She established "Angelus Temple," two radio stations, and a Bible training school called "Lighthouse of International Foursquare Evangelism" (L.I.F.E.) in Los Angeles, California.(2) L.I.F.E. Bible College was established in the early 1900's. The Foursquare movement also set up Mt. Vernon Bible College.(3) In 1927, the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel was established.(2) It sees its method of operation as fourfold: evangelization, discipleship, church-planting, and renewal (having a part in the renewal of the Christian church).(2) This church says that its members have the power "to heal the sick, free the demon-possessed, mend the lame, cause the blind to see, and raise the dead" by the Holy Spirit.(5) Foursquare Missions International is a denominational sending agency of the Pentecostal tradition. It is engaged in church planting, theological education, literature production, and training.(1,11) It works in 56 countries and has 1,245,000 adherents worldwide.(4) In Central America, it began its operations in Costa Rica in 1953 and Guatemala in 1955. Funding: Foursquare Missions International is supported by gifts from its own churches and interested persons.(1) In 1985, the income of Foursquare Missions International was $4,124,490: 91.5 percent came from church contributions; 64.7 percent was spent on international missions; 4.7 percent was spent on international relief efforts.(4) Its 1986 income was $4,132,738.(6) More recently, its income was given at $4,755,732, of which $4.3 million was for overseas ministries.(11) Activities: The establishment of "Indigenous Churches" is one of the central strategies of Foursquare Missions.(3) Indigenous churches are those which are self-supporting, self-governing and self- propagating.(1,2,3) Personal evangelism, crusades and church- planting are among the most important activities being promoted by the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel.(2,3,4) They also provide emergency relief and medical personnel.(2,3) Since 1980, Foursquare Gospel has been working intensively among the "Hidden People," i.e. "those separated from Christian Outreach by barriers of languages, culture, localization, social, economic, and geographical barriers."(2) The church considers "Hidden People" to be the "last frontier of human isolation."(2) El Salvador: The church sent medical personnel to a clinic in El Salvador.(1) Honduras: The Foursquare Gospel established its fourth mission in Honduras in 1952. By 1987, it had over 90 churches, two orphanages, and an associated Bible Institute which trained lay pastors for mission work. In addition, the church distributes food, clothes, and vitamins.(7) They also work among Indian communities such as the Miskitos and the Payas.(2) Guatemala: The International Church of the Foursquare Gospel began work in Guatemala in 1955.(1,2) They are working there among the Indian communities of Cakchquel, Kekchi, Quiche, Mam, Pocomchi, Pocomam, and Pocomam-Maya.(3,4) Their church in Guatemala, Iglesia del Evangelio Cuadrangular de Guatemala, is on the decline because of a reported split within the denomination.(9) Brazil: They reported 6,566 organized churches in Brazil with 7,200 local pastors.
