Kapitel: Heinrich Harrer, Walter Jens, Hans Luther, Ernst Nolte, Julius Wagner-Jauregg, Detlev Ganten, Willi Daume, Arthur Mallwitz, Martin Bartenstein, Hans Kloepfer, Christean Wagner, Alexander Dominicus, Walther Tröger, Franz Trenk, Ernst Zindel, Alexander Götz, Ekkehard Schulz, Fritz Fromm. Aus Wikipedia. Nicht dargestellt. Auszug: Heinrich Harrer (German pronunciation: ; July 6, 1912 - January 7, 2006) was an Austrian mountaineer, sportsman, geographer, and author. He is best known for his books The White Spider and Seven Years in Tibet. Heinrich Harrer was born in the Austrian city of Hüttenberg, Carinthia, to a postal worker. From 1933 to 1938 Harrer studied geography and sports at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz. Harrer became a member of the traditional student corporation ATV Graz. He was designated to participate in the combined Alpine skiing competition at the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. However, the Austrian Alpine skiing team decided to boycott the event due to a conflict regarding the skiing instructor's status as professionals. As a result, Harrer did not participate. He won the downhill event at the following year's World Student Games. Harrer was one of the four climbers who made the first ascent of the North Face of the Eiger, Switzerland, with Anderl Heckmair, Fritz Kasparek, and Ludwig Vörg on 24 July 1938. This climb, described by Reinhold Messner as "a glorious moment in the history of mountaineering and a great sensation, since several climbers had previously perished on the Face", made headlines around the world and is recounted in Harrer's book The White Spider of 1958. Immediately after the Anschluss of March 1938, Harrer on April 1, 1938 joined the SS where he held the rank of Oberscharführer (Sergeant), and on May 1, 1938 he became a member of the Nazi Party. After their ascent of the Eiger's North Face the four climbers were received by and photographed with the Führer wh...http://booksllc.net/?l=de ... Read more

Excerpt: Alois Auer, born 1813 in Wels, Austria, died 11 June 1869; was a printer, inventor and botanical illustrator, most active during the 1840s and 1850s. He produced a number of works in German and other languages, including the first regarding the nature printing process. He was the director of the Austrian State Printing House, which produced illustrated volumes of scientific interest. His name, in the full title of the hereditary knighthood he was given, is Alois Auer Ritter von Welsbach (Knight of Welsbach). He is the father of Carl Auer von Welsbach (18581929), the Austrian scientist. Auer's early career began with teaching Italian, acquiring fluency in other languages during his travels in Germany, France, and England. He studied the typographical techniques he would use when he became director of the Printing house of the Viennese court in 1841. The ornamental typefaces he implemented allowed greater flexibility in printing, and the enterprise was to become highly successful, meeting the requirements of 500 European dialects (exclusive of those Russian, Turkish, and Hebrew), and almost 150 languages of the world. The first published work on 'nature printing' (German: Naturselbstdruck), was The Discovery of the Nature Printing-Process. In this he detailed the use of actual plant material, rocks and lace, impressed upon lead or into gum, to demonstrate what he saw as a major advance in the productions of botanical works. His intention was to produce 'artistical-scientific objects', while greatly reducing the problems of producing herbaries and other works of natural history.
