    Extractions: As with most modern pentecostal organizations, the PA of W's scriptural roots can be traced to the New Testament "Day of Pentecost" in 33 A.D (Acts of the Apostles, Chapter 2). Its modern day roots are connected to a religious revival of this biblical revelation that began in the United States in the late 1800s. This revival expanded into a full-fledged movement in 1906 at Los Angeles' Azusa Street Mission, with a meeting led by William Seymour. As an outgrowth of the Asuza Street movement, a fellowship of "pentecostal assemblies" met in October 1907 in Los Angeles, and followed-up with similar meetings in subsequent years. This fellowship became known as the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. J.J. Frazee (the PA of W's first General Superintendent) and G.T. Haywood participated in these meetings.

Hall When The Assemblies of God adopted the doctrine of the trinity at its Fourth General Council in October 1916, the Oneness Pentecostals were forced to withdraw from the organization. Two months later, in late December and early January, Oneness ministers met in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and on January 2, 1917, they formed a Oneness Pentecostal organization, called The General Assembly of the Apostolic Assemblies. In late 1917 or early 1918 The General Assemblies of the Apostolic Assemblies merged with The Pentecostal Assemblies of the World and then held its first meeting in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, later in the same year. This interracial organization, which adopted the name of The Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, was the only Oneness Pentecostal organization until late 1924, when a separation occurred mainly along racial lines. During 1925 three new organizations were formed: The Apostolic Churches of Jesus Christ, The Pentecostal Ministerial Alliance, and Emmanuel's Church in Jesus Christ. This organizational division among Oneness people was not desired, however, and in 1927 the first step was taken toward bringing them back together. Meeting in a joint convention in Guthrie, Oklahoma, Emmanuel's Church in Jesus Christ and The Apostolic Churches of Jesus Christ merged under the name The Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ. This merger, which united about 400 ministers, was consummated at the next General Convention held in Port Arthur, Texas, in October 1928.

Freeman Mack Thomas of Penn Hills, the senior bishop of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, was all those things and more. Bishop Thomas, the pastor of the Greater Bethlehem Temple Church in Larimer, helped to found eight Pentecostal churches in Western and Central Pennsylvania. "He was a strong Christian religious leader," said John E. Hampton of Indianapolis, administrator of the 2.5 million-member Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. "He was an outstanding preacher, a man who was well-liked and well-respected. "He was a stabilizing force in the church, someone who always could be counted on to help out," Hampton said. "He served his church in a number of positions and he served it well." Bishop Thomas, who rose from humble beginnings to his church's second-highest position, died Dec. 16 of age-related illnesses at Forbes Regional Hospital Monroeville. He was 92. "He was a great man, a man of his people," said funeral director William White of the White Memorial Chapel of Point Breeze.
