Lundberg, member of Riverside Methodist Church, became the first teacher and later became a superintendent. Land on Joliet Avenue in Lyons was donated for a Sunday School building and a building was constructed where Lyons' Fire Station now stands. A Mr. Evans was first superintendent of the Sunday School, which later became known as Bethel Chapel. Between 1921-1931, the Sunday School met regularly and a worship service was held until 1937 when Bethel Chapel lost its building. During the 1930s and 40s others were superintendent, including Gil Larimer. Prominent among these leaders was John R. Robinson, who served the Sunday School from 1921 until his death in 1961.

Midland Evangelical Free Church and Swedish immigrants formed a fellowship of churches in Iowa which eventuallymerged in 1950 becoming known as the evangelical free church of america. http://www.mefchurch.org/About/ourhistory.html
Extractions: Our History Midland Evangelical Free Church had its inception in December of 1983. Six adults from Midland, who were commuting to services at the Bay City Evangelical Free Church, met in a Midland home for Bible study. They began to consider the possibility of planting a church in Midland. In January of 1984, several others joined them for a regular Sunday evening Bible study. The group began laying a biblical foundation for the purpose of the church, and the qualities that they desired to see in a church. The purpose was defined as: To bring praise, honor and glory to God by allowing Jesus Christ to build His church. On July 7, 1985, our first public worship service was held at what is now the Midland Ramada Inn Conference Center, with about 30 present. Our original name was Living Hope Evangelical Free Church, but for simplicity, it was subsequently changed to Midland Evangelical Free Church. In December 1988, we purchased a vintage 1900's church building, school, and parsonage campus on the corner of Gordon and Grove Streets. In 1993, we purchased our current property, and began the task of building. The move to this new facility took place in August 1996.

Extractions: Evangelical Free The Statement of Faith of The Evangelical Free Church of America The doctrinal position of the Evangelical Free Church of America is summarized in our twelve-article Statement of Faith. 2. In one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. 3. That Jesus is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Ghost and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross a sacrifice for our sins, according to the Scriptures. Further, He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where at the right hand of the Majesty on High, He now is our High Priest and Advocate. 4. That the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, and during this age to convict men, regenerate the believing sinner, indwell, guide, instruct, and empower the believer for godly living and service. 5. That man was created in the image of God but fell into sin and is therefore lost and only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained. 6. That the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe, and only such as receive Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit, and thus become children of God.
