2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I was not pleased with this book.It seemed more like a dissertation, where a single, narrow theme is being presented and supported, than a book that assimilates information then goes on to show how it applies or interelates to other ideas.

I found Dean Radin's Entangled Minds to be much more illuminating. ... Read more

Product Description
Geometry through its fundamental transformations, the Poincaré group, requires that wavefunctions belong to representations. Massless and massive representations are very different and their coupling almost impossible. Helicity-1 gives electromagnetism, helicity-2 gives gravitation; no higher helicities are possible. Basis states, thus the fundamental fields, are the potential and connection. General relativity is derived and is the unique theory of gravity, thus the only possible quantum theory of gravity. It is explained why it is. Because of transformations trajectories must be geodesics. Momenta are covariant derivatives and must commute. Covariant derivatives of the metric are zero. ... Read more

Product Description
Written by one of the most prominent experts in the field, this text explains the physical nature of the electric and magnetic fields encountered in the study of electrical engineering. The author's approach combines clearly set forth basic theory, easily understood computational methods, and practical engineering applications. This approach does not depend on a difficult mathematical development, rather it seeks to derive its lessons from a simple geometrical method of visualizing fields. An accompanying IBM disc provides a program that enables students to understand and use the author's approach from the outset, including the solution of practical design problems. The text is intended for use in advanced undergraduate electrical and electronic engineering courses, as well as for courses in aeronautical and mechanical engineering.Practicing engineers will find it a valuable resource and reference. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to EM w. emphasis on tubes and slices
The book provides an excellent introduction to both the foundations of electromagentic theory, building up to complex analysis including wave guides and other transmission effects. Starting in a manor accessible tovirtually any reader, the book provides great emphasis on the tube andslice analysis techniques using a style which makes an otherwise dull areaa joy to read. The only university text I've actually read cover to covernon stop. ... Read more

Product Description
This book, first published in 1981, applies the variational principles of mechanics to electromagnetic problems, creating a streamlined, practical method for solving electromagnetic field calculations. The author explains how it is possible to obtain upper and lower bounds to the equilibrium energy by the dual formulation of the electromagnetic equations' structure, in which the coordinates and momenta are interchanged.Other advantages of the dual formulation are considered, and the author provides full details of the basis of the method, an account of Lagrangian mechanics, and a number of fully worked examples. ... Product Description
A large amount of natural or artificially produced physical phenomena are exploited for practical applications, even though several of them give rise to unpleasant consequences. These ultimately manifest themselves under form of malfunction or definitive failure of components and systems, or environmental hazard. So far, manifold categories of inadvertent or deliberate sources have been discovered to simultaneously produce useful effects in some ways but adverse ones in others. In particular, responsible for the growing interest in the last decades for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) has been the progressive miniaturisation and sensitivity of electronic components and circuits, often operating in close proximity to relatively powerful sources of electromagnetic interference. Potential authors of books on the subject-matter are fully aware of the fact that planning production of manageable handbooks capable to treat all the EMC case studies of practical and long-lasting interest could result in a questionable and difficult undertaking. Therefore, in addition to textbooks providing a thorough background on basic aspects, thus being well-tailored for students and those which want to get in contact with this discipline, the most can be made to jointly sustain a helpful and practicable publishing activity is to supply specialised monographs or miscellanies of selected topics. Such resources are preferentially addressed to post-graduate students, researchers and designers, often employed in the forefront of research or engaged for remodelling design paradigms. Hence, the prerequisite for such a class of publications should consist in arousing critical sense and promoting new ideas. This is the object of the present book which tries to rather discuss special subjects, or throw out suggestions for reformulating conventional approaches, than to appear as a reference text. A common motivation encouraged the contributors to bringing together a number of accounts of the research that they have undertaken over the late years: willing to fill the important need of covering EMC topics rather proper to transmission and distribution of electric power than, more usually, to Electronics and Telecommunication Systems.

- EMC topics for Power Systems, at last!
- Investigating EMC features of distributed and/or complex systems.
- A broad body of knowledge for specific applications.
- A stimulating support for those which are engaged in the forefront of research and design.
- An example of how breaking ideas should be encouraged and proudly applied.
- A fruitful critique to overcomplicated and unpractical models.
- A comprehensive resource to estimate the important role of EMC at lower frequencies. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Electromagnetism," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Electromagnetism in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Electromagnetism when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Electromagnetism, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more
