We also define authoritarian as any person or ideology that assumes they know what's best for others. Under these definitions, many of the social structures of the world are authoritarian. The very nature of being unchallengeable and of wanting an authority to tell you what is right for you, or what to do, is a deep part of how the world works. In a static world, where change is either slow or not valued at all, as it has been throughout much of human history, authoritarianism although it has caused human suffering has also been the fast way to get things done. However, we now live in a world of accelerated change. It is our thesis that in order to properly problem solve in a time of accelerated change it is essential to be sensistive and take into account the nature of the changes that are taking place around you. Authoritarianism by its nature and structure is a filtering device that keeps new information out because it is predicated on maintaining the power that has come through tradition. It is our point that as a species we no longer have the luxury to do that. So I would say authoritarianism itself as a mode of information transference is essentially unhealthy for these times.

In Matthew 18:15-18, Jesus outlines three steps to take in talking to your brother, in attempting to settle difficulties or to right the wrong. If the three steps prove unfruitful, he says, "Let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax-gatherer." Math. 18:17b In Paul's correspondence with the Corinthians, he had heard of a fellow Christian who was cohabiting with his stepmother, and he wrote the Corinthians and told them not to associate "with any so-called brother if he should be an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindlernot to even eat with such a one..." (1 Cor. 5:11) Similar counsel was given regarding unruly ones in the church, who would not respond to initial counseling (2 Thes. 3:14,15). But in the case of the Corinthians, both the church and the individual failed to respond, and so Paul wrote them and said, "Remove the wicked man from among yourselves." The purpose of disfellowshiping is (1) to cause the repentance of the errant Christian; (2) to remove a stumbling stone from the church, so that others would not be infected (1 Cor. 5:6,7); (3) to instill the others with fear of God's judgment for pursuing a wrong course, and (4) to keep the church free from a marred reputation with the world (Rom. 2:23,24). If the errant brother was to seek forgiveness and display heartfelt repentance for his actions and attitude, he was to be forgiven and accepted back into the church. Thus he would not be overly abused by Satan, whose authority he had temporarily come under by being cast out into the world (2 Cor. 2:10,11).

At silentlambs we realize that it takes great courage to speak out on abuse. Instead of punishing those that do we are creating a "hall of fame" for those who are so brave. After all, how often do you have someone come to your home and want to talk about the Bible? JW's so desperately need to hear the gospel. This article offers a step-by-step strategy for the Christian to effectively witness to JW's. The Goal It can be surprisingly easy to get JW's to re-examine their beliefs. There are numerous flaws in their theology. But it is important to understand where they are coming from. They claim to spend hours each week studying "the Bible", but 85% of their time is spent studying what their Watchtower organization says about the Bible , and not the Bible itself. So a prepared Christian can use Scripture to point out the weaknesses in Watchtower theology. The Watchtower organization is truly a mind-control organization. They maintain control of their people by various means. One way is to firmly forbid them from looking at any theological literature except Watchtower publications. (Non-Watchtower materials are called "apostate literature.") It is forbidden to challenge the Watchtower organization in any way. So it is considered wrong to even ask challenging questions at JW meetings, or to even think thoughts contrary to their teachings! If you are guilty of bucking the system, you can be "disfellowshipped." If that happens, even your family will no longer speak to you!
