Product Description
If you are one of the many parents who are uncomfortable helping your children with math, then Dr. Wright s Kitchen Table Math: Books 1, 2 & 3 are for you!
This three book set starts with counting and covers all of elementary school math. The set provides a step-by-step guide to how you can help your child develop strong math skills and do well in school. It also includes activities and games so that you and your child can have fun while exploring these early stages of your child's mathematical journey.
Book 1 is for parents of children ages 2-8, and covers counting up to 100, single-digit arithmetic, and beginning fractions. It also has sections on geometry, time, measurements, probability, and graphing. This book is an excellent gift for new parents!
Dr. Wright s Kitchen Table Math: Books 2 & 3 continue seamlessly from Book 1, covering the topics that will get your child through elementary school math. Book 2 focuses on arithmetic for multi-digit numbers and fractions. It also has sections on number sense, the history of numbers, and playing with numbers. Book 3 covers the non-arithmetic parts of elementary school math. It covers solving equations and word problems, probability and statistics, graphing, geometry, measurements, time, money, and reasoning.
---Praise for Dr. Wright s Kitchen Table Math---
"After a couple of weeks of playing games from Kitchen Table Math, Book 1, my four-year-old daughter woke up each morning asking 'Can we play math at the breakfast table?'"
- Bob Ogle, father of two
"As a lifelong lover of numbers and a teacher of math for 35 years, I find Chris Wright's Kitchen Table Math to be extraordinarily helpful in helping young children learn numerical concepts and enjoy math. The book is well organized, starting with beginning counting and continuing through the basic arithmetic operations to some geometry and probability. All ideas are clearly explained and readily accessible to adults and children. One of my favorite parts of the book is the number of fun and engaging activities. How I would have loved to have had some of Chris' suggestions to use when my own children were growing up. I have bought copies of this book for my several grandchildren, a great niece and great nephew and for the daughter of a young friend of mine. I highly recommend Kitchen Table Math as a way to help children love working with numbers and recognize that math is a fun and natural part of the world."
- Molly J. Robinson, retired elementary school, junior high and college teacher
"Some of my finest childhood memories are of when my mother rewarded me for good behavior by taking me to our upstairs closet to do a math workbook together. The books had mathematical activities, puzzles, and games, and developed an enjoyment and thirst for mathematical challenges that has persevered to this day. Dr. Wright's Kitchen Table Math Book 1 is probably the best book around today with such uses."

5-0 out of 5 stars You can help your child understand math
A few years ago, a friend gave me this book and asked me what I thought based on my experience teaching math. This review is the condensed version of what I told my friend.

Most people learn math by memorizing algorithms to do specific types of problems and never learn to thinkabout mathematics. In order to excel at math, one needs to learn how to think about math, not just how to solve specific problems. This is exactly what Kitchen Table Math tackles.

The book contains creative, effective, and fun activities that help children think about math in a concrete way. Each activity focusses on an essential math concept and aims to give children a firm foundation of the concept.Cheerios and other common kitchen items are used as manipulatives which use all the child's senses.

My friend used this book on his two children and had great success. If you want to help your child gain a firm understanding of math, try using this book. You will have to spend some time reading the book and thinking out the activities, but it should be well worth the effort.

I noticed that two more Kitchen Table Books came out recently.I am looking forward to seeing them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wish I had this book years ago!
I was given this book by my friend who home-schools her kids. She absolutely swears by it, so I thought I'd give it a try with my kids.It is sooo helpful!I used to struggle to find ways to do math with my oldest, who's 9 now, that both of us would enjoy, but this book is full of great activities and games.I wish I'd had this five years ago!

4-0 out of 5 stars Sir Cumference a Teaching Tool
I used this book as a teaching tool to end-of-year 4th-Grade students as an introduction to Circumference, Diameter, and Radius, something they will study more in depth in 5th Grade. I put the book on a document camera so students could see the larger-than-life illustrations while I read aloud the story. They loved it. I think any age students like to be read to and they are never too old for a picture book. More important: Anything that can help students remember concepts earns accolades from me! The book got its best review the next day as we were continuing our Math lessons. As students were recounting terminology, I found they were using elements of the book to do so. I heard: "The measurement across a circle is ... Lady Di of Ameter, Diameter." And, What is radius? "Oh yeah, their son, Radius, was about half as tall as his mom Di of Ameter, so the radius goes from one point on the circle to the center point." The only reason I don't give it a full 5 stars is that I thought it was a little lengthy to use as an aide to a lesson. It took more time than I wanted, but it probably was well worth the time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sir Cumference is so smart!
This is a great book. It has lots of mathematical elements while also being fun for middle school students. I, as a math teacher, enjoyed reading this book to my students. The math terms that tie the book together are very creative in the way they are presented. If you are reading this book to a class of middle school students, it will take from ten to fifteen minutes to read completely if the class is attentive. The math described in the book can help students to remember those terms later.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great early math book
Excellent book for what I wanted. A kindergarten and a second grade class both enjoyed the story and they were exposed to math. My five year old also enjoys it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sir Cumference Reigns Supreme
I love all the Sir Cumference books.

I found one in a used bookstore and bought the rest on Amazon.

My 9 year old son can't get enough of math, and these help him (and his mom) remember the terms easily--terms no doubt he will have on a test some day at school.

Another recommendation for your math loving child--What's Your Angle, Pythagoras?

And yet another--Fun With Roman Numerals.

4-0 out of 5 stars Clever book

2-0 out of 5 stars Overpriced for inferior quality
This book is awkwardly stitched together from Wikipedia content, but costs the same amount ($10) as the Kindle edition of the Schaum's outline. For the money, I find the Schaum's to be more comprehensive and easier to read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Reference Book
This is a very good reference book for high school students going into college and college students working on a technical degree.I am an engineer and use it for the math equations I sometimes forget.I would recommend purchasing this book if you work in a technical area.

5-0 out of 5 stars most useful book ever
I got this book as a 1st year undergrad in 1980. Today I'm a professor and I still use it every day.I've been through three copies. The oldest one is falling apart badly, but I still have them all: one upstairs at home, one downstairs and one at my office. Integrals, Taylor series, vector identities, special functions, transforms ... it doesn't have everything you'll ever need, but it comes as close as possible for a book you can carry in your laptop case. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Guide for any Engineering Student.
This handbook is a must have for any junior level or higher engineering major or any major that deals with advanced mathematics. It contains detailed and easy to understand charts and tables ranging from College Algebra and Trigonometry to Advanced Calculus and Differential Equations. It is also a must have reference book to anyone needing to access to advanced mathematics formulas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Text for Undergrads or Grads
This book has everything in it as far as formulas. If you are looking for examples, this is not the book for you.I had some difficulty remembering Integration by Parts for my current Grad class. This book helped out.It also helps out for all those pesty integrals and derivatives as well.I've been using this book for 2 months in my classes.Although I don't always use it, I never leave home without it.

Also covers Taylor and Fourier Series, Laplace Transforms, Statistics, and other stuff as an engineer I've never had to learn and never plan to. ;) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource
This dictionary is very helpful. The definitions are not to wordy and are easy to understand.I am a pre-service teacher and purchased this as a resource for my future classroom.I received the book very quickly and it was in great condition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference book
This book is great for childrens as well as adults. Ihighly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT TEACHING TOOL
I am a math teacher and I use this book in my classroom. The children borrow the book during class to learn a little extra about a concept or review a definition of a word. The dictionary is very kid-friendly. I gifted several of the dictionaries for my neice and nephews at Christmas. Math is so important for students to be successful in school. This book is a education support tool for our future engineers, air traffic controllers, food service workers, football game refereesetc...:)

5-0 out of 5 stars I wish I'd had this book when I was a student
I stumbled across this book by chance on Amazon while searching for something else.My two kids are in fourth and fifth grade. The fifth grader has a lot of frustrations with math, so I often need to help her.I bought this book after reading the reviews, and I am so glad I did!It simplifies math so that in the span of a few seconds, I can quickly and easily remember how to perform mathematical operations that I haven't looked at in years.I can often remember the generalities of an operation, but not the specifics. This book helps me to remember the details that time has seemingly erased.

Math was not my thing when I was growing up, though I always managed to make "Bs" and "Cs".If I'd had this book and a parent or teacher to help guide me, perhaps I would have made better grades and had more confidence.Students who are adept at math will probably find they can use this book independently.Students with weaknesses will likely need the guidance of a parent to help them along, but the beauty is that the dictionary makes it so much easier for the parents to help the student. For example, I often forget the correct terms or definitions when helping my kids with math (e.g., words like "divisor").I find myself trying remember precisely what the divisor is since I haven't encountered that word in many years. Now, I can quickly look it up in the dictionary and confidently assist my kids with their homework, feeling certain thatI'm telling them correct information.

I bought a couple of other math dictionaries targeted to students in addition to this one, thinking that I might get the best of all worlds that way, but this one is by far the best for both kids and adults. This is the book to spend your money on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Big Help for Parents and Kids!
This is a great reference manual for middle school students as well as their parents. Definitions and examples are given for each math concept. ... Read more

Right Brain Math helps numbers reveal secrets to their friends, the students. Right Brain Math includes the big pictures and plays with little parts of numbers, it plays with the whole times table and sometimes just the ones-digits number (we call them the Ones-ies) patterns.Right Brain Math creates a positive attitude about math.Right Brain Math Makes Friends with NumbersEZ Times Table teaches by playing with fun patterns. Traditional math instruction relies mainly on rote memory work. Many kids get turned off to math. EZ Times Table is a revolutionary visual and auditory introduction to math. 5-0 out of 5 stars An Innovative Approach to the Times Tables
Learning the times tables becomes a game as children learn fun patterns while filling in the EZ TIMES TABLES charts.Instead of learning one math fact at a time (which is not only difficult but highly inefficient), children learn a pattern for the entire table.Table by table, they construct a times tables matrix for tables 1-10.Pattern play develops number sense.EZ TIMES TABLES will intigue your child.

Highly recommended as a resource for both parents and teachers.
