Editorial Review

Product Description
This advanced undergraduate- and graduate-level text by the 1988 Nobel Prize winner first establishes the mathematical backgrounds of the subject, reviews the principles of electrostatics, then introduces Einstein’s special theory of relativity and applies it throughout the book in topics ranging from Gauss’s theorem and Coulomb’s law to electric and magnetic susceptibility. With problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buying for my students
I took Freshman Physics from Schwartz at Stanford in 1975. I came across these reviews while trying to see if his book was still in print.

Schwartz was the clearest teacher I had in my career - and I had some great ones, Marty Perl, Ted Haensch, Mahiko Suzuki, John Whelan, Brian Pippard and Dave Jackson himself for Quantum Mechanics, all great and Schwartz was better. We figured out about week two that he was basing his freshman class on this book.

Schwartz said later that Steve Jobs audited this Freshman physics class. If so, Jobs did not stand out, we were too fascinated and terrified by Schwartz to notice the Apple founder in our midst.

If you know vector calculus and want to really understand E+M, read this book - there is not a wasted word in it.
I'm buying a 3rd copy to lend out to students.

4-0 out of 5 stars Review of Principles of Electrodynamics
Principles of Electrodynamics by Melvin Schwartz is a very well written, very didactic book. The principles of Electrodynamics are clearly shown and the author explanations and demonstrations are rigurous but easy to understand. The book is a very good reference for certain topics of Electrodynamics not so well covered in other text books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptionally lucid.
This book is somewhat famous for its heuristic derivation of the full Maxwell's equations using Lorentz invariance, but every topic is covered in an exceptionally lucid manner, on a par with Feynman at his best. The book is also aneccessary antidote for the excessive detail and overgeneralization of Jackson.

5-0 out of 5 stars Le meilleur livre sur les couscous boulettes

5-0 out of 5 stars A perfect introduction
This book is the best introduction to advanced electromagnetic theory I have ever encountered. The author does a masterly job at simplifying the mathematics without over-simplifying the physics. If you're looking to gaina deep understanding of electromagnetics and its relation to the theory ofrelativity, this book is for you! ... Read more

Product Description
The presence of severe nephritis is a serious adverse prognostic feature of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The book summarises the remarkable amount of information that has been generated in the quest for relief of patients, mostly young women, who have the unfortunate circumstances of having developed severe lupus nephritis. Lupus nephritis pulls together in one reference source the current knowledge regarding the inherited and immunologic abnormalities which have been identified in SLE with specific reference to the development of renal disease and the way in which these factors may impact upon the chronic care of these patients. This book is also an uptodate resource regarding the diagnosis and management of a broad range of abnormalities which are encountered in the population with lupus nephritis. The pathology, the clinical findings and therapeutic knowledge arereviewed, with chapters on the special problems associated with dialysis and transplantation therapy, and pregnancy in the patient with lupus nephritis.Physicians and scientists have been wrestling with the issue of the most effective treatment of this serious, potentially catasrophic, clinical problem for half a century. We must now look to the next century for the advances which can take us one step beyond our present therapeutic strategies. ... Read more

Simplot (January 9, 1909 May 25, 2008) was the founder of the J. R. Simplot Company, an agricultural supplier specializing in potato products, based in Boise, Idaho. In 2007 he was estimated to be the 89th-richest person in America, at $3.6 billion. At the time of his death at age 99 in May 2008, he was the oldest billionaire on the Forbes 400. Born in Dubuque, Iowa, in 1909, he was the third of six children of Charles R. and Dorothy Simplot. A year later, the family relocated a thousand miles (1600 km) west to homestead in the newly irrigated Magic Valley of south central Idaho. After differences with his authoritarian father, Simplot quit school in the eighth grade and left home to strike out on his own at age 14 in 1923. He then worked on a farm near Declo, before getting into the potato and vegetable processing business. By World War II, the J. R. Simplot Company had become the largest shipper of fresh potatoes in the nation. In 1945, Simplot's Soilbuilder/Grower Solutions organization was formed, and Simplot established a canning and dehydrating quick-freeze plant in which employees tested frozen potato products. The Simplot Company is credited with pioneering the first commercial frozen French fry in the late 1940s. In 1953, Simplot patented the frozen French-fried potato, an invention of his scientists that would later make him billions. In 1967, Simplot and McDonald's founder Ray Kroc agreed by hand shake that the Simplot Company would provide frozen French fries to the restaurant chain. Previously, McDonald's restaurants had cut potatoes at each location for fresh French fries, but t...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=1247634 ... Read more
