    Extractions: Lansing Central Free Methodist Church has a rich history that had its beginning in cottage prayer meetings begun in Lansing in 1870 by a Dr. Johnson as a result of attending a Free Methodist camp meeting in Ionia. Those prayer meetings didn't develop into a full church at that time. Over the next 30 + years, several attempts were made by many people to raise up a Free Methodist church to reach out to the city of Lansing, but for various reasons they did not come to fruition. God's perfect timing came in 1908 when a small society of 5 people was formed to meet in a small building in North Lansing. Eleven years and three moves later, in 1919, the church had grown to such and extent that the society began plans to build its own church building. God continued to bless the church and in 1937 the name was changed from "First Free Methodist Church of Lansing" to "Lansing Central Free Methodist" because during those years it had parented three other churches in the Lansing area. In 1951, construction of a new church building was begun at the location where the church now stands. Since that

Mannoia, Free Methodist Church of North America Recently I received a request to communicate my position on the issue of homosexuality. My first reaction was to merely respond with a quick "It’s sin." On further thought, however, I realized the need to communicate a bit more broadly inasmuch as our entire culture and future is being confronted with more and more related circumstances. An over simplified answer would only serve to sideline our potential influence and validate the simplistic and fundamentalistic posture the world seems to ascribe to evangelicals on such issues. We are not fundamentalistic, and we certainly are not simplistic as Wesleyan, thinking and integrated people who are "on the way of holiness." Recently I heard a news report that the residents of Caymen Island refused to allow the passengers of a "gay cruise" to disembark on their island. Apparently a previous "gay cruise" had stopped there and the passengers spread into the tourist community. Their blatant demonstrations of physical contact so infuriated the local people that they now refuse to allow any such groups to leave their ships. This "in your face" attitude comes from deeply troubled souls and is reminiscent of actions of the Disney leadership on the same agenda. This is an issue that continues to confront us.
