Product Description
Based on the Gifford Lectures of 1937-8 in Edinburgh, Nobel Prize winner Charles Sherrington's 1940 study addresses the nature of the mind and its relationship to life and matter. The book centres on the writings of the little-known sixteenth-century physician Jean Fernel. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic From an Earlier Generation in Biology
Charles Sherrington was one of the greats in biology during the first half of the twentieth Century. His Gifford Lectures from 1937 summarise the achievements in the bioogical sciences to that date and provide an underlying philosophy. He writes with grace and charm.

The Gifford Lectureship provides an opportunity for its invitees to reflect on "Natural Theology," i.e. theology apart from "revelation." Although Sherrington's book predates the great advances in molecular biology of our own time, the underlying philosophy remains sound. ... Read more
