From the supplier: The region of the US known as the Southwest has troubled many geographers because of the difficulties inherent in delineating precisely this particular region. Many have concluded that it is a difficult task to identify and describe the geographic features that make this region distinctive because they are elusive and changing. They only agree on its parameters, diversity, plants, animals, soils, and topography.

Product Description
''The King is Alive!''...The journey of the photographers Robert Huber and Stephan Vanfleteren began in New York somewhere along 42nd street. It ended three weeks and eleven states later in Death Valley. Everything the two artists did during their journey, they did dressed as Elvis Presley, the King of Rock'n'Roll. The artists photographed each other, with Presley (Vanfleteren) in black and white, and Elvis (Huber) in color. ''Elvis'' and ''Presley'' crossed the country riding Greyhound buses and subways, hitch-hiking, strolling through malls or ending up in small town bars where strange women embraced them. While as photojournalists they were accustomed to remaining behind the scenes, here Huber and Vanfleteren found themselves suddenly thrust into the spotlight of their own work. What emerges is a hyperreal road movie, a media-damaged update of Robert Frank's "The Americans ", in which two Europeans step into the boundless television screen that is America. Hardcover, 11 x 11 inches, 98 pages, 45 color and 45 b&w illustrations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars what a genius idea !
stephan and robert, both powerful photographer came up with a simple idea making this project unique.
they both challenge their own vision of amerika and have photographed each other wearing elvis clothes along the road from ny to las vegas.
more than a book for the fan of elvis, it's a new photojournalistic view and a item that anyone loving photography should have.
so now, buy it !

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a fun, fun book!
The photos are terrific and the little story behind the project, which is told in the end pages, made me laugh out loud.If only the book weren't so expensive. But if you can afford it, and you have a fondness for seeing jumpsuited Elvis look-a-likes in very un-Elvis situations, you will treasure this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars A humorous and compelling visual story starring The King
Hubert & Vanfleteren Took a month to cross the US dresses like Elvis and photographing themselves, the country and its people. The two different photographic styles complement each other and make this book well worth buying. It shows the US and its people confronted by a "legend", the result is a beautifull and humorous visual story. ... Read more

Excerpt: Robert Lee Vesco (December 4, 1935-November 23, 2007) was a fugitive United States financier. After several years of high stakes investments and seedy credit dealings, Vesco was alleged guilty of securities fraud. He immediately fled the ensuing U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission investigation by living in a number of Central American and Caribbean countries that did not have extradition laws. Charges emerged following the Watergate scandal that linked Vesco with illegal funding for a company owned by Donald A. Nixon (Richard Nixon's nephew). Vesco was notorious throughout his life, attempting to buy a Caribbean island from Antigua in order to create an autonomous country and having a national law in Costa Rica made to protect him from extradition. A 2001 Slate.com article labeled Vesco "the undisputed king of the fugitive financiers." After settling in Cuba in 1982, Vesco was charged with drug smuggling in 1989. In the 1990s he became involved with Donald Nixon again, and was indicted by the Cuban government for "fraud and illicit economic activity" and "acts prejudicial to the economic plans and contracts of the state" in 1996. Vesco was sentenced to 13 years in jail by Cuba. Five months after his death in November 2007 the New York Times reported he succumbed to lung cancer at a hospital in Havana, Cuba. Robert Vesco was born in Detroit, Michigan, where he grew up and attended, and then dropped out of, Cass Technical High School. Excerpt: Sutton Foster (born March 18, 1975) is an American actress, singer and dancer. Foster has appeared in many Broadway musicals, including the Mel Brooks musical Young Frankenstein and Shrek the Musical. She has been nominated for four Tony Awards, winning one for her performance as Millie Dillmount in Thoroughly Modern Millie. Foster was born in Statesboro, Georgia and raised in Troy, Michigan. At age fifteen, she was a contestant on the television show Star Search and also auditioned for the cast of The Mickey Mouse Club. She left Troy High School before graduating (she received her diploma via correspondence courses) to join the national tour of The Will Rogers Follies directed by Tommy Tune. She then attended Carnegie Mellon University for one year, but left to pursue a theatrical career full-time. Her brother is actor Hunter Foster. Foster's first Broadway role was Sandy Dumbrowski in Grease in 1996. She then appeared in The Scarlet Pimpernel and as Star to Be in Annie in 1997. Foster's next Broadway role was Eponine in Les Misérables in 2000. Foster's big break was reminiscent of 42nd Street when, during rehearsals of the pre-Broadway run of Thoroughly Modern Millie at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, she replaced leading lady Erin Dilly. Any apprehension about having an unknown playing the lead in a nearly $10 million Broadway production was proven unfounded when she opened at the Marquis Theatre to primarily rave reviews. Product Description
The Bible has had a profound influence on the diverse cultures of Europe and the British Isles, the Americas, Australia and Africa, and has even left an imprint on Asia. It is a book that has inspired the whole range of human emotion and experience, including some of the finest art and literature. And even in this current age, which often considers itself secular and post-Christian, the Bible remains the biggest seller of all books. The Bible: A History does not attempt to help readers grasp the contents of the Bible. Rather, it helps them to understand the vital role the Bible has played in history over the past 2000 years. Areas covered include: How the Bible Came to Be; The Bible in a Rapidly Growing Church; The Book of the Reformation; and The Bible in the Modern World. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The History of the Bible
This book is amazing! It puts everything in perspective. I know all the bible stories, but i didn't realize how it all was put together. I was very surprised by all the things that have happened to the bible to make it what it is today. I have always taken it for granted.

Also, what makes this a lot of fun to read is the pictures. Every page in this book has either art or picutres of the actual artifacts that they are talking about. Reading about something is great, but I know that I retain the information better when I can connect it with an image.

I reccomend this book to anyone who is loves history, or is just curious about the bible.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bible reader
A great book for learning about how we got the Bible and how the Bible changed the world.

Lots of outstanding pictures.

Written by Christians who have worked for Reader's Digest Books--so the writing is clear and easy to understand.

The book is getting wide attention here and overseas, and is even being printed in China. I can understand why. It's a great resource for people who want to get better acquainted with the Bible. And apparently, a lot of people do.

Looks like a coffeetable book. But it reads like a great story.

The book is divided into 2-page spreads, with feature topics like these:

Lost Books of the Bible
The "Almost" Scriptures
Using and Abusing the Bible
Doomsday Specialists
Evidence Supporting the Bible
Bible Trivia and Oddities (my favorite)

A sample piece of trivia is that history scholars suspect that the printer's wife of a German Bible in the 1500s made a women's lib editorial change. The words God spoke to Eve after she sinned was that from now on she would be subject to Adam: "Und er soll dein Herr sein," (and he will be your master). But she changed Herr to Narr--"master" to "fool."

You'll enjoy this book.
