The reconstructionist movement, who's original purpose was to "reconstruct" Judiasm to entice the fifty percent of non-affiliated Jews in 1930's Ameica to return to Judiasm. The founder of the reconstructionist movement, Mordecai M. Kaplan, launched the movement in the in the 1920's with the creation of a reconstructionist magazine and his book, Judiasm as a Civilization: Toward a Reconstruction of American Jewish Life . His beliefs endorsed traditional Jewish customs and practices, but the reasoning changed from the Lord's creation to Sancta , a concept that rituals are made holy due to the unity and community of the people preformiong them, as opposed to the traditional Jewish view that customs are obligated due to God's command. Reconstructionist Judiasm thereby dismisses the concept of an all-powerful God as a creator, and beleives that God is a force or presence that maintains the Jewish People.
