Product Description

Courses in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Organizational Psychology

From its first edition, two important themes have been the foundation of Ronald E. Riggio's Introduction to Industrial / Organizational Psychology. First, because I/O psychology is a field with both a strong scientific base and an applied orientation, the book demonstrates the connection between psychological theory and application: theoretical concepts are shown to lead to useful interventions. Second, this book was designed and written with the student in mind. Whenever possible, the text draws on examples and illustrations from the world of work that students understand - making for an introductory text that appeals to a wide range of students with varying academic backgrounds.

This student-centered, real-world driven text demonstrates the connection between psychological theory and application in the field of Industrial / Organizational Psychology.

1-0 out of 5 stars willing to listen
the book i ordered is an illegal international copy. the ad was posted as an American version, whith the ISBN numbers of the American version. if i was willing to break the law an purchase an international version i could have bought it for a lower price( much lower). the book was in horrable condition( highlights and writing on every page, book literally falling apart).

but i did get it fast and the seller at least was willing to listen to my complaints.

willing to refund $5 of the $55 i spent (although i could have bought the internation version for $7.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent textbook
Landy and Conte have written a refreshing book on I/O Psychology. It is clear and to the point, making it a very easy and engaging reading. It includes all the usual subjects of Industrial Psych: job analysis, performance measurement, staffing, training and development, etc.The Organizational Psych part is very good, too, covering subjects like stress, violence at work, leadership and teams, among others. This book and Muchinsky's are two of the best textbooks on I/O Psych at the present.

5-0 out of 5 stars Satisfied customer

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible Horrible Seller!!
I had a very bad experience with this seller. SBD has zero accountability - I contacted them time and time again to ask about my order, but I got no response at all, until I threatened them with a negative review. I got my book full three weeks into the semester, which gave me a big setback in terms of readings, I now have to deal with a HUGE backlog. You don't want to buy from this seller, I should have read the reviews earlier, I didn't and I paid the price for that! The seller is completely unconcerned about the customer satisfaction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Intro to I/O Psychology
I reviewed this textbook for an undergraduate class I am teaching.I/O psychology is a broad and complex topic area, making it difficult to find a textbook that is good in each subtopic area.Landy and Conte do a great job in all areas by being fairly broad and up to date. They also do a good job of presenting the material from the perspective of the current trends in applied I/O psychology.

I would recommend this text for undergraduate courses and graduate courses too (with supplemental articles added by the instructor). The instructor support materials are a good starting point for creating lectures, exercises, and assignments. The text is student friendly with an excellent layout, good sidebars, and "module" summaries after subtopics within a chapter (making it easy to skip a subtopic). ... 3-0 out of 5 stars This Info's Available Elsewhere
This book contains pretty reliable information about what I/O psych is and what kind of careers can be expected. However, all of this information is readily available for FREE on the internet. The only advantage this book offers is that the info is conveniently collected in one place. If you don't mind paying for a little extra convenience, this book's for you. I recommend doing your own research and saving your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love It Love It Love It!!!
I was a little bit discouraged by a previous review, but purchased the book anyway. This book has helped me TREMENDOUSLY.I was not sure if the MA & PhD in I/O Psych were right for me, but after reading the book, looking up the websites referenced throughout, I have made a very informed decision.I love the actual accounts from I/O Psych majors and what their work is really like.If you know everything about this field, I can see how this book could be a waste of time. But if you're like me and know only the basics, this book will help you not only determine if I/O Psych is the right academic path for you, but also provide guidance as to what career path you could take with this degree.I had no idea how many options I had.And I did try the Google idea and did not come up with nearly as much trustworthy information as contained in this book.I don't know about you, but I don't always believe everything I see online. This book is priceless (and pricey but worth it)!!Thank you Tara L. Kuther whoever you are!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Cut & Paste
Wow, talk about your crappy books! I strongly recommend that you spend 5 minutes searching Google with the parameters "Psychology Industrial Organizational". I can guarantee that you'll find the exact same information contained in this book.

I'm giving this book 2 stars, because it would have some use in a high school guidance counseling office. However, if your not buying for that specific purpose and you don't mind reading off of a monitor you can save yourself a few bucks.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Overview
As a professor having a doctorate in I/O Psychology, this is a very user-friendly book, perfect for sophomore/junior level college students interested in I/O Psych.I always recommend this book to students who want to know more about general graduate school issues and who are leaning towards I/O.I don't require students in my classes to purchase the book, but I do suggest that they buy it, especially since the price suits the typical college student.
One warning about the book, however, is that it includes a section on Human Factors which really is an entirely different field with its own various associations and journals separate from I/O.However, students are most likely not going to be introduced to the Human Factors field unless they research careers in I/O; therefore, its inclusion in the book is not a major issue for me. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The authoritative title on the subject
Muchinsky's book "Psychology Applied to Work" is the authoritative standard for I/O psychology texts. It is well-written and includes just about every facet of the subject. Some greater detail could be found in the APA's 3-volume set on I/O psychology, but this has most of the important items and is about three times less expensive.

5-0 out of 5 stars best intro to I/O book available
This book covers all of the primary topics in I/O Psychology in a very logical order.Dr. Muchinsky's applied experiences have added to the book tremendously, as students can relate the topics in the book to real-world issues.Dr. Muchinsky is also very happy to answer any questions that students may have while using the book. There are also plenty of online materials for students to study with and for instructors to use (lecture notes, outlines, test bank, discussion guides, activities, etc.).Great Book!!!

The only edit I would suggest is to delete the last chapter about management/union relations. This is a very minor field within I/O and does not need to be covered in an intro book.Overall, it is all very well-written and easy for students to understand. My students enjoyed it very much and I will certainly be using it in the future.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I ordered and better
