5-0 out of 5 stars Math prep for third graders
As a fan of the Scholastic workbooks, my son completed this workbook over the summer as well. He's pretty good in math, so this was more to keep him moving forward and up to speed with his class.

Sections include:
Place Value
Addition and subtraction
Multiplication and division
Fractions
Word Problems
Test Practice

Scholastic keeps it fun and entertaining and my son likes the way they break down the information. We will be getting the fourth grade books next year.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just Average
Good basic workbook that my son enjoys using. But if you are looking for problem solving practice exercises, this isn't for you

4-0 out of 5 stars Summer Math Fun
I got this for my son who is entering 3rd grade to keep up on his math skills. He has done about 1/2 of the book. It's really great the way the math is done by way of games - he doesn't feel it is work and has had fun with it so far.

5-0 out of 5 stars 3rd Grade Math Practice (Practice (Scholastic))
I purchased the book for the 3rd grade daughter of a friend on of mine that was having problems with her arithmetic. The teacher looked through and was very impressed. She said that she would start using it in her class. Best of all, her daughter really took to the book and is feeling much more comfortable with her numbers.

It is easy to go through and has lots of good practice tests. There are also versions for different grade levels. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A nice summer refresher for homeschoolers
We found the Daily Math Practice books to be a good summer review for our kids. We just happen to homeschool, but they would be equally valuable to anyone. They are not what I would consider comprehensive, but they do help keep things fresh.

Typically, my kids will do a week at a time. The problems are quick enough not to feel like a big assignment, so the complaints are kept to a minimum. Also, the manuals get progressively more challenging - Friday's work is usually harder than Monday's, and the end of the book is harder than the beginning. Check out a few sample pages (an option by the product), to get a better idea of the problem difficulty.

Please be kind enough to indicate if reviews are helpful.

3-0 out of 5 stars A mixed bag
We've used this workbook to supplement our homeschool math curriculum (Shiller), which is more advanced but at a different pace than Daily Math Practice. For example, our math doesn't do fractions yet but does do 3 and 4 digit addition with carrying. My son's reading skills aren't up to this workbook, but his geometry skills far surpass it. His mental math and Roman numerals are ahead of the book, as well.In addition, the format is boring: black and white, no use of manipulatives (though you can use your own ideas, of course), no variation on the pages at all.

Every child is different, as is every math curriculum.I wouldn't purchase this again, but if my son was still in school and needed practice, this workbook would be fine.Math To Learn/Math On Call/Math At Hand, along with their Teacher Resource Books, are far better for parent/family resources and practice of skills. We use them frequently and can't recommend them highly enough. But Daily Math Practice is quick and reinforces some skills, and it does help with knowing where they "should" be for homeschoolers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great foundational book for homeschoolers
I am happy with the structure and content of this workbook and all the other grade level books by this publisher; I used them in first and second grade with my son and plan to do the same with my daughter.
I piece together my curriculum from lots of different sources, using this publisher as my primary source for geography, math, spelling and language.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Choice for Beginning Math Problems - a review of "Daily Math Practie, Grade 1"
I really like this workbook. It is not one of those that's in color, but the layout is simple and clear without a lot of distraction, which is something that not all of the books in this category can claim.

The idea is that you do 5 problems per session, with a small quiz at the end of five sessions to make sure the information 'stuck'. We have found (and I'm now starting this book with my second child) that 5 problems are so easy and fun that we sometimes do more than one unit a day.

Besides the clear format, the other aspect of this book that I like is that the problems aren't all presented in the same format. For example, right off the bat, they have horizontal arithmetic problems along with a word problems and pictorial problems.

A horizontal problem:
3 + 1 = ____

Word problem :
Tom has one ball. He buys one more. How many does he have in all?

Picture problem:
Well can't paste a picture, but here's an example: The picture will show four pennies and the question will be "How much?"

Four Stars. We have found this an excellent workbook that can be easily understand. Five problems at a time is generally not too much, even for active children like mine. This book however is ONLY a workbook with exercise problems. Parents and others looking for HOW to teach math book will have to look elsewhere. May I suggest "Math for Your 1st and 2nd Grader" by Steve Slavin.Math for Your First- and Second-Grader: All You Need to Know to Be Your Child's Best Teacher

5-0 out of 5 stars Money well spent on this book!
I am so glad that we found this book! Five problems a night makes math FUN, rather than WORK for my child. So much so that he will do a few days worth of problems in one sitting.

The book has variety to keep him interested, and he's learning new skills from it also. I will definitely buy the grade 2 book for next year. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a fun new way to practice math facts
I decided to try this book with 5th and 6th graders who are behind in math and not yet automatic with their math facts. I never even knew how to "play" sudoku until I learned with the students. But it definitely makes it more fun for them to practice the facts. They went through the book quickly and the gains were surprising. At first I thought they were using the sudoku as too much of a crutch but it turned out to be a nice mechanism for checking. I also ordered the fraction sudoku book and I'll try that with some of them soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read book to score over 700
Among a crowded field of several SAT math preparation books, this one will get you the highest score with the least amount of effort. The tips are explained with enough examples and followed up with easy, medium and hard questions. The answer and explanations at the back are also elaborate. 5-0 out of 5 stars Product review
I received this product in a timely manner and in perfect conditionThank you

4-0 out of 5 stars VERY BASIC
I got this book to review over some basics before I went onto the Algebra I book. I took my last college math class, 3 years ago and I am preparing for chemistry in the Fall. I really felt this book was very simple and you can breeze through this book with no problem. I worked on this over 3 days, I went through every chapter and re-worked the problems I got wrong. It wont take long to go through, and you dont even have to dedicate that much time to it either. I am glad I went through it, but it was a lot more basic than what I was thinking it was going to be.
I did find several mistakes throughout the book, which is a hassle when your not sure if you go the problem right. Also the fractions are very small in the book, they really should up the font size for them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Geography wrong and some answer typos
The instructions and most of the information in this book are great and it tremendously helped me prepare for my next step into Algebra, and foremost I learned. The only problem I had was with the information towards the end of the book particularly with the Mayan numerals section.I want to clarify the Mayans dominated the southern part of Mexico, which is in North America, and most of Central America. The author erroneously wrote they were in South America.Mexico, Canada, and the United States of America are in the continent of North America.Central America divides North and South America. The great Incas were the dominate large tribe in South America. I also found many errors. Errors such as problems which did not equal the written answers.I hope this information is corrected in the next version so we do not confuse anymore readers.

5-0 out of 5 stars workbook only, please!
I bought the bundle of Basic Math and Pre-Algebra For Dummies plus the workbook.I started out trying to use them both but very quickly disregarded the book and worked only with the workbook.I figured I would reference the main book if I had any problems but ended up never using it at all.I have yet to receive my copy of Algebra for Dummies so I can't say that it doesn't pick up were this one leaves off, but I'm a little disappointed to see it's not by the same author.

4-0 out of 5 stars Basic Math Refresher
After being out of school for twenty years, I am faced with the challenge of higher math again. This is a great way to get back up to speed. The book explains the basics in easy to understand terms for those just learning or looking to brush up on their skills. The only criticism I have is that there aren't enough practice questions. There are a few, but more would certainly be helpful. All in all this book is definitely worth the money. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Exercises are good, but don't rely on answer key...
I'm not sure if the answer key was just sloppily done, or copied incorrectly, but in either case it's reasonably obvious that it wasn't proofread/edited by someone doing the (rather simple for a numerate adult) problems. It's also difficult to find where to send corrections, which reflects poorly on a supposedly-educational publisher. All in all, though, this book was not a waste of time for my six-year-old, and I guess that's what matters in the end.

4-0 out of 5 stars good supplement
My son seems a little behind in math, I am using many different Singapore Maths from (...), Level 1A and 1B workbooks, the Tests and the Extra Practice and Intensive Practices, on top of this Singapore Math book. I am using this Singapore Math book after doing the other workbooks as further reinforcement, this book has the same feel but the other workbooks lay out the problems a little less intimidatingly somehow. As another supplement, I am happy with this workbook, but I don't use it alone. ... Read more
