From the supplier: Two Nobel Prize winners are urging research and development projects that could help feed the increasing world population. International Council of Scientific Unions head Werner Arber asked the World Bank to finance genetic engineering researches. Similarly, Norman Borlaug pushes for agricultural research in developed countries whose interest in such projects has slackened due to the overabundance of food. It is apparent that environmental groups deter the growth of biotechnology which will be helpful in producing food for the world's hungry populace.

Product Description
The Objective Standard is a quarterly journal of culture and politics written from an Objectivist perspective (Objectivism being Ayn Rand’s philosophy of reason, egoism, and laissez-faire capitalism). The journal is based on the idea that for every human concern—from personal matters to foreign policy, from the sciences to the arts, from education to legislation—there are demonstrably objective standards by reference to which we can assess what is true or false, good or bad, right or wrong. The purpose of the journal is to analyze and evaluate ideas, trends, events, and policies accordingly.

We maintain that the standards of both knowledge and value derive from the facts of reality; that truth is discovered only by means of reason (i.e., through observation and logic); that the factual requirements of man’s life on earth determine his moral values; that the selfish pursuit of one’s own life-serving goals is virtuous; and that individual rights are moral principles defining the fundamental requirements of a civilized society.

We stand opposed to the notion that the standards of knowledge and value are not factual but subjective (feeling-based) or other-worldly (faith-based); that truth is ultimately dictated by majority opinion or a “supernatural” being’s will; that democratic consensus or “God’s word” determines what is moral; that sacrifice for “the common good” or in obedience to “God’s commands” is virtuous; and that rights are social conventions or “divine decrees.”

In stark contrast to these philosophic approaches, ours is a philosophy of reality, reason, egoism, and laissez-faire capitalism. ... Read more

Product Description

Did you know that what you do today can change the world forever?

The Boy Who Changed the World opens with a young Norman Borlaug playing in his family's cornfields with his sisters. One day, Norman would grow up and use his knowledge of agriculture to save the lives of two billion people. Two billion! Norman changed the world!  Or was it Henry Wallace who changed the world?  Or maybe it was George Washington Carver?

This engaging story reveals the incredible truth that everything we do matters! Based on The Butterfly Effect, Andy's timeless tale shows children that even the smallest of our actions can affect all of humanity. The book is beautifully illustrated and shares the stories of Nobel Laureate Norman Borlaug, Vice President Henry Wallace, Inventor George Washington Carver, and Farmer Moses Carver. Through the stories of each, a different butterfly will appear. The book will end with a flourish of butterflies and a charge to the child that they, too, can be the boy or girl who changes the world.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Butterfly Effect for kids....
The Boy Who Changed the World is a wonderful tale of 5 different men in history who, by doing one small or simple thing (or by making one small or simple choice/decision), were able to change the world in a big way.

The book was short enough that my 3 yr old daughter sat on my lap and allowed me to read it to her and it kept her attention.I doubt that she understood it, but she enjoyed listening to the book while the attractive illustrations kept her focused.

The Boy Who Changed the World is a wonderful book for children in the second/third grade and up.I believe my third grader would actually understand that HE could make a difference by one small kindness to a stranger or a friend. It would be a wonderful gift or book to use in Children's ministry. It also makes a great companion for a family that is reading The Butterfly Effect, also by Andy Andrews.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring Book
The Boy Who Changed the World, was a wonderful book to show children the impact they can make on others. The book talks about how different people have impacted the lives of others. The book would be better to read to children in 2nd grade and up. Any younger and I don't think it would hold the child's interest. My 4th grader really enjoyed the book, and it opened up a discussion on how he could impact others around him. The illustrations in the book were amazing, and my kindergarten enjoyed looking at the pictures. My older child was able to make the connection between the illustrations and the story. I think this book should be read in schools everywhere. Let's teach children that they are important, and that they can make a difference in the world one day. Andy Andrews ends the book by saying "That means You can be the kid who changes the world". What an awesome thing to teach kids.

4-0 out of 5 stars Time to change the world!
"The Boy Who Changed The World" by Andy Andrews. The graphics in the book are great. They are very vivid and child friendly. The storyline of the book is very inspiring to both adults and children. Who doesn't want to be empowered to change the world.I reviewed a digital copy of this book and I am eager to purchase this one to give out for gifts. It's a must have in any children's library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
This book is not only beautifully illustrated, but it has a great story too.Was it the boy who changed the world, or all the people that helped to influence his life?It this generation of 'Me, Me, Me!', it is nice to see a book that can celebrate accomplishments by the many people who contribute to them.

3-0 out of 5 stars good message but confusing to read
the author is an inspirational corporate speaker, and the book's message is "everything you do matters," like the back jacket says. unfortunately, the story was a bit confusing to follow. also, (this could be a pro or a con, depending on your religious or non-religious preference), there is a reference to god, though i wouldn't say this is a christian-themed or a religious book.

the story begins with norman borlaug, then connects to henry wallace, george washington carver and others. the pictures are beautiful, but i don't know... it felt weirdly complex for a picture book, even though the word count wasn't that high. the book's simple message was too complicated to follow. ...
