Product Description

“Relativistic Methods for Chemists”, written by a highly qualified team of authors, is targeted at both experimentalists and theoreticians interested in the area of relativistic effects in atomic and molecular systems and processes and in their consequences for the interpretation of the heavy element’s chemistry.

The theoretical part of the book focuses on the relativistic methods for molecular calculations discussing relativistic two-component theory, density functional theory, pseudopotentials and correlations. The experimentally oriented chapters describe the use of relativistic methods in different applications focusing on the design of new materials based on heavy element compounds, the role of the spin-orbit coupling in photochemistry and photobiology, and chirality and its relations to relativistic description of matter and radiation.

This book is written at an intermediate level in order to appeal to a broader audience than just experts working in the field of relativistic theory.

Product Description
This book develops a new physical/mathematical model for the functioning of the human brain, based, not on the modern Newton-Einstein view of physical reality, but on 'information reality'. The work is devoted to the physical-mathematical modeling of (conscious) cognitive phenomena. The most important distinguishing feature of the theory presented here is a new model of mental space, the so-called p-adic hierarchic tree space, and the development of mental analogs of classical and quantum mechanics. Mental processes and more general information processes are handled as a kind of new physical processes. In particular, the procedure of information quantization and an information analog of Bohmian mechanics are developed. Here, mind is a singularity in the mental pilot wave. Applications to neurophysiology, localization of mental function and brain ablations, and psychology (in particular, Freud's psychoanalysis) are considered. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
This book is excellent for either a first-year graduate student or an experienced CFDer. It covers all the necessary contents in a concise way. In particular, the finite volume method is explained well enough for you to write your own CFD code. The last chapter covers development of a unified method, which works for all-speed flows, including both incompressible and compressible flows. I highly recommend this book, not only as a graduate-level textbook but also a permanent reference for your personal library.

4-0 out of 5 stars good for the experienced
hi all,
this book is not appropriate for the beginners to CFD so i don't recommend it for the instructors who are looking for a introduction book. The tensor notationis also not easy to grasp for the not experienced. Besides the language of the book is not clear and not enough to let the reader apply without referring to another book. This is probably because the book has covered a lot of CFD concepts so deep explanation on every item is not provided.
However I would recommend this book for experienced CFD'ers since it covers many concepts and it can be used as a good referring material. ... Read more

Product Description

Stochastic differential equations have many applications in the natural sciences. Besides, the employment of probabilistic representations together with the Monte Carlo technique allows us to reduce solution of multi-dimensional problems for partial differential equations to integration of stochastic equations. This approach leads to powerful computational mathematics that is presented in the treatise. The authors propose many new special schemes, some published here for the first time. In the second part of the book they construct numerical methods for solving complicated problems for partial differential equations occurring in practical applications, both linear and nonlinear. All the methods are presented with proofs and hence founded on rigorous reasoning, thus giving the book textbook potential. An overwhelming majority of the methods are accompanied by the corresponding numerical algorithms which are ready for implementation in practice. The book addresses researchers and graduate students in numerical analysis, physics, chemistry, and engineering as well as mathematical biology and financial mathematics.

2-0 out of 5 stars very partcular topic
I found this book very good for just ONE particular type of Traffic and not very general as it could be deduced from the title. Very good for highways but nothing else, even is quite limited from the Complex System analysis. Very good if that is your main interest (freeways) but take care if you are interested in more complex situations of traffic with more constraints and boundary conditions, like traffic lights, crossing roads and so on. ... Product Description
This book presents Maxwell's equations and the laws ofclassical electromagnetism starting from the equations for theelectric and magnetic fields due to an accelerating classical pointcharge. A microscopic perspective is used to interpret the electricfield due to a current element, the origin of induced electromagneticfields and detached electric field lines, motional electromagneticfields, the mode of action of inductors and capacitors in AC circuits, conduction current flow, the Biot-Savart law, etc. A review ofenergy methods is presented in a way consistent with this microscopicapproach, leading up to discussions of the conservation laws for asystem of spatially separated moving charges and the Poynting vectorhypothesis. After extending Maxwell's equations to field points insidedielectrics and magnetic materials, a brief review of specialrelativity is given stressing those topics that illustrate theessential unity of classical electromagnetism and special relativity.
Audience: This textbook is designed to be used between a coursein classical electromagnetism in which vector analysis has beenintroduced, and an advanced graduate course in electromagnetism. Itwill also be of interest to research physicists and to graduatestudents as a complement to more traditional courses. ... Read more

Product Description
This book discusses the computational approach in modern statistical physics in a clear and accessible way and demonstrates its close relation to other approaches in theoretical physics. Individual chapters focus on subjects as diverse as the hard sphere liquid, classical spin models, single quantum particles and Bose-Einstein condensation. Contained within the chapters are in-depth discussions of algorithms, ranging from basic enumeration methods to modern Monte Carlo techniques. The emphasis is on orientation, with discussion of implementation details kept to a minimum. Illustrations, tables and concise printed algorithms convey key information, making the material very accessible. The book is completely self-contained and graphs and tables can readily be reproduced, requiring minimal computer code. Most sections begin at an elementary level and lead on to the rich and difficult problems of contemporary computational and statistical physics. The book will be of interest to a wide range of students, teachers and researchers in physics and the neighbouring sciences. An accompanying CD allows incorporation of the book's content (illustrations, tables, schematic programs) into the reader's own presentations.
