1-0 out of 5 stars False sense of security
Sample tests gave a false sense of security - they were much too simple and did not represent the true difficulty level of the actual 0061 test taken in January 2008. Do not be misled. The book should be re-written with more difficult and truly representative tests.

2-0 out of 5 stars Review of Praxis II Math by Mel Friedman
Initially, I thought this book would be a great study reference. Then I started to realize there were mistakes in it. The first one I noticed immediately, so it was no big deal. The second caused great consternation, and it took some time for me to work on the surrounding math to confirm my impression - it was wrong.

And this was in the first chapter I worked on (Geometry).

2-0 out of 5 stars Too many erorrs
Sorry, but I found too many errors. Some were typos, but at least one was such that I am willing to bet the author's logic was wrong.I contacted the publisher, but got no response. Problems were done without reference to the graphic calculator, and yes the actual exam was MUCH harder.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I had high hopes for this book as a friend had told me how great the REA review materials are, but I was very disappointed.I gave it 3 stars over 2 only because there are so few review books for this exam, and I appreciate the effort!

Good points:Exercises are available for most sections (but not all) and there are 3 full-length practice exams.

Bad points:This book is filled with typos, distractingly so.I suppose it's a good test of your math knowledge to be able to find them, but if I did not understand an answer or explanation, I had no confidence that there wasn't a typo involved.Having just taken the exam today, I can say with authority that the practice exams in this book are much too easy. Also, some of the questions didn't seem appropriate. For example, there are a few questions that require Z-score table lookups, which aren't included with this book nor are they with the actual Praxis II exam.I would much rather see questions involving logic I might actually encounter during the actual exam. Also, some of the questions require math knowledge not included in the review materials, which I found frustrating as I had to search frantically for other sources to explain things.

I wouldn't say don't buy this book; there are so few materials available for this test that you should really study everything you can get your hands on.Just be aware that if you use this as your sole review book and you aren't a math genius or it's been a while since you've taken math, I don't think it will give you good practice for the exam.

The CliffsTestPrep Praxis II: Mathematics Content Knowledge Test (0061) (Cliffstestprep Praxis II) also has an okay level of review material, probably better than this one, but no practice exercise and its practice exams are also way too easy.As I mentioned in my review over there, I found that the "Complete Idiot's Guide" and "For Dummies" books were actually quite helpful.I'd suggest reviewing the material in this book (and the CliffsTestPrep one) and then using other more specific books in areas you are weak in.

2-0 out of 5 stars not so good...
I am very disappointed by this book. I am taking the test in a week, and began going through this book a couple of weeks ago. It is FULL of typos and errors. It is poorly organized, lacking consistency. Explanations are often confusing or harder than they have to be. This book needs SERIOUS editing in order to be useful - I'm wondering how the company could have let the book go to print with all the errors it has.

I found the practice tests useful, although they had some redundant questions, and they too contained typos and errors and even a couple of questions that didn't make sense (eg. one question asked for the domain and range but the answers were just of the range, one question asked to "solve the triangle" but gave just one of the missing parts in the answer choices.

I'm trying another test prep book for this coming week - I hope it is better written and edited.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spectrum Test Prep: Grade 1 : Test Preparation
This Spectrum Test Prep: Grade 1 : Test Preparation is great to introduce your child/relative to multiple choice questions. My daughter just started first grade and is ahead already compared to the average first grader. I use this test prep to get her familiar with standarized tests and Spectrum is the Nation's #1 school testing company.

You should use the book "What your First Grader Should Know by Hirsch" first and just use the Test Prep to reinforce test-taking skills. There are examples and timed exercises. Subjects include reading, math and an answer key is included.

This will get your first grader over the hump of taking a standardized test and will build confidence in timed test exercises. I recommend it!

4-0 out of 5 stars preparation for what may lay ahead...
Since I homeschool and do not have to require my son to take any tests while a student I believe it is important to give him the opportunity toexperiment with samples of what testing is like in order to prepare him forany future testing which may come up with in his education experience outside our own. This book has many positive qualities that can assist withtesting comprehension: filling in answers like that on a public school testand many questions formated as state tests would by offering multiplechoice.Although most of the questions are manageable I found some to be abit confusing for myself as well as my son. This is a new format for uswhich may be part of the reason for any unsure perception of the material. I would recommend taking a look at the prep book before purchase to ensurethis style is right for you and your child. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Arco Gre Gmat Math Review by David Frieder
This is the best book yet for my math phobia!I am switching careers and need to take the GMAT again. The book is written in a simplified way that even I can understand.Never thought that math could be fun.Buy it, you'll like it...

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT
I've always been a math person, but because I passed all of my math requirements for college, I never took a single math class in college. But 5 years after graduating, I realized that I wanted to pursue business school, so this was one of the books I picked out mainly to brush-up on my math. WOW, THIS IS SUCH AN AWESOME BOOK. It covers the BASICS, but trust me, if you don't know them, you're completely screwed. There were plenty of rules I had forgotten and this book covered them ALL. And it even gives you GREAT practice on the yucky data-sufficiency questions. Sure the problems aren't extremely challenging, but again, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BASICS. SO GET THIS BOOK, YOU WON'T REGRET IT.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book, but some wrong answers
I've read just up till part 2 of this book and the basics and examples plus exercises are great. however, i was working on problem 15, pg 134 and the answer should be -21 instead of -20 for a solution of x<-20. haven't read the rest, but guess you have to trust your own solutions are times. happy reading !

3-0 out of 5 stars Probably GOOD for GMAT but definitely NOT for GRE
I don't have this book but I've read its table of content. The material is TOO EASY for GRE in Math.Probably it is good for your GMAT but definitely not for GRE.It does not contain much information about Calculus and Algebra (well, it does contain elementary algebra which is not useful for GRE).If you're preparing for GRE in Math, do not choose this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars !!!
I found this book very useful as first step in GMAT Math. Zero step was math refreshener, but ARCO math is perfect to go into GMAT Math orbit. ... Read more
