21. Urban Chaos - Playstation Review - Game Revolution
    The concept is good, the story is even better, and the environment is top notch. But the bad control and poor camera angles mixed with crummy graphics make Urban chaos difficult to play for more than an hour at a time. The whole port feels rushed, and I would have gladly waited a couple more months for a polished version. Review by Shawn Sparks with score.

Throw in some big, immersive environments, and you get a pretty solid game. But while decent on the PC , the PSX version leaves something to be desired. Urban Chaos starts off with a killer intro movie, bringing you right up to speed with the story. It's New Years Eve, turn of the millennium, but that doesn't stop the street gang known as the Wildcats from wreaking havoc and generally making things a little uncomfortable for the citizens of Union City. You play D'Arcy, a rookie cop doing your damnedest to keep crime rates down and prove yourself to your superiors, but the Wildcats are a force to be reckoned with, and the streets are mean. The game has the typical list of moves for a beat-'em-upper: punch, kick, dodge, etc., but what good is being a cop if you can't bust the baddies? So the nice developers at Mucky Foot added the option of knocking them to the ground, cuffing them and hauling them downtown. The arrest option gets the heathen scum out of your face ASAP, which is a good thing when you're trapped in an alley with four armed psychos. You can also give them a good old-fashioned 'frisking' to procure new weapons or health packs. Another new feature is sneaking, because the best tactic isn't always to bust in shooting the place up.

Games Workshop released it without Julians knowledge, and as such there is the odd bug that crops up. Further clues to this include the fact that if you hack into the program, there are a few sprites not used in the game, and the names of a few spells that are never shown. Apart from the very important reason that it is quite an enjoyable game, we have chosen Lands of Lore for several reasons. Firstly, it is another title where the sequel is almost upon us, so if you are a Role-Playing fan and haven't sampled this one yet, it is the perfect time to do so. Secondly, it has recently been re-released and this new release is not only at a budget price (it is included in the Virgin White Label series) but it has also been revamped with the inclusion of a new soundtrack with very respectable voices added. Voices and choices In this new release of LOL no doubt you will all recognise the voice of Patrick Stewart of Star Trek/Captain Picard fame. Whilst he and the other actors definitely add to the appeal of this title it is, nevertheless, very good to see that the written text is still around. So, if for any reason you don't want to listen to the dialogue, you can turn it off and still follow what is going on by reading the text. And the controls in this game give you lots of different options such as separate adjustments for the level of music, sound and dialogue. Other good features include heaps of save games slots and three levels of difficulty.

    Extractions: ATTENTION: I wrote this explanatory paper on chaos theory about five years ago. The number of interested visitors I get constantly amazes me, some 100,000 in just the last two years alone! In the wake of an economic as well as a technological revolution, it's comforting to see the number of intelligent people out there interested in understanding (at some basic level) a pure science such as chaos theory. Due to the incredible success of this essay (numerous online awards as well as a citation in the New York Times ), I have taken it upon myself to write a book that deals with what I feel to be some of the most interesting breakthroughs in theoretical physics to date. In addition to a chapter on chaos theory (approximately four times as long as this introductory essay and with more interesting examples), I have also included chapters on relativity, quantum mechanics, string theory and the universe, and even a section on the applications of such theories and how they're shaping the future of both science and society. The book is a combination of philosophy and theoretical physics (as I believe the two to be related), skipping over the burdensome mathematics of the theories (as most people have better things to do :) in favor of raw explanatory emphasis, interesting anecdotes and helpful examples.
