5-0 out of 5 stars Trigonometry
I was very surprised that the book I ordered was in such good shape and in hardback(thoughgt it would be in paperback). I saved about $112 buying it from Amazon!!

3-0 out of 5 stars somewhat overpriced
Trigonometry hasn't changed in centuries. I compare this book with those I had as a student in high school. It does have far more colourful material. The visuals here are spectacular if set against the plain black and white of my texts. But those were from the 70s. The book also has many worked out examples and scads of exercises.

However, if you need many exercises to work through, this old fashioned offering from Schaum's has those, at a far cheaper price, Schaum's Outline of Trigonometry.

The apparently innovative stuff of the new book is its Eduspace website. Where the reader can go to get more material. The publisher and authors seem to have put a lot of effort here. Maybe this gets you value for $130. Or maybe not.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the one.
I got this book in very good condition. It wasn't rapped in plastic though, but everything was perfect about it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good customer service.
The book was a little more worn than described, but the seller was very quick to respond to any question I had.

2-0 out of 5 stars not such a great deal
Took longer than expected to arrive and was not in the best shape, but it still saved me money to buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Investment
I recommend this book as a quick review of Trig or as extra help along with the textbook for those learning Trig. This book impressed me because it is straightforward and easy to follow.I am terrible at math and I always make dumb mistakes, but this book has all the answers worked out.I used to sit there for hours trying to figure out why I was getting all the answers wrong when I thought I understood how to do the problems. After I bought this book, I was able to see what my mistakes were and correct them within seconds of doing the problem. You might still need help from a person occasionally if you're confused about something in the book, but for the most part this book is better than a tutor because it is more efficient.Instead of waiting for someone else to figure out what your mistakes are, you can just compare your work to the book's!

If you're great at math this book is a great review book because it goes quickly through the essentials in an organized fashion. There is no fluff. If you're trying to cram, it tells you what's most important.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book to prepare for calculus!!
I had this textbook for my precalculus class, almost never attended the clas, but got all A's on the test and A final grade -- all thanks to this book. You literally don't need a teacher, or any other sources, even if you not a science person, you will be able to understand the concepts. It has a lot of sample problems solved in each section, and then at the end of each section, the problems are listed from very simple to moderate to high difficulty. So once you will solve the simple problems, that will give you ability to solve moderate problems, and then difficult ones from there... ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not in condition promised
The condition of this book was quoted as good.It arrived with the binding falling apart and taped together.Definitely not in good shape.

1-0 out of 5 stars NOT What I Ordered -- Listing is for Textbook -- Workbook was shipped.
This listing is for the "Workbook Edition" of a textbook -- in other words, it is for a textbook that includes a workbook, not JUST the workbook.

I received only the workbook.

My order was from lowpricebooksetc

Reading the other reviews, it appears some people have actually received the textbook.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad service
I placed order at midnight, then I send email to both amazon and seller to cancel this order right on the next day morning (that means a few hours later). Then I received email from seller to confirm receiving my order. I replied again to cancel this order. But I still had been charged and deliver the book to me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not what I ordered
I see no where on my order where it says this is a workbook. I even typed in the ISBN number. I waited almost 2 weeks for this textbook for my son and then we don't even get the correct item! I need the textbook not a workbook. Seriously where does it say this is a workbook? Very disastisfied.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty decent stack of problems
Of course, one can (and should) buy a decent used textbook, which try and explain most of the concepts to you (using algebraic proof derivations, and real-world examples). But textbooks lack something, which is why REA and Schaum's have succeeded as supplements. For example, if you need extra practice on a topic, and your textbook does not give many problems, then Schaum's will have plenty of extra problems for you.But although Schaum's is very thorough, covering every conceivable topic, sub-topic and even rigorous proofs, their solutions are often too succinct, leaving out several steps. This is where REA's Problem Solver comes in.REA solutions are often very long, which is a good sign--it means they are explaining each step!Although athorough understanding of pre-calc algebra and trig is not possible for everyone except the mathematically-inclined, a thorough familiarization and problem-solving skills can be had by:

a) learning the concepts and proofs from textbooks
b) doing as many different problems as possible (textbook + Schaum's)
c) understanding how to do any kind of problem, and understanding the steps (REA)

One commenter said the book does not have much in the way of graphing. However, there are thorough chapters on graphing linear eq's and quadratic eq's as well as conic sections, and plenty of graphs.

This book does not seem to have the Theory of Equations, however, separated as a topic, although it does seem to include some of the root rules in some of the problems. Inverse and Rational functions don't seem to be covered, either. However, these are very small omissions that can be found in your textbook and, considering the scope and depth of this outstanding volume, can be overlooked in regards to total value.

Don't let the old-fashioned courier font put you off; these Problem Solvers are real gems.If you feel weak on understanding how to algebra problems, this will help. In the back are word problems involving coins, investments, work, mixtures, etc.Go to the REA website to see the table of contents.

5-0 out of 5 stars very useful for reference and problem solving technique.
I really like this book. It shows you how to "think" as you are doing the problem and the methodology used to arrive at the problem. I often get textbooks and see the example and it works fine and I can do a problem if its JUST LIKE THAT but then the author gets cute and changes everything about the problem so that it is unrecognizable as the problem you just learned how to solve and then you are stuck again. This problem helps me with stuff like that.

2-0 out of 5 stars despair
after examining this solver ý have come to the conclusion that turkish math solvers for college students are more helpful and comprehensive. Therefore I advise college students of the world to find these books on Turkish on-line booksellers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great, but not complete
This book is great if you want to brush up on algebraic skills and it involves a step by step process for each solution. It is a great solution guide except for one little flaw: it does not contain much graphing. As I am myself in an algebra class, I know that you must be able to graph many different types of equations, and this book doesn't cover graphing thoroughly. Otherwise, it is a great book and i recommend it for anyone who really needs help in algebra.

4-0 out of 5 stars Companion to the educated and teachers
In order to learn your subject more effectively there are a number of ways to go by products: Buy a software tool with questions, answers and a mathematical engine to calculate interactively for you, step by step with additional graphical representation or run a software tool as Maple 6 or Maple 7 ( a CAS ( Computer Algebra System ) ) or buy a problem solver book in addition to your textbook.

Although Maple is an advanced tool that covers almost all you ever need in education its evaluation techniques differs on major points completely from the way you would do (evaluate for educational purposes) mathematics on paper introducing also a number of programmatic structures which is highly complex because of how Maple evaluates. For instance a function specification in Maple is not a function altogether:what you've learn or have learned in school.

Maple is therefore more or less excluded from eduction in college level mathematics and I would say also in higher eduction since it impose to much time to learn properly and is to error prone to use even after extensive reading of the supplied tutorial at the products website.

Therefore a choice between a learning tool or additional book is to prefer.

The problem solver is a powerful tool for learning since it stresses on focusing from several points of views regarding type problems. It also facilitates a repetitive learning experience.

Each chapter is dedicated to a certain subject area. Back in the index is a complete list of keywords with referenced problem numbers after them.

The Question is immidietly followed by an explanatory answer which solves the problem, sometimes in several different ways.

Read the textbook first then do the stuff in the problem solver. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I needed
This solutions manual for the 2nd Edition of Saxon Calculus presents step-by-step solutions to each of the problems in the text.My students and I find it easy to read, with details on each step. The text itself is written in a way that strengthens users algebraic and trigonometric skills - something many Calculus students appreciate (so do their teachers).Well worth the purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Easy Choice
Our children used Saxon from 54 to 87, then moved on to advanced math, calculus and physics and they have excelled with this method. Although my background doesn't include an emphasis in math, my husband's education and professional life is steeped in mathematics. He's enthusiastic about Saxon because it creates a strong foundation in the subject.

Admittedly, solving 30+ problems a lesson can be a challenge, however, this process increases one's speed and accuracy over time and as my daughter said, it helped her "to make peace with math." Math is like learning how to play a musical instrument; it takes practice and self-discipline, but it's well worth the effort. Understanding math, like being proficient at reading and writing, is one of those practical skills that make life so much easier.

Using this incremental method of learning made homeschooling through high school a breeze and our college-age children sailed through their college math courses as well. In hindsight, it would be easy to choose it again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Use only if you want an "unfair" advantage for your students
The bottom line: if you want an "unfair" advantage over other math students, or if you are a teacher who wants your math students to have an "unfair" advantage, use the Saxon advanced math texts.

In essence, Saxon texts teach advanced math as a language. At present, all other serious texts teach advanced math as a formalism, a grammar. Analogously, other advanced math books present examples of the present tense the first week, then examples of nouns the second, etc. By contrast, Saxon texts make you speak sentences using the present tense every day, throughout the year.

The newer Saxon-style "language" instructional paradigm is far more consistent with consensus empirical cognitive research than is the traditional math formalism/grammar model, as well as probably being more consistent with your own intuition and past experience: grammar books may be very good at describing a language, but they are inherently not very good at training you to speak it.

The Saxon calculus text is tough, accurate, and makes profuse use of "classic" problems to teach. It just doesn't look like a grammar book, or even aspire to be one. That is apparently sufficient to bewilder, even repulse, some math educators.

Saxon detractors suspicious of its basic pedagogy are welcome to perform the mountains of painstaking basic research that would be necessary to overturn fundamental tenets in cognitive science, such as the general superiority of "distributed" (Saxon-style) practice over "massed" (traditional-style) practice. The Nobel prizes critics would garner would of course be mere icing on the cake.

But it's actually easy to demolish the fundamental argument of Saxon critics. Once people understand that other serious advanced math texts are really grammar books, Saxon critics have lost, since the average person already knows that grammar books inherently suck.

In a perfect world, all advanced math texts would simply accept the Saxon-style "language" model as obviously the superior pedagogy, and we consumers would benefit as publishers competed to produce the best possible realizations of that inherently superior model. At present, however, especially at the advanced level, the Saxon texts are the only game in town, and fine ones, at that. This gives students and teachers willing to use the Saxon texts an "unfair" advantage over their peers.

Excellent printed introductions on how to teach and learn advanced math in Saxon are available for download from the Saxon website. The most important point can be noted here: in Saxon, you are learning to "speak" math. Every single Saxon problem, in every problem set, exists solely to force you to be as fluent in as many aspects of math as possible at that time. Therefore, you can't skip any problems, or skip around in the book. If you did, you'd either be cheating yourself of opportunities to "speak" at your current highest level, or stretching yourself too thin.

A Saxon year is devoted exclusively to grammar-in-use, to "speaking" math. A point or two of math "grammar" is introduced briefly and quickly each lesson, and understanding is built up not through more explanation but through repeated and gradually more sophisticated use of the concept in problems over the following days, weeks, or even months. Introductory calculus teachers are definitely not accustomed to that way of teaching, and college-level teachers who dared to use a "language"-paradigm introductory calculus text like Saxon might be at special risk for merciless ridicule from colleagues, but something much less philosophical could also be a factor in teacher resistance to the Saxon-style approach.

Grammar books are not pedagogies, so a teacher who uses a grammar book still has to decide how to teach the grammar. Accordingly, many American math teachers are accustomed to a lot of pedagogical control. On a given day, they will pick and choose the specific problems students will do, or skip around in the text, omit or expand the development of topics, drop the textbook completely or use it merely as a "resource," and/or give elaborate lectures and demonstrations. Saxon texts, being an actual pedagogy and not a grammar of "topics," don't allow any of that.

A Saxon teacher's goal is to help every single student "speak" math each day by doing every single problem in the problem set for that day. Period. Since a Saxon text asks teachers, even more than students, to behave very differently in the classroom, a Saxon text should always be adopted voluntarily, never imposed. The unknowing, and especially, the unwilling, would wreak havoc. Learning a "language"-paradigm math text using traditional methods would be like having the football coach teach you violin. You would not enjoy the results.

Of course, there will always be a place for grammar-style math texts -- as reference manuals, once students have solidly learned the grammar-in-use.

I have no connection to the Saxon people, but I have used the Saxon texts with my own children and therefore know them intimately. As I've implied, while the Saxon books are very good, it's improbable that they represent the ultimate realization of the inherently superior "language" model, and I wish there were lots of worthy competitors. However, especially at the advanced level, the Saxon texts currently have no competition. At present, they're the only "language"-paradigm texts available.

It's a free country. If, despite considerable basic science to the contrary, you think that grammar books are swell at teaching languages; or if you believe that a language paradigm is irrelevant to mathematics instruction, since math is a beautiful formalism that only second-rate engineering students would ever deploy as a grammar-in-use; or if you simply enjoy the pedagogical autonomy that traditional introductory calculus texts allow you to exercise, then there are a plethora of math grammars to choose from. For the rest of us, there's Saxon.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Calculus Text I've Ever Seen
I've taught from and worked with a variety of calculus texts over the years, ranging from one-semester "calculus for business majors" to courses for science and math majors. In the course of this, it became clear that there's a fairly standard progression of topics in introductory calculus texts that's been developed and polished over the last century or so. It developed that way because, peadagogically, it's what works best for most students.

One brilliant exception is Tom Apostol's classic two volume set, but it's really designed for people who had calculus in high school already, or otherwise have sufficient mathematical maturity to handle a rigorous theoretical exposition.

Another exception is Saxon/Wang/Harvey. They've certainly come up with a different approach to teaching calculus, but unfortunately they're not Tom Apostol.

What they seem to have done is take the standard approach, slice it up like a loaf of bread, and shuffle it like a deck of cards. The result is a largely unintelligible mishmash of concepts.

For instance, in the standard approach, early on you are introduced to the idea of simple limits. Then you are taught epsilon-delta proofs as a way to handle more complicated limits. Finally, you are given a definition of the derivative as a limit that can be calculated with the epsilon-delta technique. This is both theoretically sound and pedagogically useful.

But Saxon et. al. have a different idea. Instead of presenting these topics in order, one after the other, they jumble the order and spread them out all through the book. So by the time you get to epsilon-delta proofs at the end of the book (instead of early-on like most calculus texts), you're wondering, "Why are we bothering with this?"

Similarly, other concepts that work best when taught one after the other and learned in a short period of time, in Saxon are spread out and interleaved with unrelated material. As another reviewer pointed out, Saxon has lots of review problems, and you'd certainly need them to get anything out of the text, because when you get to a concept and the immediate prerequisite information was last encountered forty or fifty pages before, you better have been doing review problems on it because otherwise you'll be lost.

It might be possible for someone who is an experienced calculus teacher to teach from this book successfully by skipping around and cherry-picking it. But I don't know why they'd bother when there are so many better texts out there.

However, for someone being home-schooled or teaching themselves, who may be making their way through this book on their own or with the guidance of a parent whose calculus may be rusty or nonexistent... this book is a disaster.

1-0 out of 5 stars An inadequate text, at best
I reviewed this text for a friend who has been struggling through it with her son. I spent several hours reading it and studying the organization and pedagogical technique.

The book breaks up important concepts, like limits, that are best left together and studied in sequential order. Its treatment of other concepts, like the definition of the derivative, does not include enough explanatory text. Some key theorems, like the mean value theorem, don't appear soon enough. The book leave epsilon delta proofs until the last lesson.

It is possible, I suppose, for a student to learn to perform Calculus in a mechanical way with this book. But I find it hard to believe that Saxon aids any student to a deeper understanding of the important concepts in Calculus. This kind of understanding is necessary for any student who intends to pursue a career in math, science, or engineering.

My friend is bright and motivated. Her son is bright and talented in mathematics. And they found this book very confusing. I think anyone unfamiliar with calculus should not use this book to homeschool their child.

My advice is to get a good AP or college calculus book, instead. ... Read more

This was the first time I purchased through Amazon. I was thrilled on how great the condition of the book was and how fast it arrived. I have always been wary of buying used books on-line because you really never know what your getting. This has alleviated my mind. I plan on looking for more soon.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst math book I've had
I absolutely hate this book.I have never in my life worked with such a terrible math book.Normally, you can go through a math book and look at examples and eventually figure out how to do something you were having a hard time understanding, but THIS book doesn't explain ANYTHING.
The examples are horrendous, and the author constantly throws in little changes to problems without giving any explanation as to how you cope with these changes. The examples tend to skip entire explanations so you are left with a problem that lacks very important parts that would help you understand why they did what they did.
I am so frusterated with this book, and have absolutely no clue why ANY instructor would use it.If you're looking for thoughtful and thorough explanations for anything having to do with trigonometry, this is certainly not the book for you.F-.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's ok.
The book is okay, not really great or bad. Just that it contains too many practice problems that do not derive from concrete examples because either the examples aren't plentiful enough or there is none of them. I hate those warm-up questions because there is usually no background information first. I especially liked the inclusion of harmonic analysis where I could learn how to construct equations from graphs, and intuitively it's either a sum or a product of two sinusoids. Problem? When I got to the practice problems, the author threw a curveball and I was totally lost from there. This isn't the only example since it happens specifically all over the book. I love how the author did in section 9-1. I am introduced to probability, and he gives one measly picture of pair of rolled dice. Then he points out one simple example. Then I am quickly instructed to do the problems. How about more examples? Maybe 3...or 4...? That's nothing new also. To be honest with you, I have a degree in mathematics, but this book, I consider it to be too challenging for high school students especially when the title of the book deals with "Pre-Calculus." There are better books that is deemed user-friendly although Foerster's looks like one, but when in practice, is not. Avoid this book, and hopefully Foerster improves this book before he throws in a newer edition of the book to satisfy his and his fellow authors' greed. Lastly, make sure that math is fun, not a chore. *winks* *winks* ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars No problem.
Book was the same as that being sold in the campus bookstore and for less money. Access code for online work site worked fine. We had trouble with another access code, for another book, and Amazon customer service was wonderful. I highly recommend an Amazon purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Detailed!
I bought this book for my university classes and it has been great so far.

Recomended for the people that need to review algebra and go on into the more difficult math.
The only problem is the length of the book. Learning the content in it can be slow but sure to last.

1-0 out of 5 stars Textbook industry: Use 1/3 of book, Respend money for same darn thing
First, I wouldn't say Blitzer's books are as great as hyped...a decent portion of explanation was wordy, convoluted and confusing. I mostly stopped reading the book and only took notes of the teacher's explanations.

I have to disagree about exercise difficulty. Each chapter or section started with easier exercises which increased in difficulty. However, in the 2nd Edition there were quite a few errors in the answers to odd-numbered problems in the back of the book, so if you couldn't arrive at the same answer you wondered if you were really wrong or not! Had to wait until the next class to find out...bad!

My HUGE GRIPE is our college makes a big deal of all teachers (with the exception of ever-changing technology/computer texts) using the same book...but WHAT'S THE POINT? Each book is designed to cover several courses so the textbook publishers can rake in BIG MONEY for their thick book. The next year, they add some different charts and change some problems so you can't get by on your old edition if the college goes to the next one...which the college ALWAYS does, for no benefit...regardless of the errors you must put up with, that are undoubtedly a result of the pressure to constantly "upgrade" the book.

So, you buy a book that is SUPPOSED to cover at least 2 courses, you use less than half of it, then when you take the 2nd course, you have to RE-BUY IT!

In addition, they now market books with CDs using the publisher's own online-course website instead of the schools...which you cannot access unless you buy the new-edition book with THEIR CD. The stupid college uses the publisher's online-course website even if the college's own online-course website is perfectly fine.

So now I have to buy this stupid 3rd edition in addition to my 2nd edition, and I have to get the one with the CD. This is just the publisher's way of forcibly preventing people from recycling textbooks. If I am not allowed into the publisher's course website with a used CD, I am withdrawing from this college and transferring! I'm only at this college to take some courses required to transfer to a top college, anyway. I will GLADLY take them somewhere else!

College deans pay attention...YOU DO NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO DEMAND COLLEGE STUDENTS WASTE THEIR HARD-EARNED MONEY MAKING TEXTBOOK MANUFACTURERS RICH...USE YOUR OWNED DARNED WEBSITES FOR ONLINE COURSES!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!
This book teaches a real understanding of the concepts, not just memorization or how to enter the data into a calculator.I am returning to college after a 27ish year hiatus, and needless to say, needed some brushing up.

The first text that I attempted to use was given to me by a co-worker and omitted much of the understanding needed to progress.

We, as a nation, need to LEARN again, not memorize, and this book actually teaches!

Bravo!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Math Textbook
I used this book for an accelerated Algebra/Trig class at the college level.I found this book to be one the best math books I have ever encountered. When examples are given in the text it goes step by step and for most, explanations of what is being done.Other texts that I've used have skipped steps and left you wondering how did they get from A to Z?

I wasn't always able to make it to class, but the examples and explanations did not loose me and I was able to play catch up successfully on my own with this text.I can't say that about any other math text.

I must agree with the other person who wrote a review and said it would sure be nice if Blitzer had a Calculus text (though Larson is a good Calc author).Calculus would have been a breeze with a Blitzer book instead of a stuggle (had to buy a Larson book to supplement by school's Calc book choice). ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid at all cost!

The text only introduces the basics of a concept before introducing much more complicated problems in the chapter practices. Very little detailed information to help understand concepts. I had to use other texts and online resources to supplement this POS testbook.

1-0 out of 5 stars A really bad math book
Precalculus is hard enough without having to use a book like this. I thought that the prose was unreadable, the graphics confusing, and many of the exercises supercomplicated (our professor thought so too). In my opinion *Algebra and Trignometry* is a triumph of marketing over pedagogical competence. My advice? Not only should you not buy this book; you should avoid a class in which it is assigned.

1-0 out of 5 stars Awful!
I teach a high school class for advanced mathematics in preparation for college maths, and I honestly have to say that this is the worst book from which to teach.Yes, I can understand it perfectly, but a student will be lost the moment he or she lays eyes on the first page. The only good thing about this book is the number of exercises it has in each section.

1-0 out of 5 stars For mathematicians, by mathmematicians
Frankly, I found this text way too brief in its coverage of topics prior to being bombarded with questions. There isn't much good to say about this book other than providing lots of problems to work. Save yourself the money and buy a "10000 problem" text instead.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid math textbook
I'm a little torn on what to say about this book. On one hand, I have a huge amount of respect for this book. On the other hand, it's not an easy book to learn from.

I have no doubt that if people work through this book, they will be very knowledgable and skilled in the areas covered. It is, however, a slow, tedious, sometimes frustrating process. The authors are clearly proficient at math, but their style is pretty dry. It's a "just the facts, ma'am" approach to instruction. It would be nice to have perspective, interpretation, and helpful guidance in addition to straight math. It's kind of like reading a technical manual.I prefer a more engaging presentation. ... Product Description
This new title in the Homework Helpers series tackles the one of the most advanced mathematical course in most high schools: Trigonometry. The concepts are explained in everyday language before the examples are worked. Good habits, such as checking your answers after every problem, are reinforced. There are practice problems throughout the book, and the answers to all of the practice problems are included. The problems are solved clearly and systematically, with step-by-step instructions provided.

Particular attention is placed on topics that students traditionally struggle with the most. While this book could be used to supplement a standard calculus textbook, it could also be used by college students or adult learners to refresh long-forgotten concepts and skills.

Trigonometry includes concepts that have both a geometric and an algebraic component. Homework Helpers: Trigonometry covers all of the topics in a typical Trigonometry class, including:

• The unit circle• Trigonometric functions• Inverse trigonometric functions• Identities• Graphical analysis• Applications

This book also contains a review of the algebraic and geometric ideas that are the foundation of trigonometry. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars good book for what its worth
The book is very straight forward and simple. I tried learning trigonometry from other sources but found it to difficult to grasp, but this book shows the basics and makes it math understandable to the average person.
I would recommend it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Trigonometry Mystified
If you want trigonometry to seem obscure and impenetrable, you should try this book.
I had exposure to trigonometry before, and this book starts off, on the first page, presenting circular graphics and how trigonometric functions fit within them. This is something the author should have reached after introducing triangle types, defining sin, cosine and tangents, and the different basic formulas. Then we could understand how the circular graphics presentation is the next logical step in using trigonometry. But no, he starts off with this, with no explanation as to why or how he got there.Keep in mind this book is supposed to be an introductory book, that DEMYSTIFIES trigonometry.I was angry I spent the money on it without sitting down and really going through it first. The other reviewers are correct that he presents a lot of problems to solve without explanation of how they are derived or how to solve them.

This author has written better books than this, such as on Electronics.I don't understand how he could have forgotten who his audience was that he was writing for, beginning math students who are confused by trigonometry. This book does nothing to demystify (or even explain) trigonometry. In fact, your college textbook is a better start, because at least it lays out the concepts one at a time, in order, before proceeding to more complex concepts, unlike this one.I don't think his editor did his job on this book, putting it in order.
This review is actually mild compared to the frustration I felt in trying to get some value on the money I spent for this book.Don't judge a book by its cover; or its title.

5-0 out of 5 stars Contrarian View
This book was my "aha!" experience for trigonometry. The author started off using circle functions instead of triangle relationships as a way to explain sine, cosine, etc. This made immediate sense to me; from there, it was easy to understand why each is positive or negative in the various quadrants, why sin^2 + cos^2=1, etc.Why all trig courses aren't taught this way is a mystery.
No doubt there are some shortcomings to this book. However, if you want to quickly develop a strong intuitive understanding of trigonometry, this is an excellent purchase.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst math author ever.
This individual,Stan Gibilisco, continues to write book after book despite his inability to write a math book.

The first book of his that I purchased, Technical Math, was so badly written that it was totally useless.I swore that I would never buy another book by this author.

I evidently forgot his name until I purchased this book. However after starting the first chapter and not believing a math book could be so badly written, his name hit me.

This time fortunately I was able to return the book.

Evidently publishers do not read readers reviews.Or maybe they don't care because some poor sap, that is not familiar with the author, will purchase his book.If they did care, they wouldn't hire him for another book.
Some of the subjects sound really interesing until you see who the auther is and then you know to forget it....

2-0 out of 5 stars Too much missing
Like another reveiwer, I also was very pleased with the Algebra Demystified book.As a long-time math disaster, I was able to test out of remedial Math and start College Algebra with a good foundation as a direct result of Albegra Demystified. After taking College Algebra, I returned to the Demystified Series to ramp me up on Trigonometry.I found that the author simply fails to explain his steps adequately. He makes too many assumptions about knowledge the student will possess. In fact, fresh out of College Algebra with a respectable high B, I was non-plussed after the earliest pages of Trigonometry Demystified, and actually found myself referring to my Algebra/Trigonometry textbook from college to clarify topics. ... The authors gave good examples for each type of problem for each section. There are 100 plus review questions for each section. The answers to every single odd numbered question in the back of the book.
Diagrams included are extremely helpful. Definitions and important theorems stand out because they are placed in blue boxes. My only complaints are that some examples don't exactly walk through the entire problem and that the wording of some definitions are verbose. ... Read more
