into a Hitchcockian delirium of despair and madness, and reminiscent of the work of Camus.
