1-0 out of 5 stars Overpreparation to a level of being useless
Barron's is considered a solid book, but truly it's just a waste of time.
I used four different books to prep for this test. Barrons by far was the hardest, and not because it is best preparing you, but because it is preparing you for stuff much much more difficult than the real test, for stuff not even on the test!
The organization of the explanations etc are poor, and I'm really disappointed in this book.
The practice tests do not represent the real test at all!
I used the college board book and took the actual test. It is very different.
I recommend the Princeton Review and the college board book.
Don't buy this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful!
This was a very helpful book when I sat down to study for my SAT math 1 subject test. Each chapter is very detailed and includes example questions, explanations, and practice questions. There are also full practice tests in the back of the book, which really helps when trying to get acquainted with pacing and time. This book was a great success overall, and I really recommend it for anyone wanting to take the math 1 SAT subject test.

3-0 out of 5 stars Eh..so-so
I did every practice question that review book had to offer, and then some. I was hoping for something in the 700s, but, of course, I just missed the mark by 10 pts. 690. A so-so review book. I would recommend purchasing the book of released exams by college board because the practice tests in the back of the Barron's is inaccurate.

3-0 out of 5 stars TOO Detailed
My recommendation:
If you're a math person, this is the book for you.
If you're not a math person, do not get this book (unless you have a ton of time on your hands; and as long as you don't get too down on yourself when you're receiving 100-150 lower on practice tests than you will on the real thing)

Going into the real exam, I figured I was going to get around a 650 because I had miserably failed all of Barron's tests.Luckily, I am not a nervous person going into exams, but if I was, I would have been VERY nervous about this test because Barron's terrified me.Not being a math guru, I did not understand some parts of this book initially. It certainly covered all the topics, but I think it went too detailed into some parts--distracting from the main points.I was very happy to get my 720.I am sure my relatively high score was due to my becoming accustomed to the difficult material in Barron's.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful Study Tool
I used this book in conjunction with the Kaplan Mathematics IC and IIC study guide and the Real SAT Subject Tests and I thought it worked really well. The tests in this book are invaluable and though a bit hard, give very good preparation for the test.

I just took the Math IC test yesterday and I didn't encounter any questions I didn't know so that to me says this book was a success. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars liked it
I'm not a specialist in Math subject tests but the book really helped me. I consider it complete and inteligible.

5-0 out of 5 stars How to get an 800
This is the best SAT II math 2 prep book out there. Although the problems were a bit challenging and some trivial than of the actual test, this book is perfect. It provides lucid explainations and it is very thorough. Also, don't be too discouraged when you don't do too well on the practice tests. For me, I scored around 670 on my first practice test and my highest score in this book was 720. On the day of the test, I was able to finish the test with around 10 minutes left over. I only missed one problem and omittied a question, nevertheless I still scored an 800. This book with unequivocally is the best there is for SAT II Math level 2.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mathematics pre-calculus, Sat 2 subject test
This book done thoroughly is the key to an 800.Every child who completes it has gotten a perfect score. It's also a great review for the pre-calculus final.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hard but worth it
I used the book to prepare for the Math SAT II after being told that it was way harder than the actual test. It was! The highest score I got in the book was a 690 (Itook four of the seven practice tests), but on the actual test I got an 800. I can't not recommend the book after getting that score, but I'm pretty advanced in math and for anyone who has more difficulty, the book would have been very frustrating because it covers more complex material that may not be on the actual test. A great review for anyone determined to get the top score. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars No effect
I worked through all the math level 1 sections of this book but it had virtually no effect on my score. I took a practice test before this and I got a 690. After completing this book I got a 700. Maybe it's just me but this book had no benefit.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Score Predictor
The book was great for review, and covered all the required materials that came on the exam. It made things simple and straightforward-which is good. The practice exams in the back are great predictors for your actual score. I got the same score on the actual exam as the practice one. All in all, a good review book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great review!
Ideally this book should help me with the Math Subject Test Level 1 right?

Well it did...sort of.

But it helped me more with practicing my math skills, memorizing formulas and reviewing all my math knowledge.

This book helped me for the SAT and ACT as well. And it helped me with the subject test as well :)

If you want to practice your math skills, THEN BUY THIS BOOK.

Why the one star less?

Some explanations are very assuming like..."Oh it's 5 because OBVIOUSLY it's not 4!"
You're left scratching your head. Eventually, I figured 99% of these out but still, explaining the answer is the book's responsibility...not mine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Much better than the College Board Books
I originally bought the College Board books for my boys along with the Chemistry book by Princeton Review in a first purchase. They could not stand the College Board version of this book and asked if I could please get the Princeton Review version. They really enjoy the approach Princeton Review takes, realistic and explanatory, as opposed to the College Board's method of simply showing the answer and not how it was arrived at.Hope this review helps you!

1-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't reflect real exam
I'd like to talk about only math level 1 section of this book, which I used. As most other math level 1 prep books this book also doesn't reflect real exam. Its practice is very very very easy compared to real examination. Also, many parts that are labeled as "Math level 2 only" are tested in Math level 1 as well. So don't use this as your guide during prep. Just take a look at drills and go through chapters. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Math for Smart Test Takers
I have to take a math test for my certification for Education. It has been several years since I was in high school. This book is a great refresher for me and is helping me to prepare for the test that I must take soon.

1-0 out of 5 stars What could be worse than a math book full of wrong answers?!
The scenario is almost like a fictitious evil plot--a math book with wrong answers!I picked this up for my sons who are preparing for the SAT.I have plenty of other resources, but I find it useful to get various perspectives and get a variety of problems to work through.I was reading through and working some of the problems myself seeking good examples to demonstrate the concepts.I repeatedly found egregious errors in the solved examples--not a simple typo, but wrong values carried throughout the solution! To top it off, I found misspellings. Those are bad enough, but could almost be forgiven, but blatant math errors?!
Don't even take this book if someone offers it for free; it's negative training!

1-0 out of 5 stars SAVE your MONEY, TIME,and EDUCATION
I haven't read this book but I am familiar with their high school prep book for catholic students. There are at least 100 incorrect answers in the book. They even give an incorrect formula for the area of a circle. If a student really uses this book they will miss every math question that involves circles!I would have put this review under the title of that book but the new edition is not out yet, and its not taking reviews.Get any book but these!

1-0 out of 5 stars horrible!do not buy this book
This book is terrible. In addition to the many errors it is far toosimplistic.I will be returning this book.Arco should be ashamed.Iwish I had seen Eric's review before i bought this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor!
This book contains multitudinous mistakes, and if an unsuspetingtest-taker is not careful, he is sure to learn frequent fatal falsehoods. Great examples are (x²+y²) = x²+2xy+y², and (x-y)² = x²-y² (p. 178). Furthermore, 93, 87, 57, and 51 are not prime, as page 33 asserts. Finally, the book asserts that if x = -1, then x^4 -x^3 -x^2 - x - 1 = 2. This is not the case; it equals 1.This books has caused must grief, bewilderment, and confusion. It is fortunate that it was designed forsmart test takers, for dumb test-takers will need all their wit to overcomeits errors.Unfortunately, no wit will be left for the test. ...
