Editorial Review

Product Description
This work explores three key topics in social psychology: the manner in which labor unions shape organizational behavior, a relationship which has been effectively ignored in the literature; the organization of the union itself, a fascinating test case for the organizational psychologist; and the way in which theories and methods of organizational psychology may assist labor organizations in achieving their goals. Since the union maintains unique characteristics of democracy, conflict, and voluntary participation within a larger organization, the authors offer a detailed study of a union's dynamics, including demographic and personality predictors of membership, voting behavior, union commitment and loyalty, the nature of participation, leadership styles, collective bargaining, among other topics. This is the first book to be published in the new Industrial/Organizational Psychology Series. It will be of interest to not only industrial/organizational psychologists in industry, academia, and private and public organizations, but to graduate students in psychology departments and business schools, and to academics and professionals in business and management studying industrial relations. ... Editorial Review

Product Description
Bridging the gap between social and industrial/organizational psychology, Interpersonal Insight offers a practical, engaging introduction to the social cognition processes that lead to "insights" into ourselves and other people, shaping our perceptions and behavior across a variety of interpersonal situations--from one-on-one interactions to group negotiations.Combining important research results and over 12 years' experience in human resources and training, Manuel London describes how processes common to interpersonal situations in organizations can be harnessed to help link, integrate, and create more effective human resource programs. In so doing, he details how social information processing affects a person's self-image, behavior, and quality of interpersonal relationships.

London proposes a four-step model of insight formation in which a person 1) receives information about oneself and others (called "reflected feedback"); 2) integrates and reconciles the information with other information ("categorization"); 3) interprets the information ("attribution"); and 4) incorporates the outcome into perceptions of oneself and others ("cognitive re-evaluation of self-concept"). "Insight" occurs when an attribution turns into a re-evaluation of oneself or others.London goes on to offer practical suggestions on how human resource programs can be designed to enhance self- or personal insights and suggests ways to elicit and track employees' reactions to major organizational and career changes while facilitating team development.

Packed with case studies and references to the literature, Interpersonal Insight is an important book not only for researchers and professionals in industrial/organizational psychology, but for managers interested in enhancing employee satisfaction and production. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Refund???!!!!!???
My review for this item is a bad one because I purchased the book and then right before it was supposed to arrive in my hands they initiate a refund because they are "unable to fulfill your order." I was not pleased. So my advice to you, be careful, they might have an "inventory discrepancy" and therefore you will not get the book you purchased.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book on I/O Psych
This is the best book available on Industrial/Organizational Psychology. I have used it for several years. I enjoy it, and my students enjoy as well.

Dr. Michael Beitler
Author of "Strategic Organizational Change"

3-0 out of 5 stars Writing uncomplicated but too theoretical
I think that they should have presented a more applicable, rather than theoretical, approach to the foundations of work. However, it covered a variety of topics and the tables were superb. ... Read more
