Not referring to the TV show.
If any of you are wondering if this is a novelization of the Saturday morning 70's live action sci-fi show wonder no longer... because it's not. Paul R Ehrlich and Dennis Pirages are professors who wrote a book back in 1974 called Ark II: Social Response to Environmental Imperatives. This is that book and it is essentially a study in social/environmental sciences (which makes the title rather obvious).

Paul R. Ehrlich made a name for himself with Population Bomb in 1968, which was a pretty slim paperback. Ark II is a bit bigger and delves into how environmental issues can be factored into causes such as general population growth, per-capita demand and inefficient use of technology. Definitely not for the faint of heart. If I recall correctly the book is actually well made for its modest size with a nice hard cover and dust jacket.

While this book is still considered good reference material in the field by universities it doesn't have any connection to that cool futuristic RV with that guy flying around in a jet pack with a talking chimpanzee. And no... we're not talking about BJ and the Bear. Fortunately the entire series of the Saturday morning TV show, Ark II, is scheduled to be released on DVD in Novenber 2006. So if you were looking at this because of the show at least you can get the DVD later. If you are a social sciences major and don't care about some silly show then this book should still suit your fancy, even if the science is a little dated. ... Read more
