Product Description
"It is a custom in some quarters to represent Mohammadan mysticism as merely a late importation into Islam, and an altogether alien element in it. But however much later Islamic mysticism may have derived from Christian, Neo-platonic, and Buddhist sources, there is little doubt that the roots of mysticism are to be found in the Koran itself. The following verse is an instance: God is the Light of the heavens and the earth. His light is like a niche in which is a lamp, the lamp encased in glass--the glass as it were a glistening star. From a blessed tree is it lighted, the olive neither of the East nor of the West, whose oil would well nigh shine out even though fire touched it not! It is light upon light! (_Koran Sura_ 24). " ... To create a pulsing picture, and a worthy frame in which to perpetuate it, The Howitzer of 1931 so aspires! Not of men who, like Hannibal, marched for vengeance; nor who, like Alexander, tuned the cadence of drums to conquest; but a Saga of men who marched from the Corps parade ground into destiny's broader fields, advancing, achieving, under a common Oriflamme - Duty, Honor, Country. This Saga sings not alone of those who have stormed the threshold of Valhalla; but also of those, once of the Corps, whose onward march and in national service has added sustaining glory to American ideals and American destiny.Contains photographs of graduates, cadet classes, staff members, scenic views, and other aspects of Academy life. Also includes histories of the academic departments, writings on Academy history and tradition, coverage of major sports, cadet clubs and organizations, special events, summer encampments and training trips, and other information of interest to graduates, underclassmen, and alumni or anyone else interested in this prestigious American institution. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An inspirational book
This isn't just a book about an athlete. Sure, it's a book about a man who defeated poverty and overcame adversity to become one of the greatest Olympic gold medalists.

But Jesse Owens is honest about the turbulenttimes he endured after the Olympics were over. Just as importantly, he alsotells the story about how he almost let his faith in God fall along thewayside. Faith, family, and school are all important given important placesin this book.
