In the first paper, Fermi developed his first theorem of permanent value: that in the vicinity of a world line, space can always be approximated by a pseudo-Euclidean metric (see DSB)., Fermi won the Nobel Prize in 1938 for "his demonstrations of the existence of new radioactive elements produced by neutron irradiation, and for his related discovery of nuclear reactions brought about by slow neutrons." He later was placed in charge of the Manhattan Project at the University of Chicago, where he led the research that gave rise to the first atomic bomb.

(Biography - ) ENRICO FERMI (1901-1954) is an Italian physicist best known for his contributions to nuclear physics and the development of quantum theory.
