From the supplier: Schaniel and Neale are correct when they say that Polanyi's use of anthropological methodology in economic analysis marks a theoretical breakthrough in contemporary economics. However, Schaniel and Neale err when they dispute Polanyi's intention to apply the notion of reciprocity in economic analysis. Polanyi's use of this notion was implicit and was touched upon in his study of technological interdependence.

From the supplier: Prof. David Hamilton's proposal that institutional economists consider integrating anthropological perspectives in their analyses of economic activity is a step in the right direction. The idea of integrating folkviews and mythmaking into institutional economics is acceptable since it affirms the basic analytical principles first laid out by Karl Polanyi. However, Prof. Hamilton's proposals are flawed on three points: his interpretation of the forms of integration, the applicability of ethnographic methodology and the importance of reciprocity.
