Product Description

In today's fast-paced world, creative people are as eager as ever to pursue their artistic passions, but many of them simply don't have enough time. Catering to this modern dilemma, we've concocted the perfect remedy for over-burdened artists. The Daily Book of Art includes a year's worth of brief daily readings and lessons about the visual arts that entertain as they inform. Ten exciting categories of discussion rotate throughout the course of a year, giving readers a well-rounded experience in the art world. From color psychology and aesthetic philosophy to the proverbial argument over whether elephants really can paint, art-starved readers will encounter a broad range of inspiring subjects. The book also features a ribbon bookmark so readers can keep their place throughout the year. The ten categories of discussion include Art 101, Philosophy of Art, Art Through the Ages, Profiles in Art, A Picture’s Worth 200 Words, Art from the Inside Out, Art Around the World, Artistic Oddities, Unexpected Art Forms, and Step-by-Step Exercises.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative art book
What a great book! Each page offers interesting information regarding art, whether it be about artists, museums, techniques or even interactive exercises in drawing. I'm not through reading it yet, but what I have read is really interesting. I have learned so many things, I feel like I have taken an expensive college class without the high cost. I'd like to see more subjects included in other Daily Books (hopefully this will be a series...hint hint publisher), such as music (which I would love to learn more about also) and religions of the world. I bet there are 365 different religions that we could learn about. It's nice to see a collaboration of numerous writers/artists in one book, it gives you so many different perspectives. Anyway, enjoyed THIS book a lot and am looking forward to other books along this line.

5-0 out of 5 stars the daily book of art
As a beginning artist the book is extremely helpful in that its style is simple enough, yet very informative.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I love this book. It is very well written and very interesting. I definitely recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
Wanting to broaden my knowledge of not only history of art but the subject in general I went in search of Art books and I came across this book.I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, it's a rather small book so I figured there couldn't be much in depth coverage of anything since the subjects are limited to just a single page but there's actually quite a bit of information in here.

Each page of this book contains a writing that falls into one of the following categories:
Art 101 with Elizabeth T Gilbert
Philosophy of Art with Colin Gilbert
Art Through the Ages with Amy Runyen
Profiles in ARt with Rebecca J. Razo
A pictures worth 200 words with Dylan Gilbert
Art From the inside out with Sharon Robinson
Art Around the World with Sharon Robinson
Unexpected Art Forms with David J Schmidt
Artistic Oddities with Gabriel Guzman
Step by Step Exercises

Of course with such a small amount of space for each subject there's no in depth coverage or discussion of any of the subjects. However, you get some nice highlights and entertaining discussions that will make you stop and think and may inspire you to go in search of other resources for more information. At the very least some of these writings will prompt some lively discussion. You'll also get a chance to flex your artistic skills in the form of drawing and sketching using the Step by Step exercises that appear at each 10 day interval in the book.

Sprinkled throughout the book you'll find Questions to Ponder, Fun Facts and Try This boxes along with some beautiful photographs and illustrations. This is a really well done book that is a must have for anyone wanting to get acquainted with or broaden their overall knowledge of the art world.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Gift Book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Oxford textbook of public health, 4th Edition, 2002
This is a three volume "heavy" textbook, both in weight but certainly also in the scope of its content and the basis for learning public health from an international perspective. This fourth edition is dedicated to professor Walter W Holland, who was the original founding editor of the textbook first published in 1984. The present editors are affiliated with UCLA School of Public Health, Department of Public Health at the University of Glasgow, Department of Community Health at University of Auckland and National Institute of Health and Nutrition in Tokyo.
The first volume presents the scope, the second presents the methods and the third the practice of public health with a total of 101 chapters from close to 200 international contributors
Each chapter is extensive both in its research, details and scope with relevant references and suggested bibliography. It is truly comprehensive in its international scale and the editors must be congratulated for making a clear, consistent and easy read textbook. The subject of bioterrorism with reference to the antrax scare and other possibilities in the wake of the Twin Tower attack is reviewed from a public health aspect. The index extensive.
My own interests of child public health, adolescence, disability and mental retardation were well rewarded with fine chapters and a scholary discussions of even the current classifications of disability, handicap and intellectual disability. The chapter on adolescence had fine suggestions for health policies on a local and global basis.
This is an important book that should be found at every public health library and at the side of specialists in public health medicine.

Excerpt: Arnold Friberg (born December 21, 1913 in Winnetka, Illinois,) is an American illustrator and painter noted for his religious and patriotic works. He is perhaps best known for his 1975 painting The Prayer at Valley Forge, a depiction of George Washington praying at Valley Forge. He is also well known for his 15 "pre-visualization" paintings for the Cecil B. DeMille film The Ten Commandments which were used to promote the film worldwide and for which he received an Academy Award nomination. He has been admitted as a lifetime member of the Royal Society of Arts. He also did a series of paintings depicting scenes from the Book of Mormon for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Friberg was born to a Swedish father and a Norwegian mother. His family moved to Arizona when he was three years old, and he began drawing cartoons by the time he was seven. Also when he was seven Friberg's parents joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Friberg was baptized a member of the LDS Church at age eight. While in high school, Friberg learned by meeting with the artists at the The Arizona Republic, and earned money by creating signs for local businesses while being apprenticed to a local sign painter. After graduating from high school, Friberg attended the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, working for various local printers doing commercial art while attending school and for several years afterward. This included calendar work for the Northwest Paper Company, for whom he created paintings of Mounties. Friberg has created more that 300 paintings depicting Mounties, and he is the only American made an honorary member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). In 1940, Friberg moved to New York City and began studying as a... More: http://booksllc.net/?id=7228324 ... Read more
